House owner Gaurav stated that he had recently procured wiring for renovation purposes, part of which had already been installed. The theft occurred around 2:30 am, as per footage recovered from CCTV cameras. Gaurav has filed a complaint with the police. OC MAN HELD WITH ILLEGAL LIQUOR Phagwara: The Excise Department, in collaboration with the police, arrested one person involved in the illegal liquor trade. Officials arrested Sham Lal of Dhakk Pandori and registered cases against three individuals, Sham Lal, Boota Ram of Sitla Mata Mandir Colony, and Bittu Ram of Dhakk Pandori. Excise Inspector Manjit Kaur reported the seizure of 87,750 ml of illicit liquor and 23,400 ml of beer from the accused. OC FIVE BOOKED FOR ASSAULT Phagwara: A land lease dispute turned violent when five persons allegedly assaulted a man near Bhandal Bet village. Complainant Karamjit Singh informed the police that he had acquired 18 acres of panchayati land that was previously leased to Balbir Singh. Following argument during a meeting at the BDPO office, the situation escalated. Karamjit was later beaten up by the accused. Sonam Tiwari (39) had gone missing since June 14. She allegedly took the extreme step following mental health issues after a recent medical diagnosis. This is the second body to be found from a water body at Kapurthala in a single day. Sonam, who went to the Beas on Saturday night, along with a friend, had gone missing from the banks of the river and her family had been searching for her since then. The family also posted messages on social media regarding her disappearance, asking information about her whereabouts. While a massive search had been launched ever since then, a team of divers found Sonam’s body from the river near Goindwal Sahib this afternoon. OC Jalandhar, June 16 A man was arrested with 120 intoxicating tablets and over Rs 6,000 drug money by the Adampur police during a patrol against miscreants on Monday. Kulwant Singh, DSP , Adampur, said a police party near the Sundarpur turn, Alawalpur, spotted a man coming from the other side on a motorbike, who on seeing the police, panicked and tried to turn back his bike. The man was arrested by the Adampur police on the basis of suspicion. He was identified as Honey of Mohalla Ajit Nagar, ward number 10, Adampur. The police said the accused had hanged a heavy polythene bag, tied to the left side of his motorbike, which, upon being searched, was found to have tablets along with some money. The DSP said 120 tablets along with Rs 6,500 drug money was recovered from the accused’s possession. His motorbike has also been seized by the police. A case was registered under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Adampur police station in Jalandhar. The police said a further detailed investigation will begin to trace the supply chain trail in the case. The police also said the accused also face two previous cases against him. The incident took place in Barnala Kalan village in the district. Owner Sarabjit Singh was left inconsolable after discovering the sudden deaths of his five buffaloes. “I had 10 cattle. Five of them, all buffaloes, died after consuming the fodder I had fed them. Three of the deceased buffaloes were pregnant,” he said. The remaining cattle, including cows, were saved after veterinary doctors from the area rushed to the scene and administered emergency treatment. The loss is a severe blow to the farmer’s livelihood. According to Sarabjit, each SSP: More arrests likely in bank robbery case Phagwara, June 16 SSP Gaurav Toora, addressing a press conference on Monday, said the Kapurthala police had arrested three persons and recovered Rs 28.67 lakh looted cash, two pistols and two vehicles used in the bank robbery case. The robbery had taken place at the HDFC Bank branch in Rehana Jattan village, Phagwara, on May 30. He said three masked individuals had stormed the bank and fled with a large sum of money, triggering an intensive manhunt and a statewide alert. “The operation was executed with precision, and we are continuing interrogation of the accused. More revelations are expected as the investigation progresses,” said SSP Toora, praising the efforts of the police team for their diligence and coordination across districts and state borders. The recovery of such a substantial amount and weapons has brought considerable relief to the local population. The investigation is still ongoing and the police have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests in the coming days. — OC Jalandhar, June 16 SHO Anil Kumar of Police Station Number 3 has been sent to the Police Lines after allegations of negligence in a violent attack on a soya chaap shop at Milap Chowk, here. The action was taken after shopkeepers and victims accused the SHO of not responding to repeated calls for help during the incident. Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur issued orders and appointed Sub-Inspector Rajinder Singh as the new station in-charge. The incident took place last Wednesday evening when a group of around 15 men, dressed as Nihang Singhs, attacked Duggal Veg Chaap shop at Milap Chowk. The attackers, armed with swords, vandalised the shop, damaged counters and glass cabinets. The attack reportedly followed an argument over a delayed order. Mohit, shop owner, and his son were seriously injured in the assault. The employees, who have been serving the MC for the past 12 years, allege that despite their contribution to essential services, their job has not been regularised.“We will go on strike from June 18,” they said. c m y b Tribune News Service Jalandhar June 16 Satnam Singh Chahal, executive director of the North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), has made an urgent appeal to the Government of India and the international humanitarian community to act immediately for the safe release of three young Punjabi men, who were kidnapped in Iran and are now caught in the crossfire of an escalating Israel-Iran conflict. Chahal said as appearing in a section of the Press, the victims Husanpreet Singh (27) of Sangrur, Amritpal Singh (23) of Hoshiarpur, and Jaspal Victims Husanpreet Singh of Sangrur, Amritpal Singh of Hoshiarpur and Jaspal Singh of SBS Nagar were reportedly abducted by a human trafficking syndicate, while going to Australia via Teheran. Each had paid approximately ~18 lakh to agents based in Punjab for what they were told would be a legal migration route. Instead, their journey turned into a nightmare of captivity, thrashings and ransom demands. Singh (32) of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar were reportedly abducted by a trans-national human trafficking syndicate while going to to Australia via Teheran. Each had paid approximately Rs18 lakh to agents based in Punjab for what they were told would be a legal migration route. Instead, their journey turned into a nightmare of captivity, thrash- ings and ransom demands. “The families of the young men are living in fear,” said Chahal. “They are clinging to the assurances made by the Indian authorities, but the ongoing military unrest in the region is making their situation even more precarious. These men are the victims of a trafficking racket and now at the mercy of war.” Chahal highlighted that the deepening conflict between Iran and Israel has severely compromised diplomatic and rescue efforts. He emphasised the moral obligation of the Indian Government to intensify efforts for their safe return and called on international human rights organisations and the United Nations to assist with humanitarian access and intervention. “NAPA stands in solidarity with the affected families and appeals to both Indian and global authorities to prioritise the safe return of these boys,” Chahal added. “Punjab must take immediate legal action against the travel agents.”
