The incident occurred at migrants’ quarters, located in Fauji Colony, Sherpur. After committing the crime, the suspect fled the scene. As per information, when the child was playing outside the quarters, the suspect took her to his room. After the sexual assault, he took the girl to the third floor of the building and threw her from there. The girl was thrown on the rear of the factory adjoining the migrants’ quarters. As per information, two youths came to the dairy and assaulted it’s owner and looted cash and a silver bracelet from him and fled the scene. Sarwan Singh (70), a resi- dent of Bonkar Gujran village, said he was retired from the Army. He has two children, one is working abroad and the other one is working with the Police Department. He runs a dairy business at his village. The victim said on the evening of October 5, two youths came to his dairy and started misbehaving with him. When he protested their move, the suspects looted Rs 15,500 in cash and a 5-tola silver bracelet from him by pointing a sharp weapon at him. As he raised the alarm, his daughter-in-law reached the dairy. He tried to save his life by entering his house, located in the rear of the dairy. The complainant said the robbers also took away a Bajaj Discover motorcycle parked near his dairy. After the incident, he had informed the police and a case was registered against the miscreants. ASI Gurmeet Singh from the Koom Kalan police station said a case was registered and a probe was on to nab the suspects. — TNS Health Dept crack down on bakery; samples collected, challan issued It was ‘using’ rotten eggs for preparing fruit cakes under unhygienic conditions Manav Mander Tribune News Service Ludhiana, October 8 The Health Department today conducted a significant crackdown on a bakery which was allegedly using rotten eggs for preparing fruit cakes. A raid was conducted on the directions of Civil Surgeon Pardeep Mohindra under the supervision of District Health Officer Amarjeet Kaur. Dr Amarjeet Kaur said they got a tip-off regarding Nagina Bakery, located on Tajpur Road, after which a raid was conducted on the bakery. “The bakery owner was bringing cracked and rotten eggs from the market and storing the pulp of the same in large plastic containers in freezer and using them in the preparation of fruit cakes,” she said. The bakery was running under unhygienic conditions and no cleanliness was maintained by the owner. Noor Ali Islam, owner of Nagina Bakery, said he buys cracked eggs from the market. “I buy eggs that are cracked, break them in large containers and store them in bakery freezer,” he said. Cakes prepared by the bakery are supplied not only across Ludhiana but Health Department officials during the raid at the bakery on Tajpur Road in Ludhiana. The suspects have been identified as Ajit Singh (35), Dirender Singh (42) and Bhunwar Passi (62), all residents of Bihar. Ajit and Dirender are farmers while Bhunwar is a vegetable vendor. With the festival and wedding season are on, a lot of floral waste gets collected, mainly from religious sites, which is mostly biodegradable and often ends up in landfills or water bodies, causing health hazards and harming aquatic life. This festival season, under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the MC is planning to set up a plant for converting floral waste into incense sticks. The aim is to set up a plant near the Jamalpur dump from where floral waste will be segregated and processed in the plant. Besides the flowers, coconut waste is another item The MC is putting efforts to make the plan work and formed a committee to oversee it. The assessment of floral waste at religious places and marriage palaces is being done so that flowers reach the processing plant. It is also planning to launch a helpline number on which people can make a call and get the floral and coconut waste lifted. He said the MC had contacted one person from Ujjain for the purpose who would be given a shed for carrying the work, electricity connection and floral waste. “The final product prepared will be sold by him. The future of the project depends upon the assessment of floral waste we will be able to collect on a daily basis,” Kanwar said. He said the floral waste sector in the country was experiencing new growth. Besides reusing waste and diverting it from dumpsites, it is also helping in environmental preservation. Social entrepreneurs are also stepping in to recycle flowers to valuable products such as organic compost, soaps, candles and incense sticks. Meenakshi, an art and craft lover, collects floral waste from a temple near her house and use it on candles and also preserve flowers with resin art. “Now, my friends are asking me to prepare decorative pieces using fresh and dried flowers for their special occasions,” she said. Tribune News Service Ludhiana, October 8 The Police Division 6 yesterday registered a case against a man who allegedly sodomised a 14-year-old boy at Partap Chowk here. A case was registered on the complaint of the mother of the victim. The suspect was identified as Manoj Kumar, alias Manjit Singh, a resident of Partap Nagar. The complainant told the police that Manoj, who was a roadside vendor, took her son along with him on September 26 for offering him work at his vend. Instead of giving him any work, the suspect took the boy to some isolated place near the vend and sodomised him. After committing the crime, the man told the victim not to reveal about the matter to anyone, else he had to face dire consequences. The woman said after the incident, her son informed her about the sexual assault and a complaint was lodged in this regard. After days of probe, the police on Monday registered a case against the man. Investigating officer ASI Joginder Singh said further investigation was launched in the case and the suspect would be arrested soon.
