Jahani Khatoon, a resident of Chhatta Bazaar, told the police that she was out of the house. Her son was flying kites on roof of the house. During this time, an unknown person stole a full gas cylinder and cash from her room. She said the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the house revealed that the theft was committed by Suraj Nitin Verma, a resident of Mohalla Mishra. The police registered a case and arrested the accused after recovering stolen goods from him. Assistant Superintendent Satnam Singh, Central Jail, said during search of the chakki at a jail's block, a smartphone cellphone along with a SIM hidden in a bathroom wall was recovered. He said in the second case, a cellphone was recovered from undertrial Gurmukh Singh Gera of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, who was lodged in barrack No. 10. In third case, Assistant Superintendent Sukhwinder Singh said during search of the jail’s barrack No. 20, a keypad mobile phone was recovered from dustbin lying there. Further probes have been initiated after registering three cases in this connections. OC Phagwara, January 25 The wait for getting the second Mayor in Phagwara has become somewhat longer. It was in March 2015 that the city had got its first Mayor — BJP’s Arun Khosla. Even though it has been almost five years since his term got over, the city has not been able to get an incumbent for the top post of the civic body. Devdutt Sharma, DSP (City), said a city-resident Paramjit Kaur, along with some of her companions, staged a sit-in in front of the Mini Secretariat here, during which they raised slogans against the police and the Punjab Government. He said the police received information that the woman had posted a video on social media in which threatened to commit suicide at the districtlevel Republic Day function. He said the police immediately reached the spot and took the woman into custody. He said the woman had a property dispute with her husband. The DSP said she posted the video to put pressure on the police to take action in this connection. The DSP said the police had taken the woman into custody and whatever action was necessary, would be taken against her. He said no one would be allowed to disturb peace in the city. Meanwhile, Paramjit Kaur said she had a property dispute with her husband for a long time and had complained about this to the district police chief and other officials, but all her pleas had gone unheard. She demanded justice from the police in this connection. Jalandhar, January 25 The city is all set to celebrate the 76th Republic Day (RDay) with elaborate security arrangements and detailed traffic plans for the event at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium tomorrow. The entire area around the stadium will be cordoned off, with police deploying approximately 2,000 personnel. CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor activities in and around the stadium. Traffic diversions will be in place near the stadium and the surrounding areas from 7am to 2pm tomorrow to facilitate smooth movement of vehicles. Major roads, including those near Samra Chowk, Nakodar Road and Guru Nanak Mission Chowk, will be restricted for entry. Heavy vehicles will be diverted through alternate routes, while light vehicles will have designated pathways via Urban Estate and the nearby areas. Bus parking will be permitted on both sides of the road near Milkbar Chowk and Nakodar Road, while car parking will be allowed along Masand Chowk and Geeta Mandir Chowk. No drone, no fly zone The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Ankur Gupta, has declared the area under the Jalandhar Commissionerate as “No drone and no-fly zone” for January 26. Addressing the media, Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora said a special team led by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sarabjit Rai and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Detective) Parminder Singh was constituted to investigate a robbery case reported on January 15, 2025. Five unidentified men, travelling in a Swift Dzire, allegedly looted Rs 8,000 in cash and a mobile phone at gunpoint from Krishna, a resident of Tajpur in Subhanpur. The police arrested Karanbir Singh, alias Mota, a resident of Pakhopur village in Tarn Taran district. The team recovered a stolen Swift Dzire car without registration plates, an Oppo mobile phone, a country-made pistol (.32 bore) with five live cartridges and a toy pistol from his possession. Toora said during interrogation, the accused disclosed involvement of three accomplices — Vishal, Rajanbir, and Galu — all hailing from Tarn Taran. The gang is believed to have orchestrated a series of high-profile robberies, including snatching of an I-20 car near Boot village and stealing a Swift Dzire car in Kartarpur, Jalandhar; robbery at a medical store in Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran; cash theft in Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar; and theft of parcels in Sohian Jagraon, Ludhiana. Toora said that Inspector Jarnail Singh, in-charge, CIA staff, and ASI Charanjit Singh of the technical cell played a pivotal role in apprehending the accused. The police have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining gang members. — OC Jalandhar, January 25 In a crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, led by Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma, seized 30 boxes of illegal liquor and arrested two persons in separate cases in this connection. Sharing details, CP Swapan Sharma said a team from the Leather Complex police post under the Basti Bawa Khel police station acted on a tipoff about the sale of illegal liquor. The team apprehended Joginderpal, a resident of Tara Singh Avenue, Jalandhar, and confiscated 72 bottles labelled “Royal Stag” and 48 bottles of other brand whiskey. In all, 120 bottles (90 litres) of illegal liquor was seized from Joginderpal. In another operation, the CIA staff arrested Prince Purewal, also a resident of Tara Singh Avenue, following secret information. Twenty boxes of illegal liquor were recovered from his possession.
