In another incident reported on May 1 in Samrala, the Tribune News Service Ludhiana, May 18 A collision between a car and a truck on the Samrala road in Khanna killed a woman on Friday. Two other occupants of the car suffered injuries in the mishap. The deceased has been identified as Manjit Kaur, a resident of Amloh, Fatehgarh Sahib. The errant truck driver was identified as Jagroop Singh, a resident of Sangrur. Complainant Manpreet Singh said on May 17, he, along with his mother Manjit Kaur and cousin Lakhwinder Singh, had gone to a gurdwara. While returning home, their car was hit by a speeding and rashly driven truck on the Samrala road in Khanna. The collision was so intense that the front part of the car police registered a case against the car driver, identified as Amritpal Singh of Samrala. Complainant Kashmira Singh of Samrala said he was working as security man in some local resort where on May 1 the suspect dangerously reversed his car. As he was standing behind the car his arm got sandwiched between his vehicle and another car. His arm suffered a fracture. After almost 17 days, the police registered a case against the man. The entire family of AAP’s candidate Ashok Parashar is putting in efforts for his victory and campaigning day and night these days as election frenzy is at its peak. His wife and daughters are putting in efforts to woo voters by meeting them. His wife Meenu Parashar is holding meetings in city and going doorto-door in the evening. His daughters have specially flown from Canada to be with their father during the poll. During the day, everyone has own schedule. “While my husband leaves home around 6 am, me and daughters by 9 am. We all have meetings scheduled at different places. It is at lunch time that I meet my daughters and then, we get the schedule ready for the evening. In the evening, we all three go together for meeting people door-to-door,” said Meenu Parashar. Elder daughter Upasana, who recently got married, has come from Canada. “I have come to support my dad. My day is busy like a bee these days. I venture out at 9 am, have lunch at my place and then again go out and it’s only around 9 pm that I return. We are making all effort to ensure his win,” she said. Younger daughter Nishtha, who also resides in Canada, is also here to be with her dad. “This is the time when one needs the family around. Both me and my sister decided to be with our parents here to support them. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure my father’s win,” she said. “We can rest only after June 4. Now, we have a whirlwind of activities. Once the poll results are declared, we will have quality time together,” said women from the Parashar family. Ludhiana, May 18 The Samrala police yesterday registered a case against seven persons who attacked a couple and also outraged the modesty of the woman. The suspects have been identified as Malkit Singh, Premvir, Chana Panch and two sons and two grandsons of the key suspect Malkit Singh, all residents of Samrala. The complainant, Jagtar Singh, who is also a resident of Samrala, told the police that on May 15, he was standing at the Utala bus stand in Samrala where Malkit rammed his rickshaw into his legs. Instead of saying sorry, he started abusing him. Later in the evening, the suspects cornered him and his wife and thrashed them. The suspects also outraged the modesty of the woman as they manhandled her. Yesterday, he lodged a police complaint, following which a case was registered against them under various sections of the IPC. Investigating officer in the case ASI Surajdin said after registering a case, further investigation was launched in the case and raids were on to nab the suspects. c m y b Ludhiana, May 18 The Khanna police arrested four persons and seized 3 kg of opium and Rs 1 lakh drug money from them. The police also impounded their car (bearing registration number DL 10 CA18029). They have been identified as Manpreet Singh of Gaushala chowk in Khanna, Roshal Lal of Payal and Sudhir Kumar and Sourav of UP . Khanna DSP Harjinder Gill said the police had received a tipoff, after which they intercepted their car at the Amloh chowk. During checking, opium and drug money were seized from the car and they were nabbed. A case has been registered. — TNS Major tragedy averted as loaded truck overturns Ludhiana, May 18 A loaded truck overturned on the Ludhiana-Jalandhar highway this morning. A major tragedy averted as neither the truck driver nor any commuter suffered injury in the mishap. As per information, the incident occurred around 7 am. The truck was on the way to Dasuya from the Pakhowal road here. When it reached near the Jalandhar bypass, one of the tyres burst due to which the driver lost control over the vehicle and it overturned. The driver and his helper INDERJEET VERMA Ludhiana, May 18 Gill is the biggest and Raikot is the smallest Assembly constituency in the state’s biggest and largest Ludhiana district, in terms of area and population, the final electoral rolls have confirmed. With over 53 per cent male and almost 47 per cent female voters, Ludhiana district, spread across 14 Assembly segments falling under two Parliamentary constituencies – Ludhiana (9) and Fatehgarh Sahib (5) – has registered a total of 26,94,622 electors for the General Election to the 18th Lok Sabha slated for June 1. As many as 151 third gender voters have also been listed in the electoral rolls. The final electors summary published by the district election office, a copy of which is with The Tribune, showed that the district’s biggest Gill Assembly constituency has a total of 2,78,191 voters, including 1,47,661 male, 1,30,519 female and 11 third gender while the smallest Raikot Vidhan Sabha seat has a total of 1,47,991 electorates, including 79,243 male and 68,747 female. While Gill has a maximum of 294 polling stations, Raikot has a minimum of 188 polling stations. The second biggest Assembly seat in the district is Sahnewal with a total of 2,71,675 voters, including 1,47,223 male, 1,24,446 female and six third gender. The constituency has 273 polling stations.
