Victim Baljinder Singh told the police that he was going in his car when four assailants, including his wife Vandana Jhalli, attacked him and managed to escape, leaving him behind in an injured condition. The police have registered a case against four assailants. No arrest has been made so far. OC WOMAN DRUG PEDDLER HELD Phagwara: The police have arrested a drug peddler and seized 10 gm of heroin from her possession on Thursday night. OC Aditya Jain scores hat-trick in Dist Bar Association poll State food panel member inspects ration depots in Kapurthala Tribune News Service Jalandhar , February 28 Member of the Punjab State Food Commission Vijay Dutt today conducted a surprise inspection of various government ration depots in Kapurthala district. The objective was to evaluate the implementation of welfare schemes under the National Food Security Act. He inspected ration depots in villages Wadala Kala and Kot Karar Khan. During that he interacted with the beneficiaries to take a feedback about that ration supply by the depots. Jalandhar, February 28 Winning the post of the president in the Jalandhar District Bar Association elections for the third consecutive time on Friday, Aditya Jain has surprised the entire legal fraternity. He has won with a margin of 285 votes, polling 1,056 votes out of the total 1,838 votes. Rattan Dua, who had contested the poll fiercely giving a tough fight to Jain, has polled 771 votes. Eleven votes were declared invalid. For the post of secretary, Rohit Gambhir managed a one-sided victory, polling 1,116 votes. His rivals Tarsem S Taak and Harsh Bhatt could poll only 408 and 311 votes, respectively. Ram Chhabra, whose poster campaign outdid others, polled 1,119 votes for the post of senior vicepresident against his rival Harinder Pal S Narula. The latter trailed by 690 votes. There were four contestants for the post of junior vice-president but Suraj Partap Singh has won, polling 845 votes. His closest rival Pardip Kumar Sharma trailed by 483 votes, Rajnish Sidhi got 274 votes and Vipan Kumar Khaira could grab only 231 votes. For the post of joint secretary, Sahil Malhotra clearly stood out polling 1,463 votes against his rival Mohammad Sajid, bagging only 340 votes. There were four candidates for the post of assistant secretary, of whom Sonalika emerged the winner, polling 635 votes. Weapons used in kabaddi player’s murder recovered from 2 shooters Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 28 The Jalandhar Rural Police have seized illegal weapons from two shooters involved in the murder of international kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian in 2022, said SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh here today. The accused Puneet Kumar of Mohalla Aman Nagar, Jalandhar, and Narinder Kumar of Gobind Nagar near Gujapir, Jalandhar, were brought on production warrant by the police. During interrogation, they revealed information about weapons used in the crime, which have now been recovered by the police. These include two pis- tols and ammunition. “The weapons’ recovery is a crucial piece of evidence in this high-profile murder case. The accused were brought on production warrant specifically to recover these weapons, which, we believe, were used in the execution of Ambian’s murder,” said Khakh. Khakh said the recovery operation was carried out under the leadership of SP Jasroop Kaur Bath, and DSP , Nakodar, Sukhpal Singh, CIA staff incharge inspector Pushp Bali with the active involvement of SI Baljinder Singh. On March 14, 2022, Sandeep was shot dead by assailants during a kabaddi tournament in village Mallian Kalan. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were recruited by foreignbased handler Jagjit Singh, alias Gandhi, alias Lucky, who provided them accommodation at different locations before directing them to murder Sandeep. The investigation has established that the shooters along with three other accomplices executed the killing in village Mallian. Dutt stated that the government was running a wheat distribution scheme from January to March. According to data, approximately 74 per cent of the wheat distribution in the district had been completed. Date for registries without NOC extended till Aug 31 Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 28 A heavy rush of applicants was seen in tehsils of Jalandhar as it was purportedly the last day for getting the properties registered without NOCs. In Jalandhar-1 tehsil, 161 registries were done, almost double the documents registered in routine days. The rush for applications was surging each day. A huge rush was witnessed yesterday and even today the number of appointments was alltime high. Just as the day got over, the state government issued a notification extending the last day of registering properties without NOC till August 31. This brought a huge relief for those who could not complete their files for registration by today or could not get appointment slots. The registries are not possible without seeking online appointment for the work from the office of the sub-registrar concerned. Gurpreet Singh, Tehsildar, Jalandhar-1, said, “The government has now given a sixmonth extension in the scheme. We have received orders for the same. Earlier, the government had given a window period only of three months for this - from December 1 to February 28, which got over today.”
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.

The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
