Javed Ahmed, a resident of Preet Nagar, reported the incident to the police. According to his statement, while he was travelling, two youths on a scooter approached him from behind and snatched his mobile phone. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police registered a case against Sukha Singh of Gobindpura and Kamaljit Bangar of Chachrari. Bangar has been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the second accused. OC YOUTH ABDUCTED, FIVE ARRESTED Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by UP resident Salim, the police have registered a case against five youths on the charge of abducting his son. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the police investigated the matter and arrested all five accused identified as Ravi Kumar (Phagwara), Palwinder Singh (Ramgarh), Raj Kumar and Sayeed (Garhshankar) and Jiwan (Mahilpur), who have confessed to their involvement in abducting the youth along with his car, which has also been recovered. OC ‘DRUG PEDDLER’ ARRESTED Phagwara: The police have arrested a ‘drug peddler’ and recovered 5 gm of heroin from his possession on Saturday night. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused identified as Raja of Amritsar was nabbed during a search operation conducted in Chhajj Colony, Phagwara. A case has been registered. OC MAN BOOKED FOR RASH DRIVING Five arrested with heroin, intoxicants in various cases Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 2 After the arrest of 29 persons in the crackdown against drugs on Saturday, the Jalandhar Rural Police arrested five more persons in five separate cases registered at Patara and Mehatpur on Sunday. While three were arrested by the Mehatpur police with illegal liquor and intoxicants, two men were arrested by the Patara police with 6 gm heroin and intoxicated tablets. Three alleged peddlers were arrested by the Mehatpur police with illegal liqour and intoxicated tablets in Jalandhar. The police said a team found a drug smuggler awaiting customers, while sitting with illegal liquor at the village funeral grounds at Mehsampur village on Saturday. They apprehended the ‘smuggler’ Balwinder Singh, alias Binder, resident of Mehsampur. A case has been registered under Sections 61 and 1 of the Excise Act at Mehatpur police station. The police have recovered 20 bottles of illegal liquor from Binder. In a separate case, the police near Ismailpur village in Mehatpur spotted a man, who, on seeing the police, dropped a black polythene on the road side. On being apprehended, the man was identified as Vicky. The police said 119 intoxicant tablets were recovered from the polybag thrown by the man. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the man at the Mehatpur police station on March 1. FIRs had also been registered against the man previously. A third peddler was also arrested by the Mehatpur police with intoxicants on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Patara police arrested two men with 6 gm heroin and 210 intoxicated tablets in Jalandhar. SSP , Jalandhar, HPS Khakh said a police party near Puranpur village spotted a man coming from the Puranpur side, heading to the village Muzaffarpur side on March 1. On seeing them, he threw down a polythene. Seeing this, the police arrested him. The youth was identified as Sunny Kumar of Muzzafarpur in Jalandhar. The police recovered the polythene thrown by Sunny from which 3 gm heroin and 90 tablets were recovered. Another police party during patrol near the Chadpur bridge spotted a young man, who on seeing the police tried to run. ASI Harminder Singh apprehended the man. He was identified as Lovepreet, alias Sakkha, of village Patara. Upon being searched, 3 gm heroin and 120 tablets were recovered in a packet from Lovepreet. The Patara police have booked the duo in two separate cases filed against them. A case was registered against Sunny Kumar on March 1 under Sections 21-A, 22 B, 61, 85, of the NDPS Act at the Patara police station. Jalandhar, March 2 Residents of Defence Colony here have been grappling with the deteriorating condition of the main road, which has remained neglected for over two-and-a-half years. The road, riddled with potholes and scattered gravel, has become a source of inconvenience and danger, especially during rain, despite repeated complaints to the Municipal Corporation (MC). The stretch is one of the busiest routes in the city, connecting bus stand on the one side and Jalandhar Cantt on the other, catering to heavy traffic throughout the day. It serves as a crucial link with several schools, shops and a gurdwara located along its path. Residents say that the road was repaired during the 2022 Assembly elections, offering a brief relief to commuters. However, the patchwork did not last long and the surface had steadily worsened since then. “During rain, potholes turn into water-filled craters, making it impossible to judge their depth. Riding a twowheeler on this road is extremely risky. We risk our lives every day,” said Nirmal Singh, a regular commuter. Residents have reported frequent near-miss accidents and health issues due to dust rising from the broken surface. Ward No. 18 Councillor Kanwar Sartaj said he had raised the issue with the MC Commissioner and other officials, who recently visited the site and assured him that the repairs would be carried out soon. “The road is a daily hazard and urgent action is needed to prevent accidents,” he said. According to the complaint filed by the victim, she is a weightlifter and had visited Lovely University to watch a match with her uncle, Prem Bajaj. After the event, the accused allegedly took her to Jalandhar and booked a hotel room, where he misbehaved with her. Following the complaint, the police have registered a case under 354A of the IPC against Prem Bajaj, a resident of Tripri, Patiala. Further investigation into the matter is underway. All-India Police Kabaddi Cluster kicks off today Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 2 Punjab Police Sports Secretary Navjot Singh Mahal on Sunday announced that the first All-India Police Kabaddi Cluster 2024-25 would take place from March 3 to 6. Surprisingly, fencing competition started today. He said the event would be inaugurated by ADGP State Armed Police, MF Farooqui. Mahal said the cluster would feature sports competitions in kabaddi, gymnastics and kho-kho at PAP Headquar- ters in Jalandhar, with fencing competitions being held at LPU in Phagwara. Approximately 2,000 players and officers from 30 police teams across the country are set to take part in these events. Mahal said all preparations for the competitions had been completed under the supervision of DIG Administration PAP , Inderbir Singh. DIG Inderbir Singh also presided over a meeting on Sunday to welcome the teams and ensure the smooth running of the games at both venues. Several houses were inspected during the operation. Senior police officials DSP Bharat Bhushan, SHO, City, Amandeep Nahar, Traffic Incharge Aman Kumar Daweshwar and SHO Sat- nampura Hardeep Singh were present at the scene. Speaking about the operation, SP Bhatti emphasised that drug peddling would not be tolerated under any circumstances. She urged the public to report any drugrelated activities without fear so that swift action could be taken against those involved. The police have reiterated their commitment to curbing drug abuse and trafficking in the region, assuring residents that strict action will be taken against offenders.
