The copy of the petition read: “The applicants have specific and well-founded reason to believe that false and fabricated FIRs may have been lodged against them. The AAP and the administration have already been using underhand tactics to threaten and intimidate Congress councillors to join the party, while warning them of serious consequences if they refused. The AAP and the administration in retaliation for the legal action taken by applicants have now escalated tactics.” Meanwhile, AAP MP Raj Kumar Chabbewal denied any force to intimidate Congress councillors. "We know that we will win mayoral election. The Congress is resorting to such measures out of its fear of losing the poll," he said. ~2 lakh, Alto car seized from accused Ashok Kaura Phagwara, January 31 The mayoral election scheduled for tomorrow in Phagwara is getting more intense with each day as all Congress councillors and their family members and supporters have availed anticipatory bail from the Kapurthala sessions court. The Congress councillors had applied for bail on January 28. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Gurmeet Tiwana on Friday allowed them anticipatory bail for a period of one week. The copy of the order reads: “As the applicants are apprehending their arrest in false case because of the political slug fest, they will not be arrested immediately even if FIR is registered against any one of them. A seven day notice will be given to them.” The bail order comes just a day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s rap on the authorities concerned for their failure to conduct the mayoral election on January 25 and appointment of a retired judge Justice Harbans Lal as an independent observer. The Congress councillors led by MLA Balwinder Singh THE COPY OF THE PETITION The applicants have specific and well-founded reason to believe that false and fabricated FIRs may have been lodged against them. The AAP and the administration have already been using underhand tactics to threaten and intimidate Congress councillors to join the party, while warning them of serious consequences if they refused. The AAP and the administration in retaliation for the legal action taken by applicants have now escalated tactics. Dhaliwal have been claiming that the police were pressurising them to either join the AAP or stay away from elections. Since husbands of three Municipal Corporation (MC) councillors were booked last week just a day ahead of the previously convened mayoral election on January 25, they were apprehensive that they would be forced to keep away by use of force again this time. Hence, they moved an appli- cation through Congress legal cell in-charge and advocate Karanjot Singh Jhikka. Additional Public Prosecutor APS Dhillon appeared for the state. ResidentsapproachCMforcompletion of Nurmahal police station building Our Correspondent Phagwara, January 31 Nurmahal residents have approached Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for seeking immediate intervention for completion the construction of the police station building. Dilbag Singh, a social activist, and a resident of Bainapur village, has sent a representation to the CM which stated that in the year 2006, the Nurmahal police station was functioning from a private building. Nurmahal residents donated six kanals and 18 marlas of land from the village for the construction of the police station building. Besides, they contributed Rs 25 lakh towards the construction of the building. Despite these efforts, the project remained incomplete due to bureaucratic delays, primarily inability to transfer the land title to the Police Department. The police station land was legally mutated in the name of common owners. However, the Police Department was yet to finalise the land transfer, which hindered construction of the building. In 2012, the Nurmahal Nagar Council passed a unanimous resolution to transfer land to the Police Department for this purpose. Despite this, the resolution was rejected by the Director, Local Government, and no further action was taken by successive state governments under Chief Ministers Parkash Singh Badal, Capt Amarinder Singh, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Charanjit Singh Channi and Bhagwant Mann.| A local social worker filed a writ petition in the high court in 2012 demanding that the authorities concerned be asked to issue notification under Sections 4 and 6 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, to acquire the land. The then acting Chief Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain dismissed the petition. The delay has left the police station in dire need for essential infrastructure, including barracks for officials, boundary walls, flooring and parking spaces for impounded vehicles. Residents have been making repeated requests to the state government to approve the land transfer and allow completion of the police station building, but their pleas have so far gone unanswered. c m y b Kaur Walia, Pinky Bhatia and Deep Mala, whose husbands were booked by the Phagwara police recently. The victim, who was preparing to travel to Australia, was carrying his passport and Rs 3 lakh in cash. Two individuals in an Alto car (bearing registration number PB02-EQ-3186) threatened the victim and fled with his money and passport. A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had carefully planned the robbery after identifying their target. They had been monitoring the movement of people carrying substantial amount of cash in the area. The Alto car used in the crime was also recovered, which provided additional leads for investigating similar incidents in the region. The arrested accused would be produced in a court and their police remand sought for further investigation. The investigating team believes that their interrogation might lead to recovery of the remaining amount and possibly uncover involvement of the accused in other similar crimes.
