A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the State Level Road Safety Council held under the chairmanship of UT Adviser Dharam Pal here today. His wife suffered injuries in the attack. The victim has been identified as Avtar Singh Nehra and his wife Simranjeet. The police said Avtar owned a toy shop at the colony and the assailant, Krishan, also ran a toy shop nearby. The victim’s wife was also attacked by Krishan when she intervened. The assailant fled the spot after the incident. The police were informed and both injured were rushed to the Government Multi-Speciality BIZ RIVALRY Deceased Avtar Singh Nehra Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where the doctors declared Avtar dead on arrival. His wife was referred to the PGI. The police have registered a murder case and arrested Krishan. Avtar is survived by three children — two sons aged 12 years and nine years, and one daughter aged over one year. HC fixes Aug 1 for Kalyani’s bail plea Tribune News Service Chandigarh, July 27 The Punjab and Haryana High Court today fixed August 1 for hearing Kalyani Singh’s regular bail plea in the Sippy Sidhu murder case. She had moved the High Court seeking the relief on more than 30 counts. Taking up the matter, Justice Anoop Chitkara directed the petitioner, complainant and the CBI — through appropriate persons — to file “respective affidavits of objection/no objection regarding hearing of the matter by this Court”. The book, titled “Interpreting Geometries”, was released here on July 24, with former President Ram Nath Kovind receiving the first copy on his last day in office. The book is the first research on the intricate flooring patterns of the Rashtrapati Bhavan designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1929 for the Viceroy of India. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
