The accused have been identified as Kiranjit Singh and Jaskaran of Mullewal Aranyee village. Anju Bala of Guru Teg Bahadar Nagar complained to the police that the accused snatched her earrings on March 10. Meanwhile, in another case, the police booked miscreants for snatching Jaswindar Kaur's earrings. OC In 6 months, another case of ammonia gas leak in city No casualty reported |Admn teams rush to illegal ice factory Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 13 Nearly six months after a life was lost in the ammonia gas leak incident that had occurred in an ice factory near the Domoria overbridge, another similar incident took place this afternoon. The incident took place at Kuldeep Ice Factory in residential colony Anand Nagar here. Thankfully, there was no casualty reported today. Residents of the locality had raised the alarm after which officials from all departments concerned, including the SDO, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Deputy Director, Factories, and the police, reached the spot. A fire tender too had been immediately pressed into service. Manvinder S Hundal, SDO, PPCB, “We already had been getting complaints about the factory from the residents. The area will be cordoned off, all cylinders will be completely emptied and gas shall be dissolved and disposed of scientifically”. The city police teams helped the officials in the process. WOMAN BOOKED FOR CHEATING Phagwara: The police have booked a woman on charges of cheating and breach of trust. The accused Kamaljeet Kaur is a resident of Jai Colony, Shahkot. Sukhdev Singh of the same locality complained to the police that the accused signed an agreement to sell a house for Rs 15 lakh in 2023 and received Rs 13 lakh advance but sold the house to other and cheated him. The police have registered a case against three accused. Assistant Superintendent Sukhwinder Ram posted in the Central Jail said during the raid conducted in barrack number 14, the jail administration had recovered a mobile from undertrial David, resident of Alowal. While three mobile phones of different types hidden in the bathroom wall of barrack number 17 of the jail had been recovered. He said undertrial Zayed Mohammad, lodged in barrack number 17, used the phone. After getting information, the mobile phone had been recovered from him. He said in another case, two mobile phones hidden in the bathroom of barrack number 22 have been recovered. As students played Holi on the campuses as the day got over, the authorities laid stress on the use of herbal colours and flowers to enjoy the ‘festival of colours’. Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised a Tilak Holi with a message of keeping environment clean. The principal said such festivities give a break from the monotonous routine and MC recovers ~41.5 cr property tax so far Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 13 The property tax department of the Municipal Corporation has recovered Rs 41.5 crore until now while the target is Rs 50 crore for this financial year. Now, the department is regularly sending the SMSes to the defaulters and ads will also be run asking people to pay property tax. “We will make an appeal to the public to deposit the tax,” Superintendent of the department Bhupinder Singh said. From April 1, 20 per cent penalty will be imposed and 1.5 per cent interest will be charged every month, he said. Under the procedure for taking action against the default- ers, inspectors of the wing visit different areas to recover the tax. The defaulters are served notices under Section 112 of the Municipal Corporation Act. They have to file a reply within three days, failing which another notice of sealing the property will be served under Section 138 of the Act. During the last financial year, the target was Rs 43 crore and the recovery was Rs 41 crore. The One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for the recovery of tax also did not evoke good response. Phagwara, March 13 In a surprising development, 15 proposals on the agenda were declared as passed in about 15 minutes during a noisy protest by the Congress and its councillors in the first general meeting of the newly elected Municipal Corporation, Phagwara. Mayor Ram Pal Uppal presided over the meeting. Dr Akshita Gupta, Municipal Commissioner, was also present in the meeting held on Thursday evening. The Congress councillors attended the meeting after submitting a protest letter to the Municipal Commissioner that the Mayor’s election was held in an unconstitutional way on February 1. The matter is pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Despite this, a meeting of the MC was called today. The High Court had fixed the next date of hearing on March 19 and The meeting was held to pass 15 proposals of the Municipal Corporation, including providing sweepers, construction work related to Banga road, installation of LED lights in Zone A, B , C and D of Phagwara, new LED lights in ward 12, 18 and 45; formation of Finance and Contract Committee; GID-based survey of property and renovation of the Mayor’s residence, etc. demanded the videography of mayoral elections and the report of the observer. Congress councillors raised hands in favour of their nominated members for the committee. As soon as AAP councillors raised a hue and cry in the meeting, Mayor Uppal announced that all 15 proposals stood passed without taking any councillor into confidence. No voting was done for the proposals passed in the meeting by the Mayor. Within 10-15 minutes, the meeting ended and the Mayor left. Congress councillors, including Sanjeev Bugga, Sushil Maini, Jatinder Virmani, raised slogans against the AAP and Mayor Uppal after coming out of the meeting.
