CHANDIGARH | MONDAY | 22 DECEMBER 2025 brides HOT eat RAGI-RICH DOSA K ARNATAKA Open Dosa is the hot selling dish at Jhumroo, Phase 3A Mohali. No wonder that Millet Chef Vikas Chawla’s mostin-demand dish has millet for its star! Karnataka Open Dosa combines regional authenticity with modern creativity. The dosa is made with 100 per cent soaked organic ragi grain, which gives it a healthy, hearty base. Ragi is soaked for 10-12 hours and then left to ferment for 8-10 hours for making dosa batter. Unlike the typical ragi dosas that blend blends ragi and rice, this one sticks to millet totally. Served with a touch of turmeric and gunpowder, it’s garnished with a dollop of butter. Chef Chawla’s version takes inspiration from Karnataka’s cuisine but offers a modern spin that’s both flavourful and nutritious. amritsar play REVIVING BAITHAKS R chandigarh EVIVING the baithak culture in Amritsar, Timeless Amritsar hosted Sitar Maestro (Dr) Sumit Padam for an evening of classical music and ragas. Brar, a social scientist by training, is Professor Emeritus at Panjab University. While he took to photography about twenty years ago, the present book, titled Time and Transience, contains over a hundred pictures taken mostly in the last ten years. His pictures always feel like visual poetry. At the same time, pictures included in the book are like philosophical reflections on passage of time, beauty and fragility of life. The book was released by two artistes of the city, theatre director/producer Neelam Mansingh Chowdhry and art photographer Diwan Manna. chose themselves Gurnaaz Y EAR 2025 wasn’t the year of the ‘perfect bride’. It was the year of the ‘personal bride’— unapologetic, emotionally led and completely uninterested in playing dress-up in traditions that didn’t feel like her own. 2025 OO G PHOTO COURTESY: GRAIN BY ELGIN, AMRITSAR mohali The year THIS SHIFT ISN’T SUBTLE. IT’S GENERATIONAL “Gen Z couples are rewriting the language of weddings,” says Gaurav Gupta, whose Quantum Entanglement collection has been designed for a generation unwilling to perform roles written for them. “They’re less bound by conventions and more interested in creating moments that feel personal and authentic.” HERITAGE, BUT EDITED The year’s most powerful trend wasn’t a silhouette or colour, it was restraint. The Indian bride’s relationship with opulence evolved into one where craftsmanship mattered more than spectacle. “We wanted to honour the cultural resonance of rani pink,” notes Elie Saab. FOR JJ VALAYA, HERITAGE ISN’T OLD, IT’S ALIVE “We will always respect where we come from, but we will always be relevant to the present,” he says. To him, tradition is storytelling, not something a modern bride must escape. WEDDINGS AS THEATRE, COUTURE AS CHARACTER If weddings in the 2000s were emotional family films, and 2010–2020 weddings were blockbusters, then 2025 weddings became E WHAT’S Crash scare Life Prime Video has unveiled the teaser for Young Sherlock, an eightpart reimagining of Sherlock Holmes starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Their standout moment? A gown with a metal Taj Mahal-inspired bustier; bridalwear as architecture, not just embellishment. QUIET REBELLION AND SOFT MODERNITY Unlike earlier decades where rebellion was loud, 2025 favoured subtle defiance. “Brides are choosing tailored jackets instead of traditional blouses,” shares Ritika Mirchandani. “The new rebellion is subtle, making quiet but intentional choices that reflect personality.” COUTURE THAT LIVES BEYOND THE WEDDING The biggest behavioural shift was philosophical. The end of single-use couture. “Brides are gravitating toward separates and pieces that can be restyled and reworn,” says Abhishek Agarwal of Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio. For Shyamal & Bhumika, this marks a cultural correction. “Fashion is shifting from ephemeral spectacle to functional luxury,” they say. HEIRLOOMS RETURN BUT WITH AGENCY As 2025 wraps up, the Indian bride isn’t seeking permission anymore, she’s designing her own rules, her own symbols, her own legacy. Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan UK pre-sales take off Jana Nayagan, starring Tamil cinema icon Thalapathy Vijay, has made a powerful early impact overseas, with UK pre-sales opening to a record-breaking response. Over 12,700 tickets were sold within the first 24 hours. The numbers signal strong international anticipation for the film, with the United Kingdom emerging as a key territory. The rapid pace of bookings across multiple locations reflects not only excitement for a new release, but also the emotional weight attached to the project. Industry observers say the scale and speed of the advance bookings place Jana Nayagan among the fastestmoving Tamil film pre-sales in the UK. The surge in demand has been fuelled by growing buzz around the film’s larger-than-life presentation, its visuals and music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, all of which have steadily amplified expectations in the lead-up to release. With pre-sales continuing to build across other international markets, the UK performance serves as an early benchmark for what could shape up to be a historic theatrical run. If the opening 24 hours are any indication, Jana Nayagan appears poised for a massive global opening that could challenge existing records. Produced by Venkat K. Narayana under KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. The film holds particular significance as the grand finale of Thalapathy Vijay’s illustrious film career. c m y b 2025 re-defined the concept of the ‘perfect bride’ Kiara steps into Toxic The makers of Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, one of the most anticipated films of 2026, have unveiled the first look of Kiara Advani as Nadia, adding fresh momentum to Yash’s return to the big screen. The role marks a shift in Kiara’s filmography as she steps into the raw, stylised world crafted by director Geetu Mohandas. The first-look poster presents Kiara in a glamorous frame set against a vivid circus backdrop. Yet, beyond the spectacle lies a character marked by grief and emotional depth. The imagery hints at a performance-driven narrative, suggesting Nadia is far from a conventional role and could signal a transformative milestone in Kiara’s career.
