Amid emboldened thieves and repeated snatching incidents for the past six month, industrialists of the Jalandhar Chamber of Industries and Commerce had a meeting with key police officials at a community hall on Pathankot Road to put an end to late night targetting of their workforce by thieves and gangs. 2 BOOTHS WITH PERMANENT DEPUTATION OF COPS, E-SURVEILLANCE PROMISED TO INDUSTRIALISTS During the meeting today, provision of police booths — funded by industrialists — with a permanent deputation of policemen was proposed as a solution to the problem. The meeting comes within a fortnight of a similar meet- ing of the Focal Point Industrialists with the Police Commissioner of Jalandhar over repeated thefts. The issue of thefts and robberies at the industrial complexes were also taken up during AAP leader Raghav Chadha’s State’s first e-library set up in Hoshiarpur Hoshiarpur, March 4 Cabinet Minister Bram Shankar Jimpa dedicated Punjab’s first digital library built in Hoshiarpur to the public. Talking to mediapersons after the inauguration of the digital library at Civil Lines, Hoshiarpur, today, the minister said the stateof-the-art library, made at a cost of Rs 3 crore, will benefit every section, and a large number of people visited the facility on the first day itself. He added that the library would be maintained by Zila Parishad, Hoshiarpur. He said for the convenience of the readers, a cafeteria will also be built here in the coming time. Giving information about the digital library, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said the entire content in the library would be available through digital medium. She said the library comprises a kids’ zone, a separate room for senior citizens and a digital reading room. Also, tablets and WiFi ~3-CR LIBRARY HAS ENTIRE CONTENT IN DIGITAL FORM are available for visitors. Special arrangements have been made for the preparation of competitive examinations and related study material has been provided. Apart from this, arrangements have been made for newspapers, magazines and other books. She informed that a conference room has also been arranged in the library. The membership fee of the library is Rs 300 a month, in which 25 per cent discount has been given to the students. Apart from this, if there is any needy student or person, his library fees will be sponsored by Sarbat Da Bhala Society. The library will be open from 9 am to 7 pm the whole week. — OC INBRIEF HIT BY VEHICLE, LABOURER DIES Talwara: A labourer returning home from work died in a road accident after being hit by a speeding vehicle. Talwara SHO Hargurdev Singh and SI Kewal Krishan said the victim, identified as Bakshi Ram, 63, was a resident of Heer Beh village in the Kamahi Devi area of Talwara block. He was hit by a speeding vehicle at 5:30 pm. He was rushed to Kamahi Devi’s hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead. The footage of this accident was captured in CCTV. The police have registered a case and begun the investigation. OC 3 ARRESTED WITH DRUGS, LIQUOR Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested three smugglers and seized drugs from their possession. According to the information, a team of the Garhshankar police station arrested Avtar Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Sekhowal, while patrolling in the area. The team recovered 110 grams of intoxicating powder from him. In another incident, the Mahilpur police seized 76 grams of heroin from Jaspal Singh, alias Jassa, a resident of Katariyan, at a checpost in the area. Dhogri Industrial Park industrialists said for the past about six months, a snatching incident was being reported almost every third or fourth day. Mobile phones and money were being snatched from labourers at intersections and streets. Lately, the gangs have also adopted more gruesome means.
