They hit him in the face and snatched his mobile phone. When he resisted their move, they damaged his bike. Sandeep, owner of Sunny Chicken Corner, said: “I was at a wedding. At midnight, my employee, Mann Singh, came to return the keys. While he was returning home, three robbers on a bike accosted him. They beat him up and snatched his mobile phone. His wife informed me about the incident this morning.” The victim, Mann Singh, said when he was returning home, three suspects followed him from a distance. He tried to escape from the place but they surrounded him. They punched him in the face, breaking his tooth. The miscreants beat him to the ground, searched him and took out the mobile phone from his pocket. He also pleaded to the miscreants to leave him but they refused to listen. When he resisted, the suspects also broke his bike. Their motorcycle was not bearing the number plate. ASI Purushottam Lal said the suspects would be apprehended with the help of CCTV camera footage. — TNS Wrong parking, helmetless driving invite max challans City police collect ~5.85 crore in fines between Jan 1 & Oct 31 Nikhil Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Ludhiana, December 1 The traffic police have collected a whopping sum of Rs 5.85 crore by issuing 2.14 lakh challans in 10 months from January 1 to October 31 this year. Of the total challans, maximum were issued against wrong parking and driving without helmets. As per the data procured from the city traffic police, of 2.14 lakh challans issued in six months, the maximum number of 41,241 challans were against wrong parking followed by 33,056 for helmetless driving, 26,398 for overspeeding, 10,589 for driving without seat belt, 8,872 for triple riding, 7,010 for rash driving, 4,887 for using black film, 5,952 for jumping red light, 808 for using pressure horn and 236 for underage driving. Nowadays, the traffic police have deployed speed radars at strategic places on highways to capture overspeeding violation. Suspects involved in marriage palace firing flaunted political links on social media Nikhil Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Ludhiana, December 1 The suspects involved in the shooting incident on Saturday inside the Bath Castle marriage palace that cost the lives of two innocents, had been enjoying political patronage for a long time. They could be seen posing with senior leaders of political parties and prominent personalities of Ludhiana and boastfully used to post videos and photos on social media to show their influence in political circles. Though after the incident some politicians released statements and condemned the alleged political support being given to notorious elements by any leader, the suspects were frequently seen with the same personalities in the past. Even in events such as sports tournaments, others functions organised by these elements, politicians and city’s prominent personalities are seen. Following the incident, some people have also raised questions on social media that if politicians or other prominent personalities, who were giving support to the suspects, would face legal action or not. They, without naming the politicians, said they had been ensuring surrender of notorious elements before the police. People also asked the politicians that had their own relatives faced bullets in the shooting at the wedding, would they continue to shelter such notorious elements. Questions are being raised that how gangster Shubham Mota, who is already facing several criminal cases, including attempt to murder, and other notorious elements, who also have a crim- inal background, managed to own illegal weapons. Meanwhile, the police had also registered a case against four persons, Bhushan Kumar of Harbanspura, Ajay Kumar Chhabra of Chawni Mohalla, Chotu Ram of Noorwala road and Bhagwant Singh of Latana village, Jodhan, on the charges of giving shelter to Ankur, Jasvir, Shubham Mota, JK Dawar, Jasvir Singh, Rubal Pardhan and several other unidentified suspects. The four suspects were also arrested by the police. It captured shots being fired one after another and showed how guests were running for their safety. Man gets 5-yr RI in mobile snatching case Ludhiana, December 1 The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Harvinder Singh has sentenced Gurdev Singh, a resident of Bhangia Kalan, to five years’ RI in a mobile snatching case. A fine of Rs 11,000 was also imposed on the accused. The court held that the prosecution has successfully proved charges against the accused. In view of rising incidents of snatching the accused did not deserve any leniency, observed the court while declining the plea of leniency raised by the accused. As per the complaint filed by Manpreet Kaur of Jodhan village, she was going from Krishna Nagar towards Aarti Chowk on September 29, 2020, when two youths on a bike snatched her mobile. In December 2020, the police got information that they were arrested by CIA staff in another case. Later, the woman identified them. During trial, the second accused, Anuj, failed to appear, leading the court to declare him a proclaimed offender. — OC
