MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said the aim was to get suggestions/inputs from these firms so that proper planning could be done for setting up the plant. SFC Environmental Technologies Limited, ReSustainability Limited (formerly known as Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited) and JITF Urban Infrastructure Limited (part of OP Jindal Group) are the firms that were invited on Friday. Firstly, MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal conduct- MC officals during a field visit to the Jamalpur dumping site in Ludhiana on Friday. ed a meeting with representatives of the firms at the MC’s Zone D office here, following which they were taken to the Jamalpur dumping site for field inspection. MC Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo, Superintending Engineer Sanjay Kanwar, Rishi Karan Singh Rathour (SWM expert) and officials from the PMIDC were among others present during the field visit. The MC Commissioner said the civic body had already launched three projects worth around Rs 130 crore for disposing of legacy waste and fresh waste generated in the city. He said for a long-term sustainable solution of the solid waste management in the city, known as the industrial hub of the state, the civic body was now working to set up a ‘Waste To Energy’ plant. The firms invited on Friday have expertise in the field. Dachalwal said the legacy waste accumulated at the dump site would be disposed of in coming days as projects for the same had already been launched. Establishment of the ‘Waste to Energy’ plant would help in ensuring that no more waste gets accumulated again at the dump site and renewable energy could be generated from refuse. Five miscreants loot ~40K from two petrol stations Tribune News Service Ludhiana, January 31 Five suspects robbed two petrol stations of cash late on Thursday evening and fled the scene. The miscreants, who reportedly came in a looted car, robbed around Rs 40,000 from the fuel stations. After receiving information about the incident, the Machhiwara police reached the scene and started investigation. The first incident occurred on the Samrala road, where the robbers came in a white car. They refilled fuel in the vehicle and paid money but when they saw cash in the hand of the pump operator, all of them came out of the car. One of them reportedly had a pistol in his hand. The miscreants looted around Rs 35,000 and fled. Later, they reached the other fuel station located on Kohara Road where they beat up workers and escaped after looting Rs 5,000. They beaten up the victim with baseball bats. SHO, Focal Point, inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, said it was yet to be confirmed whether the miscreants in the case were the same suspects who looted a car near Dharamkot in Moga. The SHO, Machhiwara police station, inspector Harvinder Singh, said the suspects had recently looted a Kia car near Dharamkot in Moga and they were behind the loot at the two petrol pumps in Machhiwara. CCTV cameras captured the car that was looted from Moga district. A weapon can be noticed in the CCTV footage, it could be a toy pistol. “We have secured the CCTV footage of the suspects and probe is on to identify and nab them. Three more FIRs Man gets life term for killing wife Mishap at construction site: Injured resident of tax evasion alleges police inaction worth crores filed Tribune News Service Ludhiana, January 31 The State GST Department registered three more first information reports (FIRs) against different firms on the charge of tax evasion to the tune of crores of rupees. The first case was registered at the Daresi police station against Sucha Singh, a resident of Basti Jodhewal, on the complaint of Dipika Mahajan, state tax officer. As per the complaint, RS Hosiery, New Madhopuri, by preparing fake documents evaded tax to the tune of over Rs 71.45 lakh. After conducting investigation, a case was registered against the hosiery owner. Another case was registered at Police Division 6 against Atish Kumar of Arya Impex, Bhagwan chowk, Janta Nagar. State tax officer in the complaint stated that the director of the firm was involved in tax evasion to the tune of over Rs 17.84 crore and caused huge loss to the government exchequer. The third case was registered against owners of Alpine Garment Private Limited, Industrial Area A. The offenders in the case were identified as Pardeep Kumar of Harcharan Nagar and Swatantar Vaid of Upkar Nagar. A case was registered on the complaint of Ashwani Kumar, state tax officer. As per the FIR, “The owner of the firm indulged in tax evasion worth crores with the help of fake documents,” the complainant said. The state GST Department has started acting tough against frauds occurring in the department. It has been conducting raids at different places. On Wednesday, it got five FIRs registered against industrialists and traders at separate police stations. The suspects reportedly got fake GST bills and evaded tax, committing frauds with the department. Ludhiana, January 31 The Court of Additional Sessions Judge, Manila Chugh, has sentenced Suresh Kumar Chaudhary, a native of Bishohara village in Bihar to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 for the murder of his wife. In this regard, the Sahanewal police had registered a case against the accused under Section 302 of the IPC on November 10, 2019. According to the prosecution, on November 10, when SI Baldev Singh, along with a police team, was present at Eastman Chowk, Dhandari Kalan, they received information about the murder of a woman. They reached the scene, where the complainant, Tilak Raj, a resident of Chanderi Khurd village, reported that on November 8, 2019, a man and a woman had approached him to rent a room. The woman identified herself as Sheela Devi while the man as Suresh Kumar Chaudhary. After finalising the rent, both moved into the room on November 9. That night, Suresh, under the influence of alcohol, had an altercation with his wife. The next morning, when the complainant checked their room, he found the woman lying dead while her husband was missing. The complainant alleged that the accused murdered his wife and fled. Subse- quently, the police arrested him. The police registered the FIR and started a probe. During investigation, the police found much evidence against him. Later, they filed a charge sheet against him. In court, the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed he was falsely implicated. However, based on the testimonies presented during the trial, it found him guilty and pronounced the sentence. — OC Minor girl dies by suicide, College student robbed police stop cremation of mobile phone, wallet Ludhiana, January 31 A 17-year-old girl hanged herself from a ceiling fan at Ambedkar Colony here on Thursday night. Some residents raised suspicion over the death of the girl and informed the police. Following which, the police stopped the cremation and took the body into their custody. The deceased was identified as Neha. She hanged herself from the ceiling fan. On getting information about the incident, the family took her to a nearest hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Music for the soul ASI Sita Ram said the police were informed by residents that the girl had died under mysterious circumstances and a probe should be held. Accordingly, a police team reached the house of the girl and did not allow the kin to cremate her. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital where the autopsy of the girl would be conducted. If the post-mortem report will signal any other reason behind her death, the police would pursue the probe accordingly. So far, inquest proceedings were initiated in the case. Bhola, a neighbour of the woman, forcefully had physical relations with her for a few days. When the victim felt pain in her private part, she told her elder sister and mother about the suspect’s act. Afterwards, her family lodged a police complaint and a case was registered. ASI Randhir Singh said on the day of the incident, the victim was alone at home. He said despite submitting the complaint, the police were yet to register a case in the matter. The complainant, Harwinder Singh, of the Noorwala road area told the police that on January 28 his younger brother Balwinder Singh was going towards DS Knitwear, where he works, from the Sekhewal Road side. Ludhiana, January 31 Two miscreants targeted a book shop and committed a robbery at gunpoint in Sahnewal on Friday. After committing the crime, the duo locked the shopkeeper inside the shop. When the suspects left the scene, other shopkeepers opened the shutter. The Sahnewal police after registering a case started a probe in the matter. A CCTV footage of the crime has also surfaced. Owner of the shop Satinder Kumar said he was a resident of Lotus Enclave, Dehlon Road. His shop, Satinder Book Depot, is located in front of Gurdwara Somasar Sahib, Tibba Gate. Along with it, he also runs a grocery and general store. The miscreants came to the shop on the pretext of buying cigarettes. They brandished a pistol and took away the cash bag containing Rs 1 lakh rupees and important documents. The victim said he pleaded with miscreants to leave the scene but they did not listen. The robbers had covered their faces with clothes. After taking the money, they locked him inside the shop and fled. — TNS
