Investigating officer (IO) Major Singh said the suspects had been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, alias Raju, Ramjan Mohamad, alias Jana, residents of Shahkar village, and Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukha, a resident of Ladhe Wali village. In his complaint to the police, Vipin, a resident of UP and presently staying at a marriage place in Nakodar, said three suspects waylaid him near Mallian Kalan and snatched his mobile phone by pointing a sharp weapon at him. The IO said a case under Sections 379-A, 506 and 34 of the IPC had been registered against the suspects. OC SAMBAR STRAYS INTO COLONY Phagwara: A sambar strayed into Professor Colony and its surrounding areas here on Saturday evening. It led to panic among residents, who informed the police and the Forest Department about the animal. After getting information, the rescue team rushed to the area. The team tried to catch the animal, but it managed to flee towards the main road through fields. OC YEAR'S FIRST CASE Jalandhar, January 6 A 28-year-old woman has tested positive for swine flu here. This is the year’s first swine flu case in the district. Hailing from Qazi Mandi in Jalandhar, the woman with respiratory problem was admitted to the PGI on December 1. She was discharged from the hospital on December 29. She again developed some problems and was admitted to a private hospital here on December 30. Aditya Paul, an epidemiologist here, said: “The patient tested positive for swine flu on January 3. Since then, she was undergoing treatment at the PGI. This is the first swine flu case from the district this year. Only one case has been reported from Jalandhar so far. It is, however, advisable that people wear mask at crowded places and in closed settings to keep themselves protected from viruses. The deceased has been identified as Sahil. On the statement of Sahil’s father Kashmira Lal, a resident of Patti Talwandi Sallan, the police have registered a murder case against 11 persons. The case has been registered against Abhishek Abhi, a resident of Talwandi Sallan, Amritpal Singh, Ashu, alias Ashish, residents of Manpur, Ladi, a resident of Talwandi Sallan, Shiv Charanjit, a resident of Manpur, Deepu, alias Deep, a resident of Manpur, File photo of Sahil Pamma and four unidentified persons. In his statement to the police, Kashmira Lal said in 2021, her son had a fight with Ashu. Later, he also had an argument with his son. Due to the rivalry, Ashu, along with his associates, attacked his son around 8.15 pm last night when he, along with his brother Gaurav, was serving langar at a Nagar Kirtan at a welding shop in the village. Kashmira Lal said the suspects attacked his son with weapons iron rod and baseball bats. When he and his brother Malkit Lal came forward to save Sahil, the suspects attacked them also. The suspects also snatched his son’s mobile phone. The suspects fled as people started gathering at the spot. Sahil, who suffered serious injuries in the attack, was admitted to a government hospital in Tanda. Owing to his critical condition, he was referred to Hoshiarpur where he died this morning. The police have registered a case against the suspects and started a manhunt to nab them. 3 booked for murdering youth Our Correspondent Phagwara, January 6 The Shahkot police have booked a person and his two unidentified accomplices on the charge of murdering a villager, Gurpreet (18). Station House Officer (SHO) Sukhjit Singh said the suspect had been identified as Vishal, a resident of Said Pur Jirri village. In his complaint to the police, Sarbann Singh, father of the deceased, said Gurpreet told him on January 3 evening that he was going to pay obeisance at a religious place. Vishal picked him up from his house. Sarbann said Vishal called him at 11:30 pm stating that Gurpreet met with an accident and was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Shahkot. Sarbann said he, along with his relatives, reached Shahkot. Doctors referred Gurpreet to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, from where he was further referred to the Civil Hospital, Amritsar. Owing to his critical condi- tion, Gurpreet was admitted to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on January 4. Sarbann said Gurpreet did not meet with an accident. He was, however, assaulted by Vishal and his accomplices, leading to his death. The SHO said a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (committing a crime with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code had been registered against Vishal and two unidentified accomplices. The minister said the aim of the drive was to clear the backlog of mutations and serve the people. Around 300 pending mutation cases were resolved at the Phagwara camp today, said Tehsildar Baljinder Singh. People could avail of the services by calling at helpline number 1076. master plan to curb crime Says zero tolerance policy against dereliction of duty by cops Tribune News Service Jalandhar, January 6 In order to maintain law and order in the city and curb crime, the Police Commissionerate has prepared a detailed master plan for the security and safety of city residents. Divulging details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said the major thrust of the plan was to instil a sense of security among people. He said underlying spirit behind the plan was to increase city’s security on one hand and check crime on the other. Sharma said this fool- proof plan had been meticulously prepared and would be zealously executed for the safety and security of city residents. He said as per this plan, 31 red alert naka points and 31 city sealing naka points would be set up in the city. As many as 26 zebra vehicles of the police, 16 Romeo vehicles, seven Bolero campers and 20 Scorpio and Bolero each had been pressed into service for patrolling. The Police Commissioner said in case of any red alert, around 300 police personnel would be deployed immediately to beef up security. “As many as 20 GOs, all SHOs, all police post in charges, inspectors/subinspectors from the Police Lines and four traffic zone in charges have been directed to enhance the vigil in the areas under their jurisdiction,” Sharma said. The Police Commissioner said proper barricading and lights and cameras, wherever required, would be installed on a priority. All cops had been asked to perform their duties diligently. Zero tolerance policy would be adopted against any sort of dereliction of duty by the cops.
