Two years after The Kerala Story created waves, Adah Sharma reflects on how the film didn’t just change her career—it reaffirmed her belief in staying true to herself. Actress Adah Sharma opens up on her dreams, dosas and dancing to her own rhythm MORE THAN A HIT FILM When The Kerala Story released, few could’ve predicted its box office success. But Adah remembers the deeper personal shift it sparked. “It created history and became the highest female grossing film of all time… but more than everything, it cemented my belief that I can stay in my own lane and do my own thing,” she smiles. impractical pursuits like crafting invisible castles and conversing with imaginary creatures!” she laughs. BELIEVING BEFORE ANYONE DID Before her horror hit 1920, Adah already knew she was meant to act. “I did theatre during school days. And when I was on stage acting, I believed I was an actor.” Landing her debut film early felt like fate. “I got the role of a lifetime in my first film itself!” But it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. “I’m human, I feel pathetic and miserable and cry and then move on like everyone else,” she shares candidly. STILL FEELING THE IMPACT The Kerala Story continues to move her, even two years later. “I still get the goosebumps when people tell me that it changed their life. Personally, it made me very very grateful that I live in a country where I have freedom to roam the streets, own a cell phone and I don’t live in terror.” FOUR RELEASES & COUNTING The year 2024 was big for Adah—four different releases in wildly varied genres. “I had four releases and all of them were such varied genres and roles. I’m very very fortunate.” So what’s cooking now? “I’m working in many projects which are all very different from each other. I’m happy that filmmakers see a different Adah in me.” ‘Mujh par bharosa karo’ “I feel so much love for India. India is an amazing country, people, and culture. I have to say the whole experience has been etched in my memory. Every single moment. From the moment I landed, going to the Taj Mahal, and spending time in Mumbai, I remember each moment quite vividly,” he said. Cruise further said he wants to make a film in India as he has been a fan of Bollywood movies. “I love it when in a scene someone suddenly breaks into a song. I love it. It’s something that I have grown up watching—musicals from different countries. I love Bollywood movies. You can just break out into a song, it’s so beautiful. I love the dancing, singing, and the actors,” he said. “I cannot wait to go back to India. I have so many friends there. I have met such amazing people there. I would love to make a Bollywood-style movie. It would be so much fun and amazing to do that. I love the dancing and singing, it would be so much fun to do that.” Towards the end, Kaur asked Cruise to recite the dialogue “I need you to trust me, one last time” from “The Final Reckoning” in Hindi. “Mujh par bharosa karo, ek aakhri baar,” Cruise said. — PTI Ali Fazal, Tillotama Shome to feature in Beyond A Himalayan tale Popular actor Ali Fazal is set to star in a horror-thriller Beyond alongside Tillotama Shome. Directed by Sumit Purohit, the film is set in a ghostly Himalayan town. It is written by Purohit and Saurav Dey, according to a report. The filmmaker said the narrative of the film is inspired by local legends and myths to some extent. “Like many others from the region, my aspirations led me to move away in search of opportunities. This constant migration has left many hill settlements slowly turning into ghost towns and villages, deserted by their people. One such place, forgotten and frozen in time, is the setting for my film Beyond,” he said in a statement. “Local legends and myths also inspire the narrative. The Big Bang Theory. CHANNELLING THE CHAOS DANCING WITH THE DOSAS! Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise has a message for his fans in India — “Main aap sab se bahut pyaar karta hoon”. The actor went on to share his wish of making a Bollywoodstyle film. Cruise’s latest film Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning released in Indian theatres on Saturday. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film is the eighth instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. In a promotional video, released by Paramount Pictures India, Cruise, 62, interacted with actor-influencer Avneet Kaur, who asked him to say a few words for his fans in the country. “Main aap sab se bahut pyaar karta hoon (I love you all very much)” Cruise said. He also recounted his memories of visiting India in 2011 during the promotions of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, which also featured Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor in a cameo appearance.
