TNS MAN DIES IN ROAD MISHAP Ludhiana : The Ladhowal police have registered a case against an unidentified truck driver on the basis of a complaint filed by Sunil Kumar of Bagga Khurd village in Ladhowal. As per the complainant, he and his cousin Sukhvir Singh were going on a motorcycle and when they reached near the main GT Road at Kadiyan village, the truck driver going in front of them applied sudden brakes of the vehicle due to which the bike rammed into the vehicle. Sunil and his cousin suffered injuries. Afterwards, the truck driver fled the scene. The complainant and his cousin were taken to the CMCH where the latter breathed his last. Police officials, however, had a miraculous escape. The suspect was taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. He was identified as Amit Kumar, a resident of the Tibba Road area. Two cases of robbery are already registered against him. ADCP (Crime) Amandeep Brar, who reached the scene, said on Thursday night around 11.30 pm, ASI Harjaap Singh of CIA-1 along with a police team had laid a naka on the Jassian road to keep a check over criminal elements. On suspicion, a person riding a Honda Activa scooter was signalled to stop for checking. Before the police could ask anything to the man, he opened fire at the police team. After which cross fires were exchanged. The miscreant was shot on his leg. A total of three shots were fired, of which two shots were fired by the suspect at the police while one was fired by the police team. When the bullet hit the suspect’s leg, he lost control over his scooter and fell on the road. He fired two shots after which, the police caught him. After receiving the bullet injury, the miscreant started screaming. The suspect was given first aid and sent to a hospital for treatment. The forensic team also reached the scene and collected empty bullet shells and cartridges for investigation, the ADCP said. Brar said the police also recovered an illegal .32 bore pistol from the scene. The criminal will be questioned as from where he brought the illegal weapon and if he had used the same while committing other crimes. Police officials said two cases were registered against the man and now, his police remand would be obtained to bust the entire gang. The role of the suspect in past robberies and loot incidents will also be checked. Past incidents On September 12, 2024, the Ludhiana police arrested a drug pedder, his brother and father after an exchange of fire in Mehmoodpura village on the Dhandran road. While the key accused’s brother was injured in the retaliatory firing by the police, a policeman sustained stab injury on the head. On June 22, 2024, two persons wanted in a case of attempt-to-murder were arrested after an exchange of fire in Ram Enclave of the Chuharpur area. One bullet hit the police vehicle. Both suspects suffered bullet injuries on their legs, following which they were apprehended. On December 13, 2023, the Ludhiana police eliminated gangster Sukhdev Singh, alias Vicky, in a police encounter on the KoharaMachhiwara road at Panjeta village. The gangster was facing 28 criminal cases. On November 29, 2023, two gangsters, Sanjeev Kumar and Shubham Gopi, wanted in the Sambhav Jain kidnapping case, were killed during an exchange of fire between them and the Ludhiana police on the Tibba bridge. NGT gives interim relief to dyeing industry Shivani Bhakoo Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 8 In a major relief given to the Punjab Dyers Association, the National Green Tribunal has asked the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) not to take any action against CETPs, at least till December 2, the next date of hearing of the case between the association and the PPCB. The orders came following an application moved by the association, praying for an interim relief from the NGT. Bobby Jindal, president of RELIEF TILL NEXT DATE OF HEARING Bobby Jindal, president of the Punjab Dyers Association, said the PPCB had directed the CETPs on Tajpur Road and Focal Point not to discharge liquid into the nullah since these did not fulfil the norms. “Against this order of the PPCB, we had moved the NGT for relief. The NGT provided us relief till the next date of the hearing of the case in December,” he said. the association, said: “The application moved by the dyeing industry was against the impugned orders of the PPCB about not discharging treated water through CETPs into the Buddha Nullah”. The NGT directed that action would result in shutting down all industries con- nected with the CETPs in question. Considering circumstances of the case, the NGT in its order dated November 4 directed that till the next date of hearing, no coercive steps in pursuant to the impugned order will be taken subject to compliance of the environmental norms Trader, biz partner shot at; family dispute cause behind attack Ludhiana, November 8 A shopkeeper, Gurvinder Singh, alias Prinkle, and his business partner Navjit Kaur were shot at by four masked assailants at Khud Mohalla near the CMC chowk on Friday evening. The assailants had barged into the shop and rained bullets on them. Gangster Rishab Benipal, alias Nannu, with whom Prinkle has an old enmity, and his aides had attacked them. After the incident, both injured were taken to the CMCH and they were said to be out of danger. The incident occurred around 6pm when Prinkle along with Navjit Kaur were sitting in their shop ‘Prinkle Shoe Hut’ when four masked men came on two motorcycles and opened fire. Prinkle had identified the assailants as gangster Rishab Benipal, alias Nannu, and members of his in-laws’ family. Prinkle’s wife had also recently left him and started staying with her parents due to the ongoing tussle. Both victim and the gangster had been threatening each other for long and it led to the incident,” added Taja,” Teja said. Asked to stop bursting crackers, brothers sever shopkeeper’s thumb Ludhiana, November 8 A gruesome incident occurred in Machhiwara on Wednesday when two brothers, Sukhwinderpal Singh and Amarjit, allegedly assaulted a grocer, Harjinder Kumar, with an axe, severing his thumb. The altercation began when the shopkeeper requested Sukhwinderpal to stop bursting firecrackers outside his shop. According to Harjinder’s complaint, Sukhwinderpal was intoxicated and had earlier blocked a car passing from the area. Afterwards, Sukhwinderpal started bursting crackers. When the grocer intervened in the matter, it led to a confrontation. Later, Amarjit came to the spot and they began causing a disturbance. The victim alleged that Amarjit wielded an axe and attacked him. The police registered a FIR against the brothers following Harjinder’s complaint. Elderly woman’s gold earrings snatched in Samrala Ludhiana, November 8 A daylight snatching occurred on Guru Nanak Road in Samrala, leaving an elderly woman traumatised and her nephew injured. Paramjit Kaur, the victim, said on Thursday, a youth came on a motorcycle, inquiring about someone’s residence. He engaged her in a conversation, mentioning local acquaintances and asked for water. After drinking water, he briefly stepped away. He returned to her to discuss her health issues and accepting a cup of tea. As he was leaving, the suspect snatched her gold earrings and fled the scene. Her nephew Harjeet Singh chased him but the suspect hit him with a sharp object, injuring the latter’s eye. CCTV cameras captured the perpetrator escaping on his motorcycle. — TNS Woman, paramour kill husband, arrested Ludhiana, November 8 A woman along with her paramour and family members killed her husband with a sharp weapon on Thursday at Gill village. The suspects threw the husband’s body in a vacant plot on the Malerkotla road. A passer-by saw the body and raised the alarm. Officials from the Sadar police station reached the scene and shifted the body to the Civil Hospital late on Thursday night. The suspects have been identified as deceased’s wife Punita Mishra, her paramour Rajan Shukla and her sisters Dolly Mishra and Gayatri Mishra and Varinder Kumar. Initial investigation revealed that the deceased, 35-year-old Pawan Kumar, was a driver by profession. He hails from Udaipur village in Balrampur district of UP. He was staying in a rented house on Gill Road here. The Victim murdered for objecting to illicit relationship police took the deceased’s wife into custody after examining a CCTV footage of the crime scene. They are also questioning neighbours of the victim. During investigation, it was revealed that the deceased’s wife, Punita Mishra, was having an illicit relationship with Rajan and her husband had been objecting to the affair. As a result, his wife, along with her family members and paramour, decided to kill him with a sharp weapon. After committing the murder, the suspects dumped the body of the deceased in a vacant plot and fled the scene. ASI Tarsem Singh said all five suspects were arrested by the police. — TNS Thieves steal ~90L, 150 gm gold Ludhiana, November 8 A brazen burglary occurred in the Mandeep Nagar area, with unidentified thieves making off with Rs 90 lakh and 150 gm of gold jewellery from a locked house. House owner Simranjit Singh and his family returned to their house to find their main gate unlocked and almirahs ransacked. Simranjit, a veterinary student, reported the incident to the PAU police, stating that he resides with his mother, wid- owed sister, and her two daughters, while his father stays abroad. PAU SHO inspector Rajinderpal Singh confirmed that an FIR was registered and investigators were reviewing the CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the culprits. — TNS
