Among the victims, younger brother Barune Dhawan is a lawyer in Patti courts, while his elder brother is an XEN in the powercom. In his complaint to the Patti city police, Barune Dhawan stated that the gangster in a WhatsApp call from foreign number had been repeatedly demanding extortion for the last two weeks. The gangster had been threatening brothers to kill them in case they failed to cough up money. On the midnight of March 7, one unknown bike-borne person fired at the victims’ residence gate. When the incident happened, Prabh Dasuwal called from his WhatsApp number and told the victims that like firing at the gate of their residence, their family too would meet the same fate. The gangster give victims a bank account number of the Axis Bank which was on the name of a Sakuntla Rani. In his complaint to the police, Barune expressed suspicion over involvement of Ashwani Kumar Sharma of Garden Colony here in the incident. ASI Sawinder Singh said a case had been registered against Dasuwal and an unidentified person in this regard. — OC Police working on different theories including illicit relationship Car, 22gm heroin seized from accused The two accused in custody of the Amritsar police on Sunday. 2 Nihangs held in murder case Amritsar, March 9 The city police have arrested two Nihangs in connection with the murder of a man identified as Lovepreet Singh outside Mohini Park locality near Khalsa College here four days ago. Those arrested were identified as Surinder Singh, alias Luv (25), of Mattewal, now residing at Nava Pind on the Mehta road, and Kuldeep Singh of Mohalla Baba Jeevan Singh (32) at Mattewal village. Kuldeep was at present living in quarters located on backside of the UT market. Baljinder Kaur, wife of deceased, stated to the police that Lovepreet and his friend Jaspal Singh had gone to market in a car (bearing registration number PB-02-BN-0396) on March 5. She said a few minutes later, Jaspal called her and said some unknown Nihangs had attacked Lovepreet with sharp weapons after an argument. Baljinder said she reached the spot and found several Nihangs attacking her husband and damaging their car. Lovepreet sustained serious sharp weapon injuries. The accused fled on their vehicle from the spot after the incident. Lovepreet was taken to a hospital where doctors declared brought dead on arrival. Vishaljit Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), said during probe it was found that Lovepreet was also a Nihang. He said the incident occurred after vehicles of both the parties collided with each other. Heated arguments between the victim and Nihangs soon took an ugly turn when the latter attacked him with swords and sharp weapons leaving him critically wounded, the ADCP said. –— TNS Amritsar, March 9 The rural police have yet to make any breakthrough in firing incident in which a 13year-old boy died while an Army man was injured during the closing ceremony of a football match at Khabbe Rajputa village in Mehta yesterday. The boy, identified as Gursewak Singh, alias Sabu, of Nangali Kalan village died on way to hospital. Injured Army man Gurpreet Singh (25) of Khabbe Rajputa village, was admitted to a hospital for treatment. The incident occurred when award ceremony was going on at the village ground. Gursewak was member of Nangali Kalan village football team. He was participating in the tournament. He was standing near Gursewak Singh. FILE PHOTO Gurpreet, who played as goalkeeper in the tournament, when two unidentified bikeborne persons sprinkled bullets at them. A bullet hit Gursewak in his stomach damaging his vital organs thereby leading to his death. The assailants fired four gunshots and fled from the spot. People rushed both the victims to a hospital where doctors declared Gursewak brought dead. Victim’s father Dalbir Singh said his son was participating in the football tournament at Khabbe Rajputa village. He was having his pictures clicked when two bike-borne persons arrived on the spot. The bike driver had covered his face, while pillion rider fired at Gurpreet. A bullet hit in stomach of my son, he said. He was taken to Baba Bakala hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Gursewak was only son of the family. He is survived by his parents and three sisters. Maninder Singh, SSP Amrit, sar (Rural), said, “The police are working on different theories and motive behind the incident, including alleged illicit relationship. The assailants will be arrested soon.” — TNS Tribune News Service Amritsar, March 9 The city police have nabbed a robber for allegedly looting an Uttarakhand bus conductor a week ago. The arrested accused was identified as Gautam (20), a resident of Nikka Singh Colony, while efforts were on to nab his two accomplices in the in looting incident. The police have also impounded the car used in the crime. The police said Pawan Kumar, a resident of Haripur in Uttarakhand, worked as a conductor with the Uttarakhand Roadways. On March 3 midnight, he arrived at the Amritsar bus stand. After dropping passengers, he went towards Ghah Mandi side for dinner. The victim said when he reached near Ghah Mandi, a car stopped near him and its occupants entered into a scuffle with him. They snatched conductor’s bag containing Rs 33,000 in cash and a ticket machine on point of pistol. The accused fled form the spot after firing into the air, the victim said. ADCP Harpal Singh said during probe, the police arrested the accused and impounded car, besides recovering 22 gram of heroin and Rs 2,000 drug money from him. He said raids were on to nab accomplices of the accused who were named in the FIR. Cross-border weapon smuggler arrested with two pistols Amritsar, March 9 The CIA staff of the Amritsar (Rural) police have arrested a cross-border weapon smuggler and recovered two pistols from his possession. He was identified as Rajinder Singh, alias Sona, a resident of Dande village falling under the Gharinda police station here. The police impounded his bike (bearing registration number c m y b PB-02-BB-8961) in the case. Harinder Singh Gill, SP (D), Amritsar (Rural), said the police recovered a 9mm pistol with magazine and a .30 bore pistol with magazine from him. A case under the Arms Act was registered against the accused at the Gharinda police station, he said. Sharing details, the SP said the police got information that Rajinder had links with Pak- istan-based smugglers and was involved in cross-border smuggling of weapons. The informer told the police that the accused was standing near the Attari grain market for delivering weapons consignment, smuggled from Pakistan, to some persons. The SP said immediately a team of the CIA staff raided the designated spot and arrested the accused resulting in recovery of two pistols. In the second incident, the rural police arrested four persons, who indulged in indiscriminate firing into the air in Baba Bakala Sahib area, leading to panic among residents. The police recovered .315 bore rifle with two bullets and three empty shells and .45 bore pistol with two live cartridges and four empty shells from them. Those arrested were identified as Jatinder Singh and Amardeep Singh of Baba Bakala Sahib, Ranjit Singh of Mohabbat Nagar in Kapurthala and Simranpal Singh of Mansoorwal in Kapurthala. Their two accomplices Arwinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh of Baba Bakala Sahib were yet to be arrested. — TNS
