There were no petitions to be heard and no judgments to be pronounced. Framed by the towering geometric pillars and concrete arches of Chandigarh’s iconic High Court complex, the outstretched arms of those assembled seemed to mirror the symmetry of the landmark structure itself. Bathed in the morning light, participants formed neat rows across the plaza as yoga instructors led them through a series of “asanas”, “pranayama” and meditation exercises. Organised under the aegis of Acting Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, the event was also attended by Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi. Storm hits Tricity, but hot & 2,789 candidates appear for NEET re-exam in UT humid conditions to persist Tribune News Service Tribune News Service Chandigarh, June 21 After a week during which several weather alerts failed to bring rain to the Tricity, parts of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula witnessed rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds on Sunday night, bringing temporary relief from the prevailing hot and humid conditions. The weather change came shortly after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a fresh warning around 10 pm, forecasting thunderstorms in several districts of Punjab and Haryana, including Mohali and adjoining areas of the Tricity. Soon after the warning, light to moderate rain, accompanied by gusty winds, was experienced in parts of the Tricity. The storm disrupted normal life in several areas. There were reports of tree branches snapping, power lines breaking down and poles being uprooted at some places. Several areas also witnessed temporary fluctuations in electricity and water supply as utility agencies rushed to restore services. The late-night weather activity stood in contrast to the broader trend of the past week, during which repeated yellow and orange alerts for thunderstorms and rain had produced little impact across the Tricity despite active weather systems affecting neighbouring regions. According to the latest IMD bulletin, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees above the previous day’s reading and 2.3 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 25 degrees Celsius — 2.6 degrees below normal.
