PTI X admits to lapses, blocks 3,500 posts, deletes over 600 accounts Action follows govt notice over obscene content generation Tribune News Service New Delhi, January 11 After the Centre raised concerns over the alleged misuse of X’s artificial intelligence tool, Grok, for generating and circulating obscene, sexually explicit and derogatory content, the company admitted to lapses and blocked around 3,500 posts, besides deleting more than 600 accounts as part of its corrective measures, government sources said. According to sources, the microblogging platform has also stated that it will not permit obscene imagery on its platform. Notably, on January 2, the government issued a notice to X, citing serious lapses in statutory due diligence under the Information Technology Act and the related IT Rules. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in the notice, raised concerns over the alleged misuse of Grok for generating and circulating obscene, sexually explicit and deroga- tory content, particularly targeting women and children. According to the ministry, such content constitutes a grave violation of dignity, privacy and digital safety, and is in clear contravention of India’s cyber and child protection laws. MeitY directed X to conduct an immediate review of Grok’s technical architecture and governance mechanisms to prevent further misuse. The platform was instructed to remove all unlawful content without delay, take continued on page 8 New Delhi, January 11 Accusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her officials of obstructing a raid at the I-PAC office and premises of its director Pratik Jain in Kolkata during the probe into the coal pilferage scam, the Enforcement Directorate has moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the January 8 incident. The ED alleged that Mamata entered the raid sites and took away “key” evidence, including physical documents and electronic devices from the premises of I-PAC and obstructed and interfered with the investigation into the case. Her presence at the search site and the alleged removal of documents had an intimidating effect on officers and seriously compromised the probe agency’s ability to discharge its statutory functions independently, it alleged. The ED’s petition is likely to be mentioned for an urgent hearing on Monday. Alleging obstruction and non-cooperation by the state administration, the agency sought directions for an independent inquiry by the CBI, contending that a neutral central agency was necessary in view of the ‘interference’ by the state executive. The West Bengal Govern- c m y b ED may attach Al Falah University campus under PMLA The Bengal Government has filed a caveat to pre-empt any ex parte order. FILE ment has already filed a caveat to pre-empt any exparte order against it. In its caveat filed in the top court, the TMC government requested that no decision should be taken without giving it an opportunity to be heard. A caveat, filed before a constitutional court, is meant to ensure that no adverse order is passed without hearing the party concerned. The ED had on January 8 conducted raids on the premises of I-PAC and at the residence of its director Pratik Jain in Kolkata as part of a money-laundering probe into an alleged multi-crore coal pilferage case. Banerjee and others allegedly caused obstructions during the raid, the ED alleged. Earlier, both the ED and the West Bengal Government had filed petitions against each other in the Calcutta High Court on the issue. Accusing CM Mamata of “forcible theft” of “digital devices and documents”, the ED had urged the high court to order a CBI probe into the entire incident, including the role of the CM and senior police officers, such as state DGP Rajeev Kumar, Calcutta Police chief Manoj Verma and others. The state government had sought restraint on alleged misuse of seized data. Justice Subhra Ghosh of the Calcutta High Court had on Friday walked out as he could not conduct proceedings in the din in his overcrowded courtroom packed with lawyers linked to both the TMC and BJP . NEW DELHI: The Al Falah University campus in Faridabad, which came under the scanner of investigation agencies after the Red Fort area blast, could be attached by the Enforcement Directorate under the anti-money laundering law, official sources said on Sunday. The ED is investigating if funds for the construction of the university were sourced from alleged proceeds of crime, the sources added. — PTI SuspectedPakdrones seen hovering over areas along LoC, IB JAMMU: Security forces picked up movement of suspected drones in several forward areas along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts on Sunday evening, officials said.
