Name Money, which dropped in early March, has been winning lots of love; another, Kanniyan, follows on March 23 — both shot in Dubai just about twenty days before the region came under fire. Considering himself fortunate to have left just in time, Money’s overall outlook on life is very positive: head down, hard work mode on. The London hitmaker opens up about his new songs and his journey. “Name Money is very close to my heart. I have written the song, and it reflects my life’s motto,” he begins. Born Manpreet, he adopted “Money” as his stage name, and now the track Name Money carries that identity forward. Just before Kanniyan’s release, March saw heavy rain, and it rained while shooting the song in Dubai too. “We see it as good luck. Before this song’s shoot, I hadn’t really seen it rain in Dubai,” he says. “Kanniyan is about those feelings in life where you think about what you want to hold on to and what you want to let go of,” he explains. Money Aujla’s journey in music began as a chorus artiste and background vocalist, working alongside some of the most respected names in Punjabi music. “I worked with legendary artistes like Harbhajan Mann, Malkit Singh and Amrinder Gill,” he recalls. “From them, I learned not just singing, but discipline, lifestyle and the process behind making music.” These early years shaped his understanding of the industry. Rather than focusing on fame or recognition, Money emphasises effort and consistency. “I don’t think in terms of highs and lows,” he says. “For me, it’s about working hard, creating good content, and ensuring listeners connect with it. If the audience appreciates your work, that itself is success.” His association with collaborative music collectives also played a role in his growth. Reflecting on his time with Mafia Mundeer, Money acknowledges the exposure and learning it brought. “It was a different experience altogether. Being part of a group with such strong talent gave me a lot of insight and confidence,” he notes, adding that the relationships formed during that time continue to remain intact. In an era where controversies often accompany public figures, Money prefers to stay away from unnecessary attention. He believes that clarity of intent is key to avoiding distractions. “You should know what kind of content you want to deliver,” he says. “If your focus is clear and your intention is to reach every listener — families, youngsters, everyone — then controversy doesn’t become part of your work.” Money also reflects on his roots in Chandigarh, where he spent his formative years studying and building his foundation. Even if he spends more time in Canada now, the city remains a place of comfort and routine for him. “Whenever I need peace, I go to Sukhna Lake for a walk or meet friends at Fragrance Garden,” he shares. “These simple moments help me stay grounded.” Commenting on recent concerns with backto-back firing incidents in Chandigarh, Money stresses the importance of maintaining harmony. “An artiste should set an example,” he says. “Music should promote positivity, not glorify negativity. We need to live together peacefully and focus on constructive paths.” Travel, for Money, is another source of learning rather than just exploration. “Travel teaches one perspective. If you stay positive, every place has something to offer.” When he is not recording or performing, Money continues to Nikita’s Nazdeekiyan with Karan Johar CHAT UP WELCOME YOUNG FAN RASHMIKA, VIJAY Nikita Dutta will headline Dharmatic Entertainment’s upcoming Prime Video India series Nazdeekiyan, marking her first collaboration with the digital content arm backed by Karan Johar.
