The memorandum was addressed to the Education Minister, Punjab. The DTF members were seen holding the flags. Kulwinder Singh, president of the front, said the teachers posted in the schools having more strength were shown to be eligible to apply for promotion, which was not right at all. "We condemn this decision and the DTF has opposed this move," he said.OC MINOR ABDUCTED IN PHAGWARA Phagwara : On a complaint lodged by Manjit Kumar of Nanak Nagri, Phagwara, the police have registered a case against unknown person on the charge of abducting a minor daughter of the complainant. He told the police that his 17-year old daughter was doing English-speaking course in Phagwara. On September 7, she did not return home. Manjit said he informed the police and expressed his apprehension that someone abducted his daughter. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the cops were investigating the matter. OC ONE HELD, TWO BOOKED FOR FIRING Nakodar: The police have arrested a villager and booked two on the charge of attempt to murder and firing. The accused has been identified as Amandeep Singh of Meerapur village. Te other two accused have been identified as Rasmeet Singh and his brother Gurveer Singh. Karan Kumar complained to the police that the accused waylaid him on September 24 in the village and the accused Rasmeet fired at him but his brother pushed him to the side and saved him. A case has been registered against the accused and a licensed revolver has been seized from the spot. OC TWO BROTHERS DIE IN ACCIDENT Hoshiarpur: Two brothers died in a road accident that occurred near Bhagala on Wednesday. The police have booked the accused. Mandeep Singh, a resident Budhpur, told the police that his father Gurmeet Lal has a shop in Bhangala. He said his father and uncle Ravidas were going to the shop on a bike. When they reached near a school on the highway, a car hit his father's bike and both died on the spot. A case has been registered against the accused car driver Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Kaulpur, Dasuya. OC 2 DENGUE CASES REPORTED Jalandhar: Dengue cases have seen a dramatic hike in September. With the two new cases being reported today, the total number of cases in September has reached 22. The Jalandhar district had merely 11 dengue cases until August 1. Majority of the Dengue cases have been reported in August and September. The minster, after paying obeisance to Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Nirmal Kutia, was welcomed by RS MP and environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal. Dr Ravjot Singh said the development of cities would be started from the land of Baba Nanak. He said starting from the development of Sultanpur Lodhi, where Guru Nanak Dev spent a long time of his life, the government would endeavour to change the pattern of the rest of the cities of Punjab. Dr Ravjot, thanking AAP’s national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, said they had given the new responsibility by including him in the Cabinet. He would perform it with sincerity. He praised Seechewal for making the sacred Kali Bein, touched by Nanak’s feet, clean again. Jalandhar, September 26 Even as the process to file nomination papers for the panchayat poll is set to start tomorrow, leaders of the Opposition parties have alleged that they are yet to get the lists regarding reservation for the posts of sarpanch and panch. They said while those working for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party were aware of the reserved seats and had already started making preparations accordingly, they were still kept in the dark and could not select candidates. Shahkot Congress MLA Hardev Laddi said, “We have been repeatedly trying to get information regarding villages where the posts of sarpanch have been reserved. Till date, we do not know whether we should be able to field the candidate whom we zeroed in on or need to pick a woman general candidate, an SC canddidate or a woman SC candidate. On the contrary, AAP leaders in our area have all the details available with them. Whatever small information we have is through their workers only”. Likewise, former Akali Dal MLA from Phillaur Baldev Khera too said, “No lists of reservation for the posts of sarpanch and panch could be made available to us. The interested candidates from Phillaur have been running around to get the lists but to no avail”. Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, Himanshu Mahajan said, “There hardly was any time available for us for uploading the lists as the elections got announced just a day ago. We will be uploading the lists of reserved posts of sarpanch and panch on the portal jalandhar.nic.in by late evening today. We have provided hard copies to some leaders who approached us this evening. We have some limited hard copies available with us, which we should be able to deliver tomorrow.” 28 BOOTHS IN 13 VILLAGES SENSITIVE Polling booths have been set up in all 91 villages in Phagwara. SDM Jashanjit Singh said 28 booths were considered sensitive booths which were set up at village Mauli, Jamalpur, Miherru, Jagatpur-Jattan, Bhakhariana, Bhularai, Khalwara, Ranipur, Panchhat, Rehana-Jattan, Malikpur,Rampur Khalian and Sangatpur. FILE Poll to be held for 546 sarpanches, 3,180 panches Phagwara, September 26 The Kapurthala administration is all set for the smooth conduct of election for 546 panchayats as the nomination process will start from tomorrow. DC Amit Kumar Panchal said, “All arrangements have been made for the election of 546 sarpanches and 3,180 panches in free and fair manner.” He also said the administration had deputed 70 returning officers to receive the nomination papers. Nominations will take place till October 4, followed by scrutiny of nomination on October 5 and withdrawal on October 7. The voting will take place on October 15 and the counting will be done the same day. The time for nominations will be from 11 am to 3 pm. The DC said 3,91,734 voters would take part in the democratic process at 661 polling stations, comprising 2,00,741 male and 1,90,984 female voters. He also said out of 546 panchayats, 109 have been reserved for SCs, 109 for SC women, 164 for general category women and 164 for general category candidates. He also said BDPO offices in all blocks had been asked to set up help desks to facilitate people for election-related matters so that they should witness hassle-free process. Urging the people to participate in large numbers in the election process, the DC said, “All eligible voters must perform their democratic duty to strengthen the democracy at the grassroot level.” — OC 25K have not received ‘Kisan Samman Nidhi’ Woman dies by Aakanksha N Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 26 Nearly 25,000 farmers have not received instalments under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme because of the pending KYC and land seedings. In Jalandhar, there are over 50,000 beneficiaries under the scheme. The scheme was started in 2019 for the marginal farmers. They receive Rs 6,000 in a year — Rs 2,000 after every four months. Department officials said majority of them were asked to do e-KYC and the remaining had to complete the process of land seeding. The farmers have been making rounds of the Agriculture Department and every agricultural camp to know the status of their instalments. A group of about 35 farmers enquired about their instalments under the scheme to department officials at the block level awareness programme for the farmers on Wednesday. The camp was held at Jamsher village. They carried their documents and were asking why they didn’t receive the instalments under the scheme. Chief Agriculture Officer Jaswant Rai said village level camps were being organised by the department where the farmers could contact the officials. “The nodal officers have been appointed at the village level to address the issue. The farmers are being guided by the officials,” he said. Another official added, “There are some farmers who have been found to be non eligible too as they do farming on more than 10 acres. They did receive a few instalments, but, then on checking, they were found ineligible under the scheme.” Jalandhar, September 26 A woman has allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her home. Identified as Mamta, a resident of Saida Gate here, she worked at the shop of a well-known jeweller in the city. Her family claims that ongoing issues with her husband led her to take her own life. According to the police, Mamta’s body has been taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem and further action will follow as statements have been recorded from her family. Her parents said they were treating the case as a domestic dispute and were investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. As per the deceased family, she had been married for seven years and was the mother of a young daughter. Her parents, Kiran and Sanjay Singh, allege that their son-in-law had been unemployed and was addicted to drugs. They claimed that he forcefully took her salary, which left Mamta in a state of emotional distress. Her family believed this was the primary reason she decided to end her life. The family said they received a call late at night from Mamta’s mother-inlaw, informing them that something had happened. When they arrived at her home, they found her dead, hanging from the ceiling fan. The family had demanded an investigation into her death from all possible angles. Pb roadways employee held with drugs Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, September 26 A team of special branch of the police arrested the incharge of the Chandigarh counter of Punjab Roadways Hoshiarpur with poppy husk and opium today. According to information, the team, consisting of Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajinder Mohan and Kuldeep Singh of special branch, and constable Deepak Raja on the basis of a secret information, seized five packets of poppy husk and opium in an envelop in the bag of Aman Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Barfani Hoshiarpur, from the bus stand, Hoshiarpur. The police team informed the Model Town police station about this. ASI Hans Raj and a police party reached the spot and arrested the accused Aman and seized five packets of poppy husk (1.25 kg) and opium from him. Hans Raj said a case had been registered against the accused under Sections 15/18-61-85 of the NDPS Act and had been arrested. 493 traffic violators Anti-encroachment drive in city Lawyers to stay away challaned in spl drive from courts till Oct 1 Jalandhar, September 26 The Commissionerate Police has launched a crackdown on traffic violations under a special campaign across the city. In a bid to streamline traffic flow and improve public safety, the authorities have registered 13 FIRs, issued 499 notices and handed out 493 challans to offenders. The campaign comes under the directives of Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma on 17 key roads. Roads such as Adda Hoshiarpur, Jail Chowk, Kamal Palace Road and Railway Station Road have been marked as one-way from 8am to 8pm. Among the 493 traffic challans, 214 were for underage driving, while 279 for violations by school buses, vans and autos. In addition, 499 notices were issued to businesses and individuals illegally occupying public roads, including shop owners, street vendors and hotels. — TNS Jalandhar, September 26 The Tehbazari Department of the Municipal Corporation launched anti-encroachment drive in various parts of the city today. The drive was carried out starting from the PNB chowk to Jyoti chowk, Dr B R Ambedkar Chowk to Civil Hospital and Ali mohalla. The drive started around 12 noon and continued for four hours. A team, accompanied by police personnel, took various things in its possession. The executive unanimously resolved to support the call made by the DBA, Roopnagar. Advocate Ranjit Kumar, president, DBA, Hoshiarpur, said, “The proposed Gramin Nyayalayas are likely to create procedural and practical complications, which may ultimately render the litigants and advocates at loss. Therefore, the DBA, Hoshiarpur, has resolved to refrain from appearing in all courts — civil, criminal, family, revenue, consumer, and labour courts — until October 1”. He requested the Bar members to show solidarity to uphold the dignity of our profession and protect the interests of the public at large. OC
