The accused Diljit, alias Lili, is a resident of Pasla village. Paramjit Singh of Aade Kali village had complained to the police that he was returning home from Jandiala village with his daughter on August 14 afternoon when the accused snatched a bag containing a mobile phone and certificates from his daughter. A case was registered against three persons. OC TWO ARRESTED FOR BETTING Hoshiarpur: The police arrested two accused for betting and recovered Rs 39,260 from them. According to information, the police arrested Harpreet Singh, alias Honey, resident of Basi Khabaju, for betting and recovered Rs 8,630 from him, while the police of Garhshankar arrested Mohan Lal, resident of the district, for betting and recovered Rs. 30,630 cash from him. OC WOMAN HELD WITH HOOCH Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested a woman for selling illicit liquor. Investigating officer Dalwana Singh said 30 bottles of hooch were seized from accused Sukhjindar Kaur, alias Sukhi, a resident of Sango Wal village. A case under Sections 61/1/14 of the Punjab Excise Act has been registered against the accused. OC MARRIED WOMAN FOUND MISSING Phagwara: The police have registered a missing report in connection with the disappearance of a married woman. Investigating officer Sarwan Singh said Rajwant Kaur (28), wife of Talwindar Pal Singh, of Saidpur Jhirri village has been missing for the last three days and a missing report has been registered. OC VILLAGER DIES BY SUICIDE Phagwara: A villager has reportedly died by suicide. The deceased has been identified as Navjot Singh of Nawan Pind Jattan village and was living at Mahalla Preet Nagar Nakodar. Kewal Singh of Basesharpur village informed the police about the incident. OC MAN ARRESTED FOR THEFT Phagwara: The Phagwara police have arrested a person and recovered one stolen mobile phone from his possession on Thursday night. Her father Vipin Kumar said his daughter had been scared of attending school for the past some days but did not share her problem with anyone at home. He said he returned from work at 8 pm and asked for Niharika’s whereabouts when his wife pointed out that she was in her room which she had bolted from inside. The body of the deceased has been taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Police officials said they were still in process of taking statements and were yet to lodge an FIR. Hockey fever grips youths, 200 show up for selection trials Tribune News Service Jalandhar, August 30 It seems that Indian hockey team that won the Olympic medals for two consecutive times has changed everything at the ground level too. Most of the players in the team were from Punjab and Harmanpreet Singh was the captain. It was for the first time ever that over 200 budding players showed up for the selection trials for the Punjab Sub-Junior Hockey Team, which are being held at Surjit Hockey Stadium. The number was so high that the selection trials that started on Thursday continued today as well. Justice Manjari Nehru Kaul and Managing Judge of Session Division, Hoshiarpur, attended the inauguration ceremo- ny. She also visited various sections of the new complex along with District and Session Judge, Hoshiarpur, Dilbagh Singh Johal, DC Komal Mittal, SSP Surendra Lamba and judicial officers. Inaugurating the twostorey complex equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities built at a cost of about Rs 15.26 crore on six acres, Chief Justice Sheel Nagu said the complex was a ray of hope for residents of Mukerian to get justice. He said with this complex, the judicial process would improve. He said this complex would bring efficiency in the judicial structure of the area. Six arrested with 1 kg of hashish, stolen motorcycle Tribune News Service Jalandhar, August 30 The Jalandhar Rural police have arrested six individuals involved in drug trafficking and multiple robbery cases. The police have seized 1.05 kg of hashish from their possession. The accused have been identified as Rahul, alias Mangi, a resident of Mohalla Chaudharia, Phillaur, Anil Paswan from Bihar and currently residing in Phillaur, Rekha, resident of Jagatpur Panjdhera, Phillaur, Vikas, alias Bobby, a resident of Mohalla Ravidaspura, Phillaur, Gourav Kumar, alias Bhakta, resident of Mohalla Bhandera, Phillaur, and Sunita, resident of Mohalla Santokhpura, Phillaur. SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the operation had been conducted under the supervision of DSP Phillaur, , Swaran Singh Bal. Led by Inspector Sukhdev Singh, SHO of Phillaur Police Station, a special check-point was set up where the accused were apprehended with a signifi- cant quantity of hashish, along with a stolen motorcycle that had been taken away from the vicinity of Shiv Mandir, GT Road, Phillaur. The accused would be produced in the local court, the SSP said. In a separate operation, the police team has also arrested three members of a gang who had reportedly been carrying out robberies in the area. The police recovered 14 stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle from the gang members. These individuals had been terrorising residents across Phillaur, Guraya and Bilga. SSP Khakh elaborated, “The arrests of these criminals have significantly reduced the instances of robbery in the region.” In this regard, an FIR had been lodged on August 28 under Section 20C of the NDPS Act at Phillaur Police Station, on August 19 and August 13 at Phillaur Police Station. They will be produced in the local court and their remand will be taken to further investigate the cases and to check their forward and backward links.
