A special investigation team of the police arrested the professor following what cops described as ‘fresh and credible evidence’ linking him to the murder. Prof Goyal, who teaches at the University of Business School, was produced in a local court, which sent him to three-day police remand. According to the police, Prof Goyal’s arrest follows results from a forensic psychological assessment, brainmapping tests and the accumulation of substantial technical and circumstantial evidence gathered over the past four years. Seema was Prof Goyal’s second wife and a homemaker. Later, he discovered his wife lying motionless. Over the years, the victim’s family persistently alleged that the couple’s interfaith marriage had led to tension within the household. The strike call was given by the outsourced employees of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and Chandigarh City Bus Service Society. To cope with the situation, some employees operating interstate buses were deputed on the city buses. Officials said no Tricity route was affected due to the strike. The Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) was invoked as it was already envisioned that the employees may go on strike. Continued on page 3 To also recover dues of biz activity at club Dushyant Singh Pundir Tribune News Service Chandigarh, December 8 After carrying out a demolition drive on November 25, the UT Administration is mulling over imposing a penalty on the Chandigarh Club and recovering dues for carrying out commercial activities. According to officials, six acres were allotted to the club on a leasehold basis, but it encroached upon five acres of government land and gave it to M/s Commando Caterers Pvt Ltd. The officials said the caterer was carrying out commercial activities on the land encroached upon by the club for the past nearly two decades. Apart from recovering the dues, penalty would also be imposed on the club, the officials said, and added that the department concerned had been asked to calculate the amount. During the demolition drive, several illegal structures, including a kitchen and a toilet constructed beyond the zoning line and extension of the building on the right side and a passage to the kitchen, were removed. Following a petition filed by M/s Commando Caterers against the demolition of the alleged unauthorised construction by the UT Administration, Continued on page 3 Man, daughter die as truck hits bike Mohali, December 8 A father-daughter duo died after the bike they were riding was hit by a speeding truck at the Chhat light point on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway today. The deceased were identified as Ramesh Chand, 40, and Sumita, 24, an MBA student, both residents of Vasant Vihar in Dera Bassi. Complainant Chamel Singh, a resident of Ram Darbar, stated that the man was going to drop his daughter at a private college in Banur when a speeding UPregistered truck hit their bike from behind while they were taking a turn towards Banur village at Chhat light point — a designated black spot with fatal mishaps taking place frequently. After the incident, the truck driver fled the spot. The injured victims were rushed to the Dera Bassi subdivisional hospital where they were declared dead. In another road mishap, Sanoli resident Ramsharan (25) died after the bike he was riding hit an electricity pole in Dhakoli.
