The police during patrolling stopped a bike rider near village Padrana and searched him and seized 115 gram of heroin from him. The police also seized the bike of the accused. The accused has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, alias Lali, of Haryana. In other case, the police stopped a car in village Ghorawaha and during its search recovered 3 kg opium. Police arrested accused Rhythm Sharma of Jalandhar and seized the car. OC 6 BOOKED FOR ABETTING SUICIDE Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case against six persons including the husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law for abetment to a woman's suicide. Mahinderpal of Jalandhar said Yogita Rani was married to Sanjeev Kumar, son of Devraj, of Chabbewal. After marriage, Yogita's husband and in-laws allegedly harassed her for more dowry. Due to which he ended her life by consuming poisonous medicine. OC TWO THEFT CASES COME TO FORE Hoshiarpur: The police have registered two cases against some persons on the charge of theft. Aarti Rana told the police that thieves stole utensils, ration and other valuables from the Anganwadi Centre in Railway Mandi School. While Sumir Soni, a resident of Adarsh Colony, Hajipur, told the police that thieves stole gold and silver jewellery and cash from his house. OC DRUG PEDDLER ARRESTED Phagwara: The city police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered 220 intoxicant tablets from his possession last night. The accused, identified as Manish, a resident of Nigaha Mohalla, Phagwara, was nabbed by the cops at the check-point near Jain Model School. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the arrested peddler. OC 1 NABBED WITH 23 GM HEROIN Phagwara: The police arrested a drug smuggler on Tuesday night and seized 23 gm of heroin from him. The accused, identified as Rajesh, a resident of Jalandhar Cantt, was apprehended at a checkpoint near Gaunspur. In another case, the police nabbed two thieves and recovered a stolen scooter. SP Bhatti revealed that the accused, Ashwini, a resident of Khotrra village, and Raju, from Mehli village, were arrested last night. OC MAN HONOURED BY IFUNA Jalandhar: Kunal Sharma, a city-based philanthropist and managing director of Spartan Sports, was recently felicitated by the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) for his outstanding contributions to sports and youth empowerment. The recognition was presented by Dr Harcharan Singh Ranauta, vice-president of IFUNA, during a ceremony held in Jalandhar. TNS Cong MLA’s relative beaten to death at Adampur dhaba 3 arrested, sharp-edged weapon used in crime recovered Tribune News Service Jalandhar, December 18 A relative of Congress MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli was beaten to death at Bassi dhaba in Adampur during a violent clash that occurred late last evening. Victim Sunil Kumar, alias Sunny, was reportedly sitting at a dhaba with his friends around 10:30 pm when the incident occurred. A group of eight youths, not known to Sunny and his friends, were sitting on a nearby table and taking liquor. Sunny reportedly went to their table and started a conversation. They also offered Sunil Kumar liquor to Sunny. After drinking for sometime, both allegedly started abusing each other on some topic. The youths started beating Sunny. They punched and kicked him. It escalated and Kamaljit Singh, alias Kamli, took out a sharp-edged weapon and hit Sunny, leaving him dead. Two of Sunny’s friends, Anmol amd Paramjit, who intervened during the clash, have also suffered serious injuries. Soon after the incident, MLA Kotli had reached the spot. He appealed to SSP Harkamal Preet S Khakh to book all accused. He said the gruesome murder had again brought to light the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. SSP Khakh said DSP , Adampur, Kulwant Singh and SHO, Adampur, Inspec- tor Ravinderpal Singh acted promptly. Within hours of the crime, they arrested three accused, including main culprit Kamli, Jorawar Singh, alias Jora, of Adampur and Satinderjit Singh of Kauhja village. A case has been registered under the BNS. The SSP said the murder weapon and a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number PB-09-K-0386 had been recovered. He said efforts were on to apprehend the remaining accused. “The arrested accused will be produced in the local court and their remand will be sought to further investigate the case”, he said. Police return seized items to owners Jalandhar, December 18 The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police returned seized properties worth over Rs 13 crore to their rightful owners during a special event titled ‘Arpan Samaroh’ held at Police Lines, here today. DGP Gaurav Yadav lauded the initiative, stating that it reflects the police’s commitment to justice and public service. Among the returned items were 413 vehicles, jewellery, household goods and other possessions involved in 583 cases registered over the past year. Additionally, 100 lost mobile phones worth Rs 20 lakh were traced and handed back to their owners. Seechewal prayed for Dallewal’s recovery and said he will raise the issues before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. He also termed the protests by farmers their constitutional right. Seechewal said the life of farmer leader Dallewal is valuable for the peasant struggle and also for his fam- ily. He said the farmers and workers, including the Supreme Court, are worried about the health of Dallewal. Seechewal said the demands for which farmers have been struggling for a long time are not being implemented despite the government accepting them. He also said farmers, who should have been in the fields, are today struggling on the streets. Jalandhar, December 18 Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Mid-Day Meal Office Employees Union members today gave demand letters to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, party president and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, party working president Sherry Kalsi and Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO during the Chief Minister’s roadshow in Jalandhar. Union leaders questioned the leaders as to why bureaucracy of the state does not pay heed to CM, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema and Arora. They said Cheema held a meeting on November 6 and issued orders to officers and again at the meeting held on December 9m the same orders were reissued to resolve the issue of regularisation and salary deduction of teachers within 15 days. However, they said the Finance Minister’s orders were not followed. Officials of the department and the personnel department were ignoring these. Union members added Mann had also issued written orders to regularise office workers on April 21, 2022, and Arora had also given orders to officers, yet the issue had not been resolved. Employees leaders Shobhit Bhagat and Gagandeep Sharma said Arora assured the delegation that they would soon ensure a panel meeting of the union with the Chief Minister. The leaders said the strike by the office workers is continuing until the demands are resolved. They said they will march towards the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh on December 20. He is AAP’s candidate for the councillor’s post in Ward number 80. He is also the Lok Sabha in-charge of the party. An ambitious Aggarwal belongs to the family of businessmen, so his entering the politics was a shocker for every- one, even for his family. Later, everyone accepted the fact. Father of three, Aggarwal is also a contender for the post of deputy mayor or mayor. “I have worked really hard for the party and am a contender for the post of mayor/deputy mayor. No one in my family has ever contested for any elections. Politics has never interested anyone’s mind. But I have always had a wish to help people. I joined AAP and, for the last three years, was working for the people of my ward. So, I thought of getting into active politics and am 100 per cent sure of win. I have people’s support with me,” a confident Aggarwal said. Aggarwal starts his day at 7.30 am and till 8.30 pm, he remains in contact with people of his ward. He has a clear vision for his ward. “I want to ensure that our parks are well-maintained, there is a problem of streetlights as well which will be resolved. Also, high tension wires is another threat and it will remain my priority as well. There are problems in Dada Colony as well,” he said. His wife has been visiting various houses to seek votes for her husband. “There is a enthusiasm among my family members who were taken aback with the decision of contesting elections,” he said.
