The police said the suspect, identified as Rohit Kumar, alias Mochia, a resident of Kandala village, Mohali, was arrested near the motor market in Sector 48 and the illegal weapon and cartridge were recovered from him. The police have registered a case under the Arms Act at the Sector 49 police station. Chandigarh, February 26 In another twist to the ongoing MC politics, repolling for the posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, which is scheduled for 10 am tomorrow, is likely to be postponed, as the Mayor has expressed his inability to attend the House meeting. “My sister is unwell, so I could not assume charge today, and will not be able to be present in the MC House on Tuesday for the polling,” said Mayor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor while talking to Chandigarh Tribune. The Mayor is the presiding officer for the elections to the two posts. This development is similar to what happened last month when then presiding officer Anil Masih reported sick on the day of mayoral polls on January 18. Consequently, the polls were postponed. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
