Raj Kumar Thapa, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, and his two staff members were seriously injured when an artillery shell hit his official residence in the town. The injured were taken to the Government Medical College, Rajouri, where Thapa succumbed to the injuries. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the bereaved family and expressed his condolences. An infant, Aisha Noor (2), and Mohd Shohib (35) were killed in a separate shelling incident the industrial area of Rajouri. A sergeant at the Udhampur Air Force station was killed when a suspected projectile hit the area. The deceased has been identified as Surinder Kumar. Also, Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, was killed during indiscriminate shelling in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch. A 55-year-old woman, Rashida Bi, lost her life when a mortar shell hit her house at Kanghra-Galhutta village in Mendhar of Poonch district. Another civilian, Zakir Hussain (45), was killed and two others, including a girl, were injured in shelling at Kheri Keran village of Bantalab in Jammu district. Briefing the media on Saturday, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said that the IAF’s targets included Nur Khan (Chaklala) in Rawalpindi, Rafiqui in Shorkot, Murid in Chakwal, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur and Chunian. Radar sites at Pasrur and Sialkot bases were also hit. Some of these bases house Pakistan’s key fighter elements like the Chinese JF-17 and French Mirage–III as well as conduct VIP transport operations, while three are said to be forward-operating bases. Pakistan has 12 major airbases located across its territory, divided into three commands — Northern, Central and Southern. According to official sources, Pakistan initiated unprovoked firing on BSF posts in the Jammu sector around 9 pm. SI DIES IN CROSS-BORDER FIRE A BSF sub-inspector was killed and seven injured in cross-border firing along the International Border in RS Pura sector of Jammu on Saturday. The BSF in a statement said SI Mohammad Imteyaz was killed while leading a border outpost and expressed its condolences to the family. The others have been shifted to a nearby military medical facility, officials said. The BSF personnel responded to the attack, causing widespread damage to the posts and assets of the Pakistan Rangers along the IB. The launch pad at Looni in Sialkot district was destroyed in the retaliatory strikes. The BSF had on May 8 night foiled a major infiltration bid by a large group of terrorists, killing seven at the IB in Samba district. The missile uses inertial navigation combined with satellite guidance for mid-course correction. — TNS New Delhi, May 10 India’s precision strikes across terrorist hideouts deep within Pakistan on May 7 resulted in the elimination of at least five high-value operatives tied to proscribed groups such as the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), top government sources said here today. “The slain individuals were not just foot soldiers — they represented the ideological and operational backbone of the Pakistan-based terrorism targeting India,” the official said. Over 70 terrorists were reported killed, and more than 60 others injured during the coordinated assault. Among those killed was Mudassar Khadian Khas, also known as Abu Jundal, a senior LeT figure. His funeral, strikingly held in a government school, was led by Hafiz Abdul Rauf, a top JuD leader and designated global terrorist. The presence of a serving Lieutenant General of the Pakistan army and the Inspector General of the Pakistan Punjab police at the ceremony had raised the alarm about continued state complicity in sheltering and endorsing terrorist elements.
