TNS WOMAN CAUGHT WITH 1 KG OPIUM Phagwara: The Bholath police arrested a woman with one kg of opium near village Bagrian. Addressing a press conference, DSP Karnail Singh stated that the arrest was made following proactive patrolling by SHO Ranjit Singh and his team. As the police party approached the vicinity of Bagrian village, they noticed a woman holding a plastic bag who appeared visibly nervous upon seeing the officers and began walking away hurriedly. Acting on suspicion, the police apprehended the woman with the help of a lady constable. Upon questioning, she identified herself as Amarjit Kaur of Kamarawan village. A search of the plastic bag led to the recovery of one kg opium.A case has been registered, and further legal proceedings have been initiated. OC Speeding SUV hits auto in Phillaur, three women killed, four injured Our Correspondent Phagwara, June 25 A road accident near village Chhichhowal on the PhillaurNawanshahr highway claimed the lives of three women and left four others, including a child, seriously injured on Wednesday. The collision occurred between an autorickshaw and a speeding SUV reportedly coming from , the wrong side of the road. According to witnesses and injured autorickshaw driver Nirmal Singh, he was carrying passengers from village Jhandapeer to Phillaur when the incident occurred. As he approached Chhichhowal, a high-speed SUV coming from the Phillaur side allegedly veered into the wrong lane and struck the autorickshaw head-on. The impact was so severe that the autorickshaw was completely damaged, and its passengers were thrown out. The mangled remains of the auto; and (r) an injured in Phillaur hospital. The accused has been identified as Sahil Hans, a resident of Kakipind village in Jalandhar. Amandeep of Mohalla Santokhgarh, Nakodar, told the police that he had paid Rs 2 lakh to the accused for facilitating his migration abroad. The autorickshaw driver recounted, “I was driving in my own lane when the SUV came speeding from the opposite direction and hit us directly. I had no time to react. The vehicle was com- pletely out of control.” A witness added, “The collision was brutal. The autorickshaw was overloaded. Some passengers died on the spot.” Following the accident, the police arrived at the scene and took the bodies into custody for the post-mortem examination. Cops are investigating the cause and booked the car driver for reckless and negligent driving. Our Correspondent Phagwara, June 25 A road accident was narrowly averted near the Radha Soami Satsang Dera on the national highway close to Goraya. A high-speed truck rammed into a stationary tipper loaded with gas cylinders, causing it to fall off the flyover. Fortunately, none of the 350 gas cylinders exploded, preventing what could have been a devastating tragedy. The impact left the truck driver, tipper driver and a cleaner injured. Bystanders quickly alerted the highway control room. Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswinder Singh of the Road Safety Force, along with his team, swiftly reached the spot and barricaded the area. The injured identified as truck driver Gurdayal Singh of Ludhiana, tipper driver Sahil of Pathankot and cleaner Rublepreet of Gurdaspur. According to Sahil, he had stopped the vehicle to check the air pressure of tyres when the truck hit it from behind, causing the tipper to fall nearly 15 feet from the flyover along with the cylinders. Truck driver Gurdayal Singh claimed he lost control of the vehicle as a trailer suddenly appeared in front of him, leading to the collision. The biggest change was in the Adampur Assembly (SC) seat where the party has reimposed faith in Ravidasia Nawanshahr, June 25 In a tragic incident of reckless driving, one person lost his life and another was injured in a road accident near the T-point at Ghamaur, Balachaur. The accident took place around 10:40 AM when a high-speed car, allegedly driven by Naveen Pandey of Uttar Pradesh, rammed into a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The deceased has been identified as Sagar Kumar, a resident of Nawanshahr. According to a police complaint filed by Sagar’s mother Harmesh Kaur, she and her son were on their way for some personal work when the accident happened. “We were going on our bike when a Bolero came speeding from the Garhshankar side. The vehicle collided with the bike. Both of us fell on the road. Sagar was severely injured and I too sustained injuries,” Harmesh told police officials. Mini truck collides with parked water tanker, one dies Our Correspondent Talwara, June 25 One person died when a mini truck collided with a water tanker near Bhawanour bus stand. Pawan Kumar of Mandi was driving a mini truck from Talwara to Daulatpur. When the mini truck reached near Bhawanour village bus stand, it collided with a water tanker parked there. Mahinder Singh, a resident of village Chalet, who was standing near the tanker and worked as a labourer on the newly constructed railway line, got seriously injured. He was immediately taken to the CHC, Bhol Kalota. After the first-aid, Mahinder Singh was referred to Mukerian Government Civil Hospital where he died during treatment. The Talwara police took the body into custody and started further action. Jalandhar, June 25 Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal on Wednesday directed the police to prepare a detailed list of black spots across the district where frequent road accidents occur. Chairing the monthly meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, the DC said identifying these accident-prone locations is crucial to implementing timely corrective measures and saving precious lives. He instructed officials from the Public Works and Transport Departments to conduct joint site visits to these black spots once the police submit the list. “Post-inspection, necessary structural changes and infrastructure improvements must be proposed to eliminate these hazards,” Dr Aggarwal added. In April, four lives had been snuffed out in accidents because of rash driving. 9 hurt in clash over parking Phagwara, June 25 A late night altercation between two groups during a party in Hothian village near Kapurthala resulted in the injury of nine persons, including village sarpanch Narinder Kaur. The incident reportedly took place around 9 PM last night. The dispute began when some party attendees allegedly parked their vehicle in front of a neighbouring house. Kamaljeet Kaur, a resident of that house, stated that she requested the guests to move their vehicles, following which a group of nearly 20–25 individuals allegedly gathered and assaulted her family. Kamaljeet claims that the assailants forcibly entered her home, assaulted her and attacked her parents — Ranjit Kaur and Raunki — who came to her defence. Her brothers Amritpal and Pradeep were also injured in the confrontation. Stones were reportedly thrown at the house during the attack. From the opposing group, Narinder Kaur (sarpanch), Sukhdayal Singh, Harjeet Singh, and Kirandeep Kaur also sustained injuries. One individual was said to be seriously hurt and was referred to a private hospital for advanced treatment. All injured are receiving care at the Civil Hospital in Kapurthala. The meeting was presided over by Mayor Vaneet Dhir and saw participation from Senior Deputy Mayor Balbir Singh Dhillon, Deputy Mayor Malkit Singh and committee members Kavita Seth and Hitesh Aggarwal. The approved projects span across various sectors, including road repairs, repaire of tubewells, water supply enhancement, etc. The works that was finalised included construction of facilities like shed, inter-locking tiles under the shed, security room and washroom at the Wariana garbage dump for an estimated amount of Rs 44.93 lakh.
