Reason: They faced floods during the monsoon season for the past two consecutive years due to which they had to bear huge crop losses. Once bitter twice shy, the villagers remain in panic. They maintained though the district administration had put sandbags along the Dhussi bandh and arranged boats, there was fear among the villagers that in case of floods, they would again face difficult times and monetary losses. Buta Singh Baba from Isapur village told The Tribunethat no downpour was witnessed in the area so far but the residents were in panic all the time during the rainy season. “For the past two years, we are facing difficult times due to heavy rains. Accompanied by key officials, he visited Garhi Fazil, Garhi Sheru, Dhullewal Complex, Kanniyan Hussaini, Khaira Bet and Mattewara Complex. He said works of flood protection measures, including stud placement, revetment and elevation of the Dhussi bandh, were completed. He directed officials to maintain vigilance to prevent any untoward incident during the monsoon season and conduct regular maintenance checks at the strengthened infrastructure. Jain emphasised that the administration was fully equipped to handle floodlike situations triggered by heavy rainfall or increased river flow. The Police Division 6 on Thursday registered a case based on the statement of Jaish Ram, father of Monu Kumar (24), the deceased, who was a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, UP . The suspects were identified as Kanti, Pintu and Vikas. SHO Kulwant Kaur stated that Jaish Ram said on July 8 that he received a call from the police informing him about his son’s death. On enquiring the matter, the victim’s father learnt that the youths had given him excessive amount of liquor to consume. It also came to light that after his death, his friends abandoned the body near Pratap Chowk and fled the place. — TNS Ludhiana, July 11 A man was murdered by two unidentified scooter-borne persons at Gujjar Bhawan, Meharban, on Thursday night. Earlier, his family alleged that the victim was murdered by the suspects after snatching Rs 1,200 and a mobile phone from him but later they changed their statement, stating that nothing was snatched by them. By the time the victim’s wife and children reached him after hearing his screams, the miscreants fled the scene. With the help of the people, the injured person was taken to the Civil Hospital but he was declared brought dead by doctors. The deceased was identified as Tilakraj. SHO, Meharban police station, inspector Paramdip Singh, said Danish, son of the deceased, his pocket. He told the police that he mentioned snatching as the cause behind the crime on the basis of the statement of the bystanders, the SHO said. He said the suspects had been taking a round outside the house of the victim. When they saw him alone, the youths came and after stabbing him, they fled the scene. It could be possible that the suspects had come to commit murder only. However, the family was not aware about the reason behind the crime. “The police got a CCTV footage of the suspects and efforts are on to nab them. After their arrest, the cause behind the murder can be ascertained,” the SHO said. He said a murder case was registered against the suspects and they would be held soon. — TNS Teen stripped, beaten up, filmed at hotel by friends; 1 held Ludhiana, July 11 Three friends of a teenager stripped him, beaten him up and made an obscene video in a hotel room near bus stand here. They also pulled his hair and humiliated him. The victim’s father had lodged a complaint against the three suspects at the Police Division 5, following which a case was registered against the suspects. Later, one of them was arrested by the police. The victim’s father told the police that his 16-year-old son had gone to buy clothes in Chaura Bazaar on July 7 with his friends Heera Singh, Abhijit and Jassi, all residents of Jagraon. As it was night, they booked a room in Hotel Leaf near the bus stand. At night, the three youths did obscene acts with his son. His clothes were removed and he was pulled from his hair. They also made a video after stripping his son. He had requested them not to harass him but the latter did not budge and continued to torture his son. The Police Division 5 on Thursday arrested one youth, Abhijit, and conducted raids to nab the other suspects. A case under various sections of the BNS was registered. — TNS
