While Jaswinder Singh Happy has been elected president of the council, Bimla Rani has been elected vice-president. In the House of 13 councillors, the Congress candidates got eight votes each. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has congratulated the newly-elected MC president and vice-president and credited the PPCC general secretary (organisation) Capt Sandeep Sandhu, who remained around to ensure that there was no intimidation of the party councillors, for the party’s victory. Woman constable dies by suicide Ludhiana, February 19 A woman constable died by suicide by hanging herself at the NDRF headquarters in Ladhowal. The Ladhowal police launched a probe into the matter. The deceased tied her dupatta to the fan and hanged herself. The deceased was identified as Simranjit Kaur (25). According to information, the incident came to light when the woman did not reach her duty on Wednesday and her senior officer went to her room to check on her. Even after knocking for a long time, the door did not open. After which police officials broke the door and entered the room and saw the constable hanging from the fan. Following which, they informed the Ladhowal police. The police took the body in their custody and kept it in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital. Her family members were informed by the police. ASI Major Singh said the deceased was a resident of Mansa. She joined duty at the NDRF headquarters in Ludhiana on September 7, 2024. The police said no suicide note was recovered, which would have revealed the reason of taking the extreme step. Now, after the arrival of relatives of the victim, statements will be recorded and further action will be taken after conducting the autopsy. — TNS c m y b A first: Special outlet for promotion, display, sale of MSME, SHG products To come up inside DAC under ‘One District One Product’ initiative Tribune News Service Ludhiana, February 19 In a first-of-its-kind initiative, a special outlet is being opened for the promotion, display and sale of products made by MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) and self-help groups (SHGs) in Ludhiana. It will come up inside the District Administrative Complex (DAC) under the Centre’s ‘One District One Product’ initiative aimed at helping the MSMEs and the SHGs, besides promoting the ‘Make in India’ products. Giving a formal nod to open the outlet, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal directed district officials to identify a suitable location within the DAC for establishing a kiosk, dedicated to the promotion, display, and sale of products Deputy Commisioner Jitendra Jorwal approves opening of the special outlet for products of MSMEs and SHGs in Ludhiana. from the MSMEs and the SHGs under the ‘One District One Product’ initiative. Accompanied by ADC (Rural Development) Amarjit Bains and CM’s Field Officer Kritika Goyal, the Deputy Commissioner said the outlet would be set up under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Per- formance programme. “The project aims to enhance the implementation capacity and outreach of MSMEs by promoting innovation, encouraging new ideas, improving practices and processes, enhancing market access, supporting green initiatives and increasing guarantees for women- owned micro and small enterprises,” he said. He also mentioned that products created by artisans would be included in kiosk’s offerings. Jorwal also approved the allocation of Rs 15 lakh fund for establishing the kiosk, which will subsequently be leased to a private operator. He instructed officials from the Industries and Commerce (I&C) Department to also compile a directory of the products offered by the MSMEs and the SHGs and to hold meetings with these groups regarding the kiosk’s launch, ensuring they could utilise the platform for showcasing and sale of their products. The Deputy Commissioner also directed the officials to do the needful to set up the outlet at the earliest. 2 convicts try to flee hospital, caught Ludhiana, February 19 Two convicts came for a medical check-up at the Civil Hospital tried to escape by dodging police personnel but they chased them in the hospital only. According to information, on Wednesday, ASI Paramjit Singh from the Dharmpura police post had come to get the medical done of the two prisoners, Khushkaran and Harcharan. They dodged the police officials and ran away. Fortunately, the police chased them before they could leave the hospital. Investigating officer ASI Paramjeet Singh said the two convicts had tried to escape but they were caught on the spot. Both of them were convicted in snatching cases. — TNS
