Shahkot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Onkar Singh Brar said 163 intoxicant tablets (loose) were recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Sandeep Singh, alias Anda, a resident of Ward No. 8, Lohian Khas, and 50 intoxicant tablets (loose) were recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Sahil, alias Sukha, a resident Saidpur Jhirri village. The DSP said cases under Sections 22/61/85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Act were registered against the accused at the Lohian Khas and Shahkot police stations against the two accused. The Nurmahal police also arrested a drug peddler identified as Akashdeep, alias Tula, a resident of Bijli Daftar Colony after recovering 60 intoxicant tablets (loose) from him, said investigating officer Bodh Raj. Investigating officer (IO) Amrik Raj said nine bottles of hooch were seized from possession of the accused identified as Bora, a native of Uttar Pradesh, presently residing at Natt village. A case under Sections 61/1/14 of the Punjab Excise Act was registered against the accused, the IO said. Jalandhar, April 11 Every second day, cases of death due to rash driving are being reported from Nawanshahr. In last nine days, four lives have been snuffed out in accidents. Today, Raj Kumar from Jalandhar died at Aur in Nawanshahr when a Swift car hit his scooter. In complaint to the police, victim’s brother Hari Om stated that he was following Raj Kumar on other scooter while they were going towards Phillaur. “Suddenly, a Swift car that was coming at high speed drove past me and hit my brother’s scooter from the rear. Due to impact of the collision my brother fell on the road and sustained serious injuries on his head,” the complainant said. Hari Om said that with the help of passersby he took his brother to hospital, but doctors could not save him. “My brother died on the spot. But, the car driver didn’t stop and fled from spot. I want strict action against him,” Hari Om told the police. The complainant also noted the car registration number. A case under Section 106, 281 and 324 (4) of the BNS was registered against unknown car driver in this connection. Five days ago, a man died after the bike he was driving was hit by a speeding SUV from behind. The deceased was identified as Balbir Singh. His cousin Mohit Ram from Nawan- shahr Sadar in his complaint to the police had stated he along with his brother Balbir Singh were going to their home when the accident happened. Another accident happened at Mukandpur five days ago. One Surinder Kumari in her complaint to the police had stated that she and her brother were riding different vehicles when suddenly, a bike rider came from the wrong side and collided with her brother’s motorcycle, leaving him seriously injured. She said her brother died soon after the accident. Eight days ago, a 12-yearold child died after being hit by rashly driven vehicle. In all these accidents, cases were registered against unknown drivers. Man found dead under mysterious circumstances Our Correspondent Phagwara, April 11 An unidentified person was found dead near Santokhpura locality under mysterious circumstances. Residents, who informed the Satnampura police first, alleged that they were asked to report the case to the city police. When residents informed the city police, they were asked to inform the Municipal Corporation. When residents approached officials of the Municipal Corporation, they were asked to send the body to the Civil Hospital. Ultimately, the Satnampura police took the body of the deceased into custody around 4 pm and shifted it to the Civil Hospital mortuary where it would be kept for identification. In an official order they stated: “Keeping in view administrative interests and in continuation of earlier orders in this regard, Naib Tehsildars of all subdivisions of Kapurthala district, including Phagwara, Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi, Nakodar, Shahkot, Mehatpur, Nurmahal and Lohian Khas, are directed to register property sale deeds.” Eleven Naib Tehsildars in Jalandhar have been authorised to register sale deeds. At present, only two Kanungos are entitled to register property sale deeds. The government had withdrawn registration powers from revenue officers in March following their strike. Dewan, who was suspended, is fighting a legal battle in the court against the order.” The Congress leader said the gates of the MC office were locked after the SDM left. “They did this so that we could not enter the office and expose the AAP for its incomplete exercise regarding passing of resolutions. They said Bhagwant Mann’s government, which used to poke fun at previous governments, was itself being ridiculed by various teachers’ organisations which were continuously opposing this “false revolution”. Jalandhar, April 11 For the third consecutive Friday, the Muslim community held protests outside mosques across the region after offering namaz this morning. The protests are being held over the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill by the Central Government. Muslim organisations, religious leaders and social activists came together in unity to raise their voices against the Bill. Protests were also held in Nakodar and Nawanshahr. During protest, community leaders held banners with messages, “Save Indian Muslim Waqf properties”, “Save our Constitution” and “Take back black laws”.
