They razed the house of a woman drug peddler at Pasla village in Jalandhar today. In the presence of officials of the civil administration, an unauthorised structure in village Pasla, under the jurisdiction of Nurmahal police station, was demolished on Sunday. This is the fourth establishment of a drug peddler to be demolished by the Jalandhar rural police. SSP Gurmeet Singh stated that Jaswinder Kaur, alias Jassi, wife of Amarjeet Singh, alias Rami, a resident of Pasla, had been involved in drug trafficking for a long time and was named in many cases registered under the NDPS Act. He revealed that the couple had illegally occupied about 34 marlas of panchayat land, constructing a bathroom and boundary walls. During the visit, he took serious note of the non-functional treatment plants and discharge of untreated sewage into the drain through broken pipelines. Expressing displeasure, Seechewal reprimanded officials for their negligence and immediately informed DC Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, urging strict action against those responsible. He also sought accountability from officials across all departments. Responding to the matter, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, to visit the site and submit a status report within three days. Jalandhar, March 30 In a major breakthrough amid the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the police have made another arrest in connection with a case of attack on Youtuber’s house in Jalandhar, taking the total arrests in this case to seven. DGP Gaurav Yadav said the Jalandhar Rural Police apprehended an accused identified as Maninder, alias Bobby, a resident of Alichak in Jalandhar, from the Chandigarh airport. Some individuals had attacked Youtuber and social media influencer Roger Sandhu’s house located in Raipur Rasoolpur village in Jalandhar on the night of March 15 and 16. Yadav said preliminary investigations have revealed that accused Maninder had arranged weapons and hand- ed these over to accused Rohit Basra, who further provided these to Amritpreet and Dheeraj on March 8 at Jandu Singha. Maninder has been facing multiple cases under the Arms Act, he added. The DGP said further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full network. The development came days after the police arrested six accused involved in this case, including Amritpreet Singha, Hardik Kamboj, Dheeraj Kumar, Santosh Kumar, Lachhmi and Rohit Basra. Police teams have also recovered one hand grenade, two .32 bore pistols along with ammunition and three motorcycles from their possession. Man held for murdering wife Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, March 30 The police have arrested a person for allegedly murdering his wife. Gurdev Singh, a resident of village Landran under Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, has lodged a complaint with the police at Chabbewal. He said his sister Kavita was married to Manjit Singh, a resident of village Saidpur, about six years ago. The complainant alleged that Manjit started harassing his sister soon after the marriage. He said the last day, his sister had told him on the phone that her husband was harassing and threatening to kill her. He told his sister to somehow spend the night and he would reach her in the morning. After this, late night Manjit told him on the phone that Kavita had committed suicide by hanging herself. When he reached there with his mother and relatives, his sister was dead. He alleged that his sister did not commit suicide but her husband allegedly murdered her. The police registered a case and arrested the accused after registering a case against him. The teachers are trying their best to attract students to schools. Messages are also being circulated through social media and teachers are extensively making the use of social media apps to reach out to students. They are going door to door and village panchayats have also been roped in for this purpose. Sohan Lal, a government teacher from Government Primary School, Mandala, said they had been going door to door to talk to people and are also keeping in contact with sarpanchs. “They help us getting the maximum admission for schools. Right now, we have 80 students in our school and we are expecting a good increase in the strength in the coming session,” Sohan Lal said. A Parent-Teacher Meeting along with the graduation ceremony was organised in Government Primary School, Mandala. “Our school result is very good and village sarpanch was also there at the school who appreciated the efforts by the school for students,” the teacher of Government School, Mandala, said. A government school teacher from Balachaur of Nawanshahr said home visits by the school staff was being done. “We are making huge promises with the parents,” the teacher said.
