OC 7 HELD FOR DRUG PEDDLING Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested two 'drug peddlers' on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 110 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Vishal Bawa, alias Viki, of Khurampur village and Gurmit Singh of Beetalan village. A case under Sections 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at Nakodar Sadar police station. The Bilga police arrested 'drug peddler' Resham Singh of Burj Hassan, with 160 intoxicating tablets. The Shahkot police arrested drug peddler Darshan Singh of Baupur village with 16 tablets. Besides, three more 'peddlers', including a woman, were held with 139 tablets. OC MAN BOOKED FOR KIDNAPPING Phagwara: The Nakodar police have booked an unidentified person on the charge of kidnapping a girl. Tanish Kumar, a resident of Railway Road, complained to the police that an unidentified person had kidnapped his sister. A case has been registered against the unidentified miscreant. OC MAN HELD FOR TAKING DRUGS Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a 'drug addict. The accused has been identified as Major Singh of Bute Dian Chhana village. A lighter, a silver paper and a plastic pipe used for consuming the contraband were recovered from his possession. A case has been registered under Sections 27, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act against the accused. oc DRUNK MAN FOUND DEAD Phagwara: A migrant youth of Bihar and residing at Nihaluwal village was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Jai Kumar (25). A resident of Nihaluwal village told the police that the deceased died due to excessive drinking. The traffic on roads remained thin from noon to 3 pm as people avoided going out. The lives of those working in the open, including roadside vendors, dhaba workers, labourers, fuel filling station staff and parking lot staff, remained affected. People kept their heads and faces covered to avoid direct heat. The sale of lemon soda, lassi, mango shake, sugarcane juice, ice creams and cold drinks remained all-time high. Fruits like watermelons, musk melons and mangoes also recorded high sale. Several organisations had organised chhabeels to quench the thirst of commuters. Water parks drew a lot of rush from families as schools are off due to summer break. Swimming pools at the Gymkhana Club, HMV College, Sports College and other places have been drawing more people. Jalandhar, June 9 Residents of Adampur are in panic after two incidents of loot took place within a span of two days. A young man engaged in making daily collections for a firm faced a loot of Rs 20,000 and was attacked with a dagger. Today, another youth working for Flipkart was attacked and looted of Rs 1.5 lakh. The incident took place at Shivpuri Road in Adampur at 11:30 am. Today’s victim Manpreet Singh (25), resident of Duhre village, stated that he was making collections for Flip- kart when two masked men on a motorcycle stopped him and attacked him with a dagger. “They looted Rs 1.5 lakh from me and fired a gunshot in the air before fleeing”, he reported. The police have started investigating the matter and are scanning CCTV footage to identify the culprits. In yesterday’s incident too, two motorcycle-borne men had attacked the victim in the same fashion showing a dagger. The victim Ajay Sharma of Adampur stated that he was at work when they looted Rs 20,000 from him. — TNS Guv advocates transformative teacher training at LPU conference Our Correspondent Phagwara, June 9 Emphasising education as the cornerstone of national development, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria underscored the importance of teacher training in shaping the future of the country. Speaking at a high-level conference of academic leaders hosted by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara (LPU), the Governor urged institutions across Punjab to adopt transformative models of teacher education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). The conference brought together Vice-Chancellors, directors, senior bureaucrats and policymakers from public, private, and autonomous educational institutions across the state. A central focus was the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), a compre- hensive four-year degree programme launched as part of NEP 2020, designed to replace traditional post-graduate B.Ed programmes with an integrated curriculum beginning after the high school. “By equipping teachers with professional and high-quality training, we can prepare a generation of responsible and capable citizens,” Kataria said. He stressed that while infrastructure remains essential, the quality of education ultimately depends on the continuous enhancement of teacher capabilities. “Improving infrastructure is not enough, our real investment must be in teacher development,” he added. LPU will continue to work towards innovation-driven growth,” he said. 2 arrested with 109 intoxicating tablets Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 9 Two persons were arrested with 109 intoxicating tablets during the ongoing Yudh Nashian Virudh drive in Jalandhar. DSP Shahkot, Onkar , Singh Brar, said during a patrol by a police party under ASI Balvir Chand, Lohian police station, the police saw a black motorcycle coming from the village Ghudduwal side with two men on it. On suspicion, the police apprehended the two men. Upon a search, the police found 109 tablets in their pos- Police also impound a motorcycle session. The duo was arrested by the police. The two accused have been identified as Sonu Singh, resident of village Toti at Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala, and Amritpal Singh, resident of Phul Ghudduwal village at Lohian in Jalandhar. Along with 109 tablets, the police also impounded the motorbike. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them at Lohian police station.
