The suspect has been identified as Sunny Kumar, a resident of Saprra village in Uttar Pradesh. Balwinder Singh Bhullar, Station House Officer (SHO), Sadar, said Sunny’s brother-inlaw Toofan Paul, who helped the suspect escape, had already been arrested. A case under Sections 376-AB, 377 and 212 of the IPC and Section 6 of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered. SHO Bhullar said as the suspect was a minor, he was produced before a juvenile court, which sent him to special home. MAN KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENT Hoshiarpur: A man died in a road accident near Mohalla Gautam Nagar on the Hoshiarpur-Una road late on Thursday night. According to information, a speeding car crashed into the wall of a salon near the Bullanwari chowk and flipped several times before hitting a pole on the other side of the road. According to eyewitnesses, the car was being driven at a high speed. The driver lost control over the vehicle while trying to save pedestrians. The injured person was taken out of the vehicle and shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. After getting information, the police reached the spot and initiated investigations into the matter. State Health Minister Balveer Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said yoga was the best way to keep oneself physically and mentally fit. 24 nabbed in Kapurthala, drugs, illicit liquor seized Kapurthala, June 21 During a cordon and search operation (CASO) carried out by the Kapurthala police, 51 grams of heroin, 500 grams of poppy husk, 900 intoxicant capsules, 1100 intoxicant tablets, 57,000 ml illicit liquor, 45500 ml liquor, 315 gram intoxicant powder, two tractors, an Innova and 10 two-wheelers were seized by the police. The district police on Friday carried out Operation Eagle 4 arresting 24 persons with registration of 22 FIRs. The entire operation was supervised by ADGP (Internal Security) Shive Kumar Verma. The police teams led by SSP Vatsala Gupta and SPs and DSPs concerned conducted a search at 11 drug hot spots. The police also verified as many as 246 suspects in all four sub-divisions of the district, she added. SSP Vatsala Gupta said that the search operation was aimed to nab those found involved in drug peddling and that the anti-drug campaign would be a continuous process. The police teams raided the hot spots from 8 am to 2 pm so that the drug traffickers could be nabbed. During the operation, police teams also arrested two proclaimed offenders besides seizing 13 suspicious vehicles across the district, she added. Our Correspondent Phagwara, June 21 The Jalandhar Range police, headed by DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill, conducted a cordon and search operation (CASO) at drug hotspots to dismantle the network. DIG Gill said the aim of this operation was to dismantle the network engaged in illicit sale of drugs and psychotropic substances. The DIG, Jalandhar Range, ordered SSPs to initiate routine patrolling in the affected areas to curb this illegal activity and ensure the safety and security of the community. He emphasised the importance of such operations to ensure a drug-free environment for residents of Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Jalandhar rural district. He also warned drug smugglers that strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in drug trafficking within the jurisdiction.
