A case was registered under various sections of the IPC against them on Tuesday. The suspects have been identified as Harshpreet Singh, alias Harsh, a resident of Hassi Kalan, Vinod Kumar, alias Bunty, a resident of Noorwala, and Joban, a resident of New Amar Nagar. The complainant told the police that on the intervening night of April 21 and 22, his father had to leave for Delhi for some work. Around 1.30 am, when his father was keeping his luggage in the car, the three youths came and attacked him. After his sister informed him about the assault on their father, he, along with his mother, rushed to the scene. “When I intervened in the matter to save my father, the assailants attacked me and my parents with sticks. It was only when we raised the alarm and local residents gathered at the place, the trio fled in their cars. During checking of CCTV cameras, we came to know that the suspects came in two cars and the footage was also provided to the police,” the complainant alleged. Punjab has received as many as 1,860 complaints, alleging violations of the model code of conduct (MCC) imposed by the commission since the announcement of the General Election to the 18th Lok Sabha across the country on March 16, of which at least 1,472 have been acted upon and resolved within the fixed time frame, with almost 42 per cent of them decided in less than 100 minutes, official figures have revealed. When it comes to seeking and grant of poll-related permissions of different nature in the state, maximum permissions have been sought for and accorded instantly in Ludhiana district. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C told The Tribune on Wednesday that as many as 1,860 poll code violation complaints of various nature have been received across 23 districts in the state from March 16 to April 23, of which 1,472 DC Sakshi Sawhney and other officials meet political leaders, urging them to follow rules laid down by the ECI, in Ludhiana. While 371 complaints have been dropped at different levels of investigation after being found invalid, the remaining 17 cases were being probed and in the process of being acted upon and resolved shortly. The CEO said all district electoral officers (DEOs), which the Deputy Commissioners concerned had been assigned, have been asked to act upon all poll code violation complaints and grant the election-related permissions, which were found genuine and eligible as per the ECI guidelines, within the minimum possible time. “With 94 per cent accuracy rate of the total poll code violation complaints received so far, all complaints have been acted upon and resolved within the fixed time frame and not even a single complaint was left pending beyond the permissible time limit in any part of the state so far,” Sibin said. Three of vehicle thieves’ gang arrested, 12 bikes recovered Tribune News Service Ludhiana, April 24 The Police Division 8 today claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle thieves and arrested three of its members. The police also recovered 12 stolen motorcycles from them. The suspects have been identified as Vikas, alias Bobby, a resident of Aman Nagar, and Kaka Mohammad and Mohd Arif from Bada Pind. The SHO, Police Division 8, Inspector Harshpal Singh, said a tip-off was received that the suspects were running a gang of thieves. After registering a case against them, their whereabouts were verified and the suspects were arrested. The suspects duped the complainant of Rs 4 lakh on the pretext giving multiple returns by investing his money in the share market. The suspects have been identified as Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Lud- hiana, Amandeep Singh of Bhola Colony and Sanjay Ahuja, a resident of Urban Estate, Dugri. The complainant, Jaipal, a resident of Dugri, told the police that the suspects had promised high returns on his investment in the share market but he was not aware about their intentions. Believing in their investment proposals, he gave them Rs 4 lakh and the amount was deposited in different bank accounts provided by the trio. However, they failed to give any returns to him. In fact, they also refused to return the money, the complainant said, adding that afterwards, he lodged a police complaint and following the investigation, the police registered a case against them on Tuesday. Investigating officer Gaurav Chandel said further probe was on in the case. Tribune News Service Ludhiana, April 24 A woman, who runs a grocery shop on the Rahon road here, died after a truck rammed into her Activa scooter on Wednesday. Rear tyres of the vehicle crushed the woman’s head and she died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Suman, a resident of the Rahon road area. She was the mother of two children. Her brother-in-law Ashwani said the victim runs a grocery shop. As usual, she was going to the shop in the morning. On the way, the truck hit her scooter from the rear and crushed her head. The entire incident was captured in CCTV cameras installed in the area. ASI Gurmukh Singh said a case was being registered and investigation was on to nab the truck driver. She was allegedly disturbed due to her husband’s illicit relationship. On the complaint of Sham Singh, father of the deceased, Dalbir Kaur, a resident of Ajit Nagar in Faridkot, the police registered a case of abetment to suicide and criminal conspiracy against her husband Navtej Singh, alias Goldy, his mother Paramjit Kaur and Charanjit Kaur, his girlfriend. In a complaint given to the police, Sham Singh said a few years ago, his daughter Dalbir Kaur got married to Navtej. He alleged that his son-inlaw had an illicit relationship with Charanjit Kaur, who was working at his office. When the victim came to know about it, she got upset. The complainant said on April 21, his grandson called him and told that his mother fainted and was taken to a hospital for treatment. His son Harsimrat Singh went to the hospital and was shocked to know that Dalbir Kaur had already breathed her last. “My daughter was upset over the illicit relationship of her husband and when she opposed the same, her mother-in-law Paramjit Kaur, instead of sorting out the issue, beaten her up. My daughter was disturbed due to her husband’s illicit affair and her physical torture by mother-in-law due to which she decided to take the extreme step. Doraha, April 24 Under the special campaign against drug trafficking and other crimes initiated by the Khanna police, the Doraha police have arrested two carborne youngsters and seized 100 gm of heroin from them. Payal DSP Nikhil Garg said the police team, headed by ASI Hardam Singh, arrested two car-borne youths and seized 100 gm of heroin from them during the search on the Kaddon road. They had parked their cars near Kulvir Palace on the road and were questioned on the basis of suspicion. “The investigation is on and we are expecting major disclosures from them,” he said. The accident occurred when the victim was helping the bus driver to park the vehicle inside the bus stand. The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Sharma, a resident of Nepal. Amarjit Singh, in-charge of the bus stand police post, said Rakesh was working as a helper in a private bus company. On Wednesday, he was helping the driver to park the bus at a right spot while standing behind the vehicle but it rammed into another bus parked in the rear of the vehicle due to which the helper got sandwiched between the two vehicles and died on the spot. The investigating officer said during preliminary investigation, it came to light that the private bus driver was at fault and action would be taken against him.
