Investigating officer (IO) Kashmir Singh said the suspects had been identified as Nirwair Singh, a resident of Chak Wadala village and his wife Paramjit Kaur. Parmod Singh, a resident of the same village, told the police that the suspects barged into his house on April 15, 2023, and attacked his wife Gitta. When he tried to intervene, the suspects attacked him also. A case under Sections 323, 325 and 34 of the IPC has been registered. OC BIKERS FLEE WITH ~80,000, BOOKED Phagwara: Two unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched ~80,000 cash from a resident. The victim, Swaran Singh, told the police that while he was returning home on the evening of March 8, two motorcycleborne miscreants waylaid him at Mao Sahib village around 6 pm. They snatched ~80,000 from him and fled the spot. Further investigations are on in the case. The elections will be held from 8 am to 5 pm tomorrow. The DC today took stock of the arrangements made by the administration for the elections wherein he issued necessary directions to polling staff. Likewise, voters would have to obtain photo identification slips available in parking areas through RO teams and no other identification slip would be admissible. He said candidates would be confined to their enclosures where they would get live feed of all eight polling stations. However, candidates with the permission of the RO might be allowed to have a round of the OPEN (2024-25) polling area, but they would not be allowed to sit in the polling booth or polling area. Similarly, security personnel attached to any person (except Z+ security case) would not be allowed in the premises. Sarangal also appealed to candidates and their supporters to strictly follow the code of conduct laid down by the returning officer to ensure smooth conduct of polls. NATIONAL LOK ADALAT Jalandhar, March 9 The District Services Legal Authority held a Lok Adalat here today. As many as 38,497 cases were disposed of on the occasion and award of ~40.25 crore was passed by various Benches. Three of family booked for assaulting cop Our Correspondent Phagwara, March 9 The Bilga police have booked three members of a family, including a woman, on the charge of assaulting a police officer. Investigating officer Avtar Lal said the suspects had been identified as Manpreet Singh, a resident of Kadian village, his brother Manjinder Singh and his mother Sarabjit Kaur. In his statement, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurdev Singh, a resident of Bhadma village falling under the Shahkot police station, said a police party went to arrest Manpreet Singh in a case of assault registered in 2020. When the police reached the home of the suspect, his brother Manjinder, alias Ramna, attacked him with a sword. His mother Sarabjit helped Ramna flee. A case under Sections 307, 186, 333, 353, 224, 225, 324, 506 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the suspects. No arrests have been made so far.
