He defeated former president Anil Vohra by a significant margin of 88 votes in the elections. The voting took place at the Sector 21 community centre. As many as 360 votes were polled, roughly 98% of the total members of the body. Chadha bagged 224 to win the election. The election committee, led by chairman Satpal Gupta, ensured a smooth and fair election process. The committee consisted of prominent members, including Charanjiv Singh, the outgoing president, Diwakar Sahoonja, former president, and Prashotam Mahajan, vice-chairman. Charanjiv had served the CBM for the maximum seven terms. Due to constitutional limitations, he was ineligible to contest in the current election. The State Agriculture Marketing Board will start receiving applications for the first auction of shopcum-office (SCO) sites in the new facility from Monday. Applicants can submit their documents from March 3 to 24 and the auction will be held from March 28 to 31. In the first phase, out of the proposed 92 SCO sites, 23 will be auctioned. The existing commission agents have demanded sites on a freehold basis. According to the Board, an allottee will only be able to transfer the site after 15 years from the date of allotment. The Board has recently constituted an eight-member committee to conduct the auction. The 120 sq yd sites, with a reserve price of Rs 3.70 crore each, will be allotted on a leasehold basis for 99 years. The remaining units will be put up for auction in the second phase, as per the terms and conditions A vendor operates in a congested space at the Sector 26 mandi. The Sector 26 mandi operates on 24 acres, whereas the new facility in Sector 39 is spread over 75 acres. The new location in Sector 39 will help ease traffic congestion on the Vikas Marg and Purva Marg. However, those reaching the new mandi from Delhi and Shimla may face slightly increased travel times. Unlike the existing Mandi in Sector 26, the new facility will have two dedicated cold storages. A two-acre vending zone will be developed to address the long-standing issue of vendors occupying auction platforms, thereby improving visitor convenience. Advanced technology similar to toll plazas will be installed at the entry and exit points, enabling authorities to monitor the quantity of goods being transported to the market. A separate garbage processing plant will be established to manage daily waste more efficiently. At present, the waste from the Sector 26 mandi has to be transported to the Municipal Corporation’s processing plant. Three held for theft, snatching Tribune News Service Chandigarh, March 2 The Operations Cell arrested three youths for snatched mobile phones and stealing two-wheelers. The police said the accused, Akeel, alias Mulla (24), and Akbar Khan (23), both residents of Nayagaon, were nabbed near the Haryana Chief Minister’s residence. A stolen mobile phone and the motorcycle used in the crime were recovered from them. The police produced both accused before the court yesterday and the judge sent Akeel to one-day police remand. His interrogation led to the recovery of four mobile phones and a scooter that were stolen from the Mauli Jagran police station. Akeel already faces six cases registered against him in Chandigarh. Another team of Operations Cell nabbed Mohammad Ashif (25), a resident Dhanas, with a scooter that was stolen from the Sector 11 police station area. Jeetu Shakya, a resident of Phase-XI, Mohali, had reported that he was returning home on Saturday night when three youths signalled him to stop on the Sector 32/33 road. The requested him to drop them in Sector 47. Upon reaching the drop point, one of the suspects pulled out a knife and threatened him. The other two suspects robbed him of his mobile phone and purse containing cash and documents. The police registered a case at the Sector 31 police station. During the investigation, two accused, identified as Sahil (24) and Naveen, alias Navve (26), both residents of Sector 20, were arrested. Naveen is a sanitation worker with the Chandigarh MC. The complainant, 21-yearold Sanskar Rawat from Zirakpur, stated that his friend, Parv Kumar, a resident of Sector 42, introduced him to a group of five persons, who claimed they could provide tickets for the concert. The Department of Anatomy recently received two donations made by the families of Pahilaj Govind Ram Mohan and Shail Bajaj. Pahilaj Govind Ram Mohan (65), a resident of New Chandigarh, Mohali, passed away on February 18. His wife, Varsha Mohan, along with their sons Robin Mohan and Sahil Mohan, as well as his Year Families of Pahilaj Govind Ram and Shail donated their bodies. brothers Pratap Rai and Nanak G Mohan were instrumental in this noble act. The body of Shail Bajaj, a resident of Sector 4, Panchkula, who died at the age of 82, was donated following her demise on February 26. The body was donated by her daughter, Tanu Parmar, daughter-in-law Ekta Bajaj and niece Neelam Gupta. Such body donations enable students and researchers to enhance their knowledge of human anatomy and improve future medical treatments. On September 19, he transferred Rs 96,000 via UPI to Parv as an initial payment. Parv later introduced Rawat to Vardaan Mann, who assured him that the tickets would be delivered by December 11. Trusting Mann’s promise, Rawat transferred about Rs 7 lakh to him. He also sent Rs 43,000 to Akshdeep Singh, Rs 44,500 to Vineet Paul and Rs 2,000 to Rohan Singh. However, the accused failed to provide him with the tickets as promised. On Decem- ber 9, Mann gave Rawat one genuine ticket. On the day of the concert, the accused asked him to meet near the ISBT, Sector 17, and gave him eight more tickets. When Rawat and his friends arrived at the concert venue, they were shocked to discover that the eight tickets were fake. The bouncers at the entry gate tore six of them, but Rawat managed to keep two as evidence. The victim informed the police about the incident. The police carried out an investigation and has now registered a case at the Sector 17 police station. Hit by motorcycle, elderly woman dies Tribune News Service Panchkula, March 2 An elderly woman died after allegedly being hit by a speeding motorcycle under the Sector 20 flyover here on Saturday. According to the complainant, Sachin Rawat, who works as a cook, the accident occurred when he, his wife Vijay Laxmi and grandmother Sushila were crossing the road on foot. They were heading towards Abhaypur to buy some goods when a motorcycle coming from Old Panchkula allegedly hit Sushila. Sachin and his wife narrowly escaped. Sachin said the motorcycle, which had two riders, was moving at high speed. His grandmother passed out and was rushed to the Government Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, in an auto-rickshaw. The motorcyclist also accompanied them to the hospital but allegedly left after some time without informing them, he added. The doctors examined Sushila and referred her to the PGI, Chandigarh. Sachin said upon reaching the PGI Emergency, the doctors declared her dead on arrival. The body was brought back to the mortuary of the Government Hospital, Sector 6, here. SPEEDING TO BLAME Sushila was crossing the road on foot when a speeding motorcycle coming from Old Panchkula allegedly hit her. She passed out and was rushed to the Government Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, in an autorickshaw. Two persons, who were riding the bike, also accompanied them to the hospital but allegedly left after some time without informing them, said the complainant. Sachin, a resident of Badi Kundi Ahluwalia Complex, Sector 20, Panchkula, said he and his family had been living in Kundi village for the past two years. His grandmother also lived in the same building with her son Devendra and other family members. The police recorded Sachin’s statement at the mortuary, after which a case was registered under Sections 106 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the unidentified motorcyclist.
