Kiran Pal Kaur of Chak Fateh Pur village in Bathinda complained to the police that she was working as an ETT teacher at Government Primary School in Rampur village. She locked the school after 2 pm on August 9 and went to her parental village. Kiran Pal said she opened the school on the morning of August 12 and found an LED missing from her office and Rs 500 stolen from her almirah. OC TWO BOOKED FOR CULPABLE HOMICIDE Phagwara: The police have booked two residents on charges of culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy. The accused have been identified as Arun Sahota and Major of Indra Colony, Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Nakodar. Chaman Lal, a resident of the same locality, complained to the police that the accused administered some poisonous substance to his son in July which killed him. His body was found lying on Sharak Pur Road near Guru Nanak Nation College on July 30. A case has been registered . Just as DC Himanshu Aggarwal was about to reach the venue and was scheduled to hoist the Tricolour, Sinha had already played his part. The DC, who came dressed up in a multi-coloured Rajasthani-style turban for the event, was reportedly taken aback at the move. Even though it will be CM Bhagwant Mann, who is scheduled to hoist the flag on I-Day at the venue, the chief guest’s part is usually played by the DC or any other senior official from the civil administration on the full dress rehearsal. The miffed DC reportedly did not even board the jeep for inspecting the guard of honour. Sinha, Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Sharma and ADC Amit Mahajan took a round on the jeep. The DC, however, got some pictures clicked later near the flag post and with the participants of the cultural show. Sinha said, “It was just a role play that I did during the rehearsal. Jinda of Chautala had returned from the Chintpurni fair. He called his son Sandeep Kumar and brother Mangal to Adda Bhunga to take him back home. When they started going to the village on a motorcycle, they were hit by a vehicle in whichboth brothers died while Sandeep was seriosuly injured. Phagwara, August 13 The local unit of Powercom and Transco Contract Workers Union (Electricity Board) Punjab, led by its branch head Arshdeep Suman, today submitted a demand letter addressed to XEN Hardeep Kumar for forwarding it to the Chief Minister. The letter warned that if the pending demands of powercom and contract workers are not met with immediately, a statewide protest will commence on August 15-16. Talking to the media later, Arshdeep Suman outlined the union’s key demands. These include regularisation of CHB and contract workers, a mini- Minor girl killed in road mishap Phagwara, August 13 A 14-year-old minor girl died on the spot when a speeding bike hit her near village Saprod on Phagwara-Jalandhar highway last night. The deceased, identified as Gunjan, was crossing the road. She was taken to the Civil Hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors. Surinder Bhagat, father of the girl, told the police that he ran two dhabas on both sides of the highway and his daughter was coming to meet him when she was hit by a speeding bike bearing registration number PB-37K-1245. The motorcyclist, identified as Amir Arora, a Phillaur resident, managed to escape. The police have registered a case against the motorcyclist. In a recent statement, Seechewal congratulated athletes for their stellar performance in the Paris Olympics, noting their role in elevating the country’s prestige on the global stage. Seechewal highlighted Punjab’s strong tradition in Olympics, citing the example of Sansarpur village, where eight athletes won medals. The civic body has a footfall of thousands of people on a daily basis and the lift stopped working, leaving Jassi and her daughter trapped inside for 10 minutes. Jassi, while talking to mediapersons, said she had been coming to the office for the last several days, but her work had not been done yet. “It is an everyday struggle for me. Today, when I got stuck, I got shocked because I had my daughter with me,” she said. She was accompanied by her brother who was not in the lift and raised the alarm and informed the technical staff about the matter. Phagwara, August 13 On a complaint lodged by a generator mechanic Vishal Nayyar of Jalandhar, the police have registered a case against two robbers on the charges of kidnapping the complainant and snatching cash worth Rs 20,000, a twotola gold bracelet and his mobile phone at the Phagwara-Palahai road on Monday. The complainant told the police that he was going to repair a generator near Santokhpura locality in Phagwara and stopped his car on the roadside when two robbers struck, pushed him in his car and drove towards village Palahai. The victim said that the miscreants snatched his belongings after stopping the car on Palahai road and managed to escape leaving him behind in a state of shock. The police are investigating the matter. — OC Experts try to open the Jalandhar MC office lift in which a woman and her minor daughter got stuck in on Tuesday. Jassi further said her mother, who is a retired employee of the Municipal Corporation, had been on bed for the last two years. “Her dues are not being released by the corporation,” she alleged. Jassi fur- ther added, “Daily, I go to the third floor, meet officials and come back empty-handed. Nobody is paying heed. This is what a normal person goes through. Kisi di sunvaayi nahee ethe,” an enraged Jassi said.
