Rajiv Jain, the spokesman of the temple, told the media that thieves stole the silver crown, silver chains and silver bangles adorning the idol of Mata Devi and other valuables. A case has been registered in this regard. OC TWO POS FALL IN POLICE NET Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) — Gurpindar Singh of Ajtanni village — who had been absconding for the past several months. The suspect had been wanted in connection with a case of drug peddling. In another case, the Nakodar Sadar police have arrested PO Sodhi Singh of Luharan village in a case of illegal mining of sand, said IO Sukhdev Singh. TNS THREE HELD FOR SNATCHING Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police claim to have busted a gang of snatchers by arresting two of its members. Investigating officer (IO) Hans Raj said the suspects have been identified as Sagar of Lohian Khas, Sunny of Kutbi Wal village and Krishan Kumar of the Padda colony. The IO said he had received information that the suspects used to rob residents. They were intercepted at a naka. A case has been registered under Sections 379-B, 411 and 482 of the IPC. TNS PETROL BOMB HURLED AT HOUSE Hoshiarpur: A petrol bomb was reportedly hurled at a house in Mohalla Sun City by some unidentified persons in the wee hours on Wednesday. The owner of the house, Amarjit Singh, said he heard an explosion in the night and suspected it to be due to short-ciruit. However, on checking the CCTV footage, he was shocked to see that someone had attacked the house with a petrol bomb. DSP (City) Palwinder Singh and DSP (D) Parminder Singh reached the spot along with the police party. A case has been registered. OC DRUG PEDDLER ARRESTED Phagwara: The police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 14 gram of heroin and 13 intoxicant injections from his possession last night. The peddler was identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Khalwara Gate, Phagwara. The accused was nabbed at a check-point near Baba Gadhia locality, the police said. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered. OC ONE HELD UNDER NDPS ACT Phagwara:The Mehatpur police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. Investigating officer Paramjit Singh said 145 intoxicating tablets were seized from the possession of the suspect, who has been identified as Balkar Singh. Juvenile among 3 held for murder Tribune News Service Nawanshahr, January 5 The Nawanshahr police today claimed to have solved the murder mystery of a man whose body was found yesterday in Kathgarh. The police arrested three accused, including a juvenile, in the case. The victim has been identified as Vijay, a migrant worker from Jharkhand who had come to Nawanshahr two months ago. The police said he used to live with the family of a migrant worker named Charko Barju alias Jaggo. The police said Jaggo found out that Vijay was trying to have physical relation with his wife after which he along with his juvenile son and son-in-law attacked Vijay with sticks leading to his death. The incident took place on January 1. As per the information, the accused was under the influence of alcohol when he attacked Vijay. SSP Bhagirath Meena held a press conference today. He said police teams were formed to investigate the matter. The case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered against the accused. Jalandhar, January 5 Four persons were injured after a crossfire broke out between two groups at the Model Town Colony in Shahkot late on Wednesday evening. The Shahkot police have registered an FIR against 25 persons under Sections 307, 336, 148, 149 of the IPC and Sections 24, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Shahkot police station in this regard. Four of them have been identified as Surjit Singh of Shahkot, Inderjit Singh of Shahkot, Laddu Hundal from Jalandhar and Sukhpreet Singh of Shahkot. The rest still remain unidentified. The injured persons have been identified as Arshdeep Singh, Vinod Kumar, Rajwinder Singh and Harjinder Singh. The clash occurred when a group of men went to meet another group in the area to resolve an old dispute. However, matters got escalated as fresh violence broke out between both the Model Town Colony residents in a state of panic; and (right) an injured person being taken to a hospital. groups in which four men were injured. While three of the injured persons are from one group, Harjinder is from the other group. All the injured men are currently undergoing treatment. The FIR was registered on the statement of Arshdeep Singh, who lives in Jalandhar. Arshdeep said they then arranged a meeting with some people near Gurvinder’s home to resolve the latter’s dispute with Raja. Members of the other side arrived on the scene shortly after that. Arshdeep alleged that the other side’s Surjit Singh pushed him, which led to a fight. He claimed that Surjit opened fire at him, leaving him injured. Then Inderjit Singh of Dhandowal and Laddoo Hubdal and Sukhpreet Grewal all fired at them. Arshdeep’s friend Vinod was shot in his belly and Rajwinder Singh was shot in his right thigh. Arshdeep alleged that members of the other party fired more shots, before fleeing the spot. The injured were rushed to the hospital. After first-aid, the doctor referred them to the Jalandhar Civil Hospital. The trio — Arshdeep, Vinod and Rajwinder — was later admitted to a private hospital. The victim Neetu Bansal, a resident of Kamal Park in Jalandhar was going on her Activa to meet her friend Saloni Jain, residing in Jalotian Mohalla, Phagwara, when the robbers struck and snatched her valuables by pointing a sharp-edged weapon at him. She recalled the number plate of their Splendor motorcycle bearing the registration number PB-37J2314 which was confirmed by the police after scanning CCTV cameras. Later, the police succeeded in nabbing the accused who were identified as Chander Sheikher, Amit Kumar and Vishal, all residents of Goraya. The High Court while disposing of a civil writ petition filed by Aditya Bhatara on January 16, 2019, ordered that to monitor further progress, the status report be filed after six months. Jalandhar, January 5 Even after two months, the cyber cell is still groping in the dark about the identity of the fraudsters who committed Rs 16.2 lakh fraud with a retired army officer. It was on November 9 last year, the victim registered a complaint with division number 7 of the city police regarding an ‘international call scam’ that happened with him. But as the case was related to cyber fraud, the city police then transferred it to the district cyber cell for investigation. “However, even after nearly two months from the date of registration of the complaint, no FIR has been lodged in the case, and the cyber cell had no vital clues about the identity of the perpetrators involved in the scam,” said the victim. “It is astonishing that the Residents up in arms against power plant ASH PROBLEM Nawanshahr, January 5 Unrest among residents over ash emanating from a power plant on the premises of a sugar mill here is set to intensify. The local administration on Thursday released the final publication of photo electoral roll after special summary revision. The protesters went to the MC office and raised slogans but could not contact any MC official. The protesters then went to the SP office and Protesters during a dharna in Phagwara. raised slogans against the government and the civic body administration. Addressing the demonstrators, Jarnail Nangal accused the Municipal Corporation of harassing the poor in the name of illegal occupation, even as several multistoreyed complexes had come up in the city. It was the poor migrant labourers who were hit the hardest, he said. He claimed that the government’s yellow paw has always been on the poor, an example of which was the action in Jalandhar’s Latifpura. Watching the anger of the protestors, SP Phag, wara, Mukhtiar Rai met the protesters and pacified them by assuring that no such action will be taken in future.
