There was injury marks on his face and arms, alleged to be done by a sharp-edged weapon. The police have taken the body into their custody and started investigations. Harpal Singh, Station House Officer, Ajnala police station, said a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered in this connection. Nirmal Singh, brother of the victim, said his brother had gone to a religious dera at his in-laws’ village Dalla Rajputa on Thursday. He said he did not return till late in the evening and his mobile phone was also switched off. He said when they contacted his father-in-law Harmesh Singh, he told that Amarjit did not reach there. He said they started looking for him and were going towards the Baba Bohar Shan dera at Dalla Rajputa village. They were identified as Meharpreet Singh, alias Tinda aka Rajat, and Gurlal Singh of the same village. The police have recovered the bike used in the crime from their possession. Kanwaljit succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital here on March 15 following which the police had added murder charge to the case. As per an initial probe, both were accomplices of Manjinder Singh of the same village who had planned the murder. The police booked her husband Jagdeep Singh, fatherin-law Mukhtyar Singh and mother-in-law Paramjit Kaur on the charge of dowry death. Complainant Harbans Singh of Begowal, Khanna, told the police that his daughter got married to Sandeep in December 2023. Soon after marriage, the suspects started harassing her for dowry. On March 22, Sandeep called him and informed that her husband and in-laws were harassing her for dowry. She later went to her room and hanged herself to death. ASI Gurmeet Singh said a case has been registered.
