The victim, Vijay Singh, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital here, told the police that two miscreants entered his shop on the pretext of purchasing a tube for their motorcycle and attacked him with a sharp weapon. The assailants managed to escape with the snatched money, leaving him behind in a pool of blood. The police have registered a case under Sections 323, 452, 379-B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the suspects. The police arrested one of the suspects, identified as Satbir Singh, a resident of CRP Colony, while his accomplice Sunny is still at large. OC BIKERS FLEE WITH WOMAN’S CHAIN Phagwara: Two unidentified miscreants snatched a gold chain from a woman near Sukhchain Nagar here on Tuesday night. The victim, Harpreet Kaur, told the police that while she was going on her scooter, two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched her gold chain. They fled the spot after committing the crime. The police have registered a case under Section 379-B of the IPC. OC THEFT REPORTED AT FURNITURE SHOP Phagwara: A furniture shop was reportedly burgled at Khurampur village near here on Tuesday night. Shop owner Lal Chand told the police that the suspects entered the shop after breaking open the locks and decamped with valuable wood and aluminium goods from the shop. The police have registered a case under Sections 380 and 457 of the IPC. OC MAN KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENT Hoshiarpur: A man died in a road accident. According to information, Harpreet Kaur, a resident of Saila Kalan, told the police that her father was returning from a religious place in Bhikhowal. When he reached Naloiyan Chowk, a canter hit his father, leading to his death. The driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind. The Model Town police have registered a case and started further investigations into the matter. The complex hosts numerous media houses, banks, private offices and dining outlets, attracting hundreds of visitors daily. However, officials seem indifferent to addressing the sanitation problem within the premises. Expressing their dismay, several SCO owners highlighted the recurring issue of rag-pickers dumping waste on vacant plots within the complex. “Despite our efforts to report this problem to the authorities concerned, it persists,” they lamented. Moreover, they pointed out rampant encroachments by car dealers and the malfunctioning street lights, all of which they say, have been repeatedly brought to the attention of the Municipal Corporation officials, but to no avail. They also emphasised that the issue extends beyond the boundaries of the PUDA complex, affecting the surrounding areas as well. They highlighted that even the road leading to the District Administrative Complex presents a stark contrast, contradicting the claims of the civic body’s ‘Clean and Green Jalandhar’ initiative. Visitors to the PUDA complex expressed frustration over both the poor sanitation and parking problems caused by car dealers occupying much of the available space, including office parking lots. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. A short-circuit is stated to be the reason behind the fire. An official said tracksuits were kept in the showroom, which is situated in a narrow street. The official said two-three fire incidents were being reported every day. Accompanied by SSP Vatsala Gupta and other officials, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal visited Guru Nanak Prem Karamsar College, Nadala, to oversee poll preparations and arrangements. He said elaborate arrangements had been put in place at 791 polling stations across the district. He pointed out that ade- quate arrangements should be made at polling stations to facilitate voters, especially senior citizens and PWDs. He also enquired about EVM storage, rehearsal for polling parties and other arrangements. Jalandhar, April 10 Even as it has been two weeks since Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and Lok Sabha MP Sushil Rinku had moved to the BJP, the ruling AAP is yet to find a suitable replacement. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has already said that Jalandhar and Sangrur would be the two seats which AAP aspires to definitely win back. This statement of Mann has put all more pressure on the party leadership to find a winnable candidate from this reserved seat. Since March 27 when Rinku and MLA Sheetal Angural, both Dalit leaders, quit AAP to join the BJP, the AAP has been holding regular discussions with party leaders and workers on suitable candidate from Jalandhar. All those names that cropped up earlier, including those of minister Balkar Singh, could not get finalised. The AAP has been on a hunt from other parties too, but a final call is yet to be taken. The party also remains under huge pressure from its workers to field an internal candidate and not import one from another party, which now seems to be the only possibility. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today announced that the wait could be longer by another six days. Officials said AAP leaders did not take any permission for the rally. AAP youth leaders, led by Jalandhar North halka in charge Dinesh Dhall, took out a bike rally here yesterday.
