The accused had been identified as Nishan, a resident of Employees Colony, Shahkot, Surindar Kumar and Lovely, of the same locality. Harjinder Singh of Bajwa Kalan village complained to the police that he had paid Rs 6 lakh to the accused for facilitating his son's migration abroad. However, neither was he sent abroad, nor did he get the money back. OC 8 BOOKED FOR ASSAULT Phagwara: The police have booked eight villagers, including two women, on the charge of assaulting a co-villager. Harpreet Singh complained to the police that the accused waylaid him on June 17 and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, seriously injuring him on June 17. The members, including Mayor Vaneet Dhir, Senior Deputy Mayor Balbir Dhillon, Deputy Mayor Malkit Singh, councillors Kavita Seth and Hitesh Grewal, will finalise the contracts for development works to the tune of Rs 6.5 crore at a meeting. The main contract to be awarded is regarding the repair and maintenance of 631 tubewells in the city areas for the next one year. The tenders for the work had been floated in Vidhan Sabha segmentwise. Kavita had said in her statement that she, along with her family, was in the house on June 18 when they heard firing outside and her husband hurriedly went to the main gate and she followed. Hoshiarpur, June 20 The police have solved the case of Aryan's murder in village Shahpur Ghat within 24 hours, arresting three accused, including the deceased's maternal aunt's son. The motive behind the murder was resentment over Aryan leaving a job and planning to open his own shop, allegedly affecting the business of a relative. SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said during a press conference here today that a special investigation team was formed under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Dr Mukesh Kumar to crack the blind murder case. According to reports, the injured have been identified as Kamaljit Kaur, and Satya, both residents of Jamalpur. The incident occurred when a speeding car rammed into their scooter from behind. Kamaljit Kaur suffered a major head injury and a fractured shoulder, while Satya also received a severe head injury and a fractured leg. — OC Body of youth recovered from Kandi canal Hoshiarpur, June 20 The body of a 24-year-old youth Harpreet Singh, who drowned in the Kandi canal on June 19, was recovered on Friday. Talwara SHO Satpal Singh said the youth was bathing in the canal near Datarpur when he drowned. A search operation was launched immediately after the incident, but the body was finally recovered today. The youth’s family members had contacted the police and informed them that Harpreet Singh, a resident of Banka village in Tarn Taran district, had gone missing while bathing in the canal. Harpreet worked at a finance company. He along with five other friends had come to the area for work. On Thursday, due to the intense heat, they decided to bathe in the canal, but Harpreet drowned.
