Those arrested were identified as Sukhraj Singh and Gupreet Singh, alias Golu, residents of Rasulpur Kalan village in Jandiala. The police said two bikeborne youth were signalled to stop at a naka laid at the Chabba bus stop. However, they crossed over the road and tried to flee towards Varpal village. A police party led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Hardeep Singh chased and arrested them. The police said during search, a pistol was recovered from Gurpreet Singh and bullets seized from Sukhraj Singh. Airport road cries for attention Charanjit Singh Teja Tribune News Service Amritsar, November 11 The airport road has been neglected for long. Piles of garbage on footpaths, nonfunctional streetlights and weed growth on the median proves that the authorities concerned are least bothered about the stretch. Despite repeated complaints by residents to departments concerned nothing has changed till date. The road heading from Mirankot Chowk to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport is under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD). The government spent huge funds to beautify the airport road some years ago. Costly palm trees were planted on both sides of the road. The PWD had set weeds on fire which burnt several palm trees in the green belt. The service lane alongside the main road is teeming with potholes and has been encroached. I have asked them several times for proper upkeep of the road, but to no avail. The state government has failed to address the garbage issue in the city.” Over 200 teachers on poll duty, Aujla seeks CM’s intervention Tribune News Service Amritsar, November 11 Member of Parliament (MP) Gurjeet Singh Aujla while addressing a press conference today said over 200 teachers from Amritsar had been deployed on election duty. He said no teacher had taken classes for months’ altogether. “There should be an investigation into why teachers are absent from schools. If they are on election duty then it is the incompetence of the government and the administration. Amritsar, November 11 Member Parliament (MP) Gurjeet Singh Aujla held a review meeting with officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport here today. After meeting, Aujla shared plans to enhance facilities and services at the Airport. He updated officials regarding new developments at the airport. This included long-pending issue of cargo facility for perishable goods which was disrupted due to some technical issues. Aujla announced that a new cargo facility for perishable goods would soon be available at the Amritsar airport. This would help farmers and traders to export their produce without any hindrance, he said. He appealed to farmers and traders to use cargo facility to send their agriculture produce to foreign countries from the Amritsar airport and strengthen the state’s economy. SSP Abhimanyu Rana today said a team of the Punjab Police and the BSF recovered heroin from fields belonging to farmer Kabal Singh, a resident of Dall village. The drone — DJI Mavic 3 Classic — was recovered from fields in Van Tara Singh village. The SSP said drug ped- dlers, who had brought consignment from across the border, must be identified and brought to the book. A case under Sections 10, 11 and 12, Section of the Aircraft Act, and Section 21-C of the NDPS Act was registered by the Khalra police in this connection. Amritsar, November 11 Panic gripped Bhalla Colony in the Chheharta area after two youth fired outside a house yesterday evening. The suspects took away empty shells from the spot after opening fire. The incident was captured in the footage of the CCTV camera installed in the area following which the police identified the suspects. Shiv Darshan Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), denied that it was handiwork of gangsters or their associates. He said the incident was the outcome of personal enmity. According to information, two youth fired several gunshots outside residence of Avdhesh Kumar, a resident at Bhalla Colony. The CCTV footage of the incident soon went viral on social media raising concerns over the law and order situation in the holy city. The ACP said during investigation, the suspects were identified as Mainder Singh and Nikhil Kumar, both residents of Bhalla Colony. They had a dispute with Avdhesh Kumar. The ACP said there was no criminal record of the two youth. The youth could not produce licence or any other document of the weapon, the ACP said. So, they were arrested and a case under the Arms Act was registered against them, he added. The source of the weapon would also be ascertained, the ACP said. Further investigation was in progress in this connection, the ACP said. However, the jeweller got the wind and informed the police which arrived on the spot and nabbed them. Those arrested were identified as Daljit Kaur, Simranjit Singh, a resident of Sunny Enclave on Ram Tirath Road, Navdeep Singh, alias Deep, a resident of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, Sultanwind Road. Complainant Jagtar Singh, a resident of Verka, told the police that he runs a jewellery shop in the name of Brothers Jeweller at Verka bus stop. Jagtar said he along with his son Saminder Singh worked at the shop. He said yesterday evening, a woman along with two youth arrived at their shop and handed over two gold rings in order to sell these. He said on checking, gold rings were found to be fake. Jagtar said the suspects wanted to dupe him. Jagtar informed the police which arrived at his shop. During preliminary probe, the suspects allegedly confessed that they tried to cheat the goldsmith and were arrested after registration of an FIR. — TNS Tarn Taran, November 11 Farmers under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), Punjab, expressing their resentment on the second day burnt effigies of Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu over his remarks against their leaders. Satnam Singh Manochahal, KMSC district president, said the effigies were burnt in Manochahal Kalan, Dhotian, Gohalwar, Bhikhiwind and Tanda villages. Manochahal said Harpreet Singh, Harjinder Singh and Navtej Singh Ekal Gadda were among leaders who addressed farmers during protest at different places. Leaders also stressed on fulfilment of demands of farmers. — OC Tarn Taran, November 11 Residents of Jallewal village nabbed two persons and handed them over to the Sarhali police when they were fleeing after committing crime on Sunday. ASI Gurdial Singh said the suspects were identified as Charanjit Singh Baju and Jobanjit Singh, both residents of Sarhali. The ASI said the suspects had forcibly taken a bike and cash from one Virsa Singh, a resident of Jallewal village. Virsa Singh along with his uncle Surjit Singh were coming back from Naushehra Pannuan when the suspects waylaid them on canal path ahead of Jallewal village. When suspects were fleeing after committing the crime, Virsa Singh and Surjit Singh raised an alarm. Hearing their cries farmers working in nearby fields rushed to the spot and nabbed robbers and handed them over to the police. The suspects were booked under Sections 304 and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in this connection. The suspects were produced in a court today which sent them to two-day police remand.
