Respite from bumpy ride after monsoon Allowed to practise during period they have paid for; new fee structure planned Ramkrishan Upadhyay Chandigarh, September 15 Trainees at the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) will be allowed to continue their coaching sessions during the period they have paid for. Also, a new fee structure will be approved by the UT Administration so that these trainees can continue training at the Sector 10 complex, said sources in the UT Administration. The administration has ‘terminated’ the lease with the CLTA on the expiry of its period, and the seven-day notice to evict the Sector 10 complex ends on September 17. While the administration will officially reveal its coaching module after getting the possession of the complex, the facility can also be made available for running a Khelo India centre, state-run tennis academy (on the lines of football and hockey academies) or a centre of excellence for tennis. “The transaction period will take a little time, but everything will happen for good. The players’ training won’t be affected, as they can continue to get coaching for the period TRAINEES HOLD CANDLELIGHT MARCH On Monday evening, trainees and coaches of the CLTA held a candlelight march, demanding the rollback of the administration’s decision to “terminate” the lease as well as the seven-day eviction notice. The march was held at the Sector 10 sports complex. Parents of man killed in mishap awarded ~21L Truck hits bike, 3 of family hurt the road connecting his village, a truck hit his motorcycle. He fell down and run over by the truck. Vikram’s right leg got crushed under the wheels. He also suffered serious injuries on the head. He was admitted to a hospital where he died during treatment. The claimants said Vikram was worked as a welder with a private company and earned Rs 18,000 per month. The family was dependent on his salary to meet all household expenses. The driver and owner of the truck opposed the petition. They claimed that the truck was involved in no accident. After hearing of the arguments, the tribunal held that the claimants were entitled to Rs 21,02,000 compensation along with interest at the rate of 9% per annum from the date of claim petition till its realisation. Chandigarh, September 15 A speeding truck hit a motorcycle near Hallomajra today, leaving a man and his two children critically injured. The victims have been identified as Ashok Kumar, a resident of Behlana; and his children Dikshant Chandel (16) and Anshika (13). According to the police, Ashok was turning towards a petrol pump when the truck, coming at a high speed, hit his motorcycle. The man had picked his children from school. A Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle reached the spot within minutes and rushed the victims to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. They were later referred to the PGI. The driver fled the scene leaving the truck at the spot. Sunehari, mother, and Mam Chand, father of the deceased Vikram, and other claimants, all residents of Ambala district, had filed a claim petition under Section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act. They said on November 29, 2021, Vikram was going from his native village of Shergarh towards Saha for his duty on a motorcycle. His brother Rajesh Kumar, was also going towards Saha on a separate motorcycle. Foul Tribune news service Chandigarh, September 15 The city roads battered by rains are all set to get a new look as the MC Engineering Department has floated a Rs 41-crore tenders for recarpeting. Sources said the tenders had been floated for the V-4, V-5 and V-6 roads. The maintenance of V-3, V-4, V-5, V-6 and the roads of village stretches fall under the MC jurisdiction. The V3 roads, with a total length of 275 km, are sectordividing stretches, which were recently transferred to the Chandigarh Administration due to the fund crisis in the civic body. The other roads left with the MC are in poor shape as repairs have not been carried out for a long time. The V-4 roads divide a sector and have shopping areas and other conveniences alongside. The V-5 and V-6 roads are located in front of markets and residential areas, respectively. An internal survey conducted by the MC has found that at least 60 roads are in a “very poor” condition. These have not been recarpeted for more than five years. In a majority of the cases, the roads were last recarpeted six to eight years ago. During the execution of this work, one side of the road will remain closed. Similarly, patch work on the V-3 road between Sector 32 and 33 (Sarovar Path) and between Sector 48 and 49 will be carried out from September 16 to 18. Indian Air Force celebrated Continued on page 2 PAGE 2 Foreigner held with cocaine, pills; sold these at parties across Tricity Mohali, September 15 The police have arrested a Nigerian national involved in drug trafficking and recovered 255 grams of cocaine, 10.25 gm of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills and Rs 2 lakh from him in Kharar. A team of the Range AntiNarcotics-cum-Special Operations Cell, Mohali, was on duty near Preet Karyana Store, GTB Colony, Kharar, around 11:45 when they received information that a Nigerian national, Augustine Okwudili, was selling cocaine in the colony on September 12. A raid was immediately conducted and Okwudili was arrested with 255 grams of cocaine. The police also recovered Rs 2,00,000 cash, believed to be drug proceeds from him. The accused in custody of the Mohali police. The accused was presented before the court on September 13. The judge sent him to two-day police remand for further investigation. During his interrogation, the accused confessed that more synthetic drug was concealed in his scooter. The police recovered 10.25 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills from his two-wheeler. Initial investigation has revealed that both drugs were being sold at private parties across Mohali, Chandigarh, and Panchkula.
