Both drivers sustained serious injuries, while the truck driver had to be rescued after a 2.5-hour-long operation using a crane and cutter. Witnesses said a bus of a private transport company, coming from Dasuya towards Hoshiarpur at a high speed, collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Bagpur Sator bus stand. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the bus rammed into the truck, leaving both vehicles mangled. Nearly a dozen bus passengers were injured and rushed to hospitals. The bus driver was admitted to a private hospital, while efforts to retrieve the trapped truck driver continued for hours before he was pulled out and shifted to hospital in a critical condition. A car following the bus also lost control and rammed into it from behind, leaving it damaged. Local residents assisted in shifting the injured to hospitals. Due to the accident, traffic on the Hoshiarpur–Dasuya road remained blocked for over two-and-a-half hours. Jalandhar, September 28 A girl, learning to drive a car, rammed her vehicle into a cycle-borne newspaper vendor at the Shastri Market area this morning, damaging a vehicle and the gate of the residence of senior BJP leader and former minister Manoranjan Kalia. Unable to control her vehicle, the girl hit the leader’s private car, parked outside his home, and damaged a pillar at his house. The newspaper vendor has been grievously injured in the accident. The 18-year-old girl driving the vehicle is a resident of Central Town. The video footage captures a car reversing recklessly and crashing into a vendor’s bicycle, sending the rider airborne due to the force of the impact. Although the cyclist attempted to escape, the speed of the vehicle left him no time to react. The out-of-control car dragged the bicycle along and eventually collided with a pillar at Kalia’s residence, also damaging an iron gate which was torn off its hinges. This is the BJP leader’s second vehicle to be damaged this year. The Innova Crysta had been bought after the former minister’s previous Innova was damaged in the grenade attack outside his residence in April. Today’s incident also comes a week after the untimely death of SAD leader Mohinder Singh Kaypee’s son Richi Kaypee’s death after his Fortuner was hit in a multiple car crash and two months after the demise of centenarian marathon legend Fauja Singh, after he was hit by a vehicle. The newspaper vendor has suffered injuries in his head, eyes and arms among other injuries. He is currently under treatment at the Civil Hospital. While no formal charges have been pressed in the case, the frequency of such incidents has become a cause for concern. Kalia’s new Innova (PB08SS-0243), which got damaged today, was bought in May. Kalia said, “A crowded market is no place to learn a car. This should never have taken place in such an area. There are many open grounds for new drivers to practise in. A TRIBUNE PHOTO Hoshiarpur, September 28 Tension prevailed at Ghode Wala Chowk here this morning after a Delhi-Jammu tourist bus was stopped by a group of persons, alleging that a parcel containing cash had gone missing. According to information, Punit, alias Gandhi, a local resident, claimed that four parcels had been dispatched to him from Delhi by a trader. He alleged that each parcel contained ~2.5 lakh in new currency notes. While three parcels were delivered to him in Hoshiarpur, one parcel was missing. Gandhi accused the bus driver and conductor of having stolen it. He claimed that this was the legal money and notes were from the RBI and packets sent to him by a trader as he deals in cash which is used for garlands, etc at weddings and other celebrations. He called some of his accomplice who came there and stopped the bus. As the group did not allow the bus to proceed, passengers called the police. The bus was later taken to the Model Town police station for inquiry. The bus driver, however, maintained that he had been told in Delhi that the parcels contained visiting cards and he had been asked to collect ~1,600 as charges. He feigned ignorance about the contents. He further alleged that one of Gandhi’s associates had earlier mentioned a much larger amount of money but his accomplice had asked him not to disclose this. Police officials said the possibility of the money being linked to hawala transactions could not be ruled out. The police stated, “Investigation is on to ascertain the facts and the source of the money. Prima facie, it appears that both parties are concealing information.” End blame game, Urban Estate residents’ dharna over civic issues on Oct 3 send relief to flood victims soon: Pargat Tribune News Service Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 28 Congress MLA Pargat Singh, secretary of the All-India Congress Committee and MLA, stated today that the government has lost public trust over the flood crisis. “People no longer believe in the government. That’s why the Centre announced that it will transfer Rs 1,600 crore flood relief directly to farmers’ accounts,” Singh said. He condemned the Union Minister’s remarks suggesting the Punjab Government need not worry about relief management, calling such statements misleading and divisive. “This crisis concerns not just the AAP government, but the dignity of all Punjab. When institutions lose trust, democracy itself weakens,” he added. Singh questioned the Centre’s move to bypass the state government for flood relief: “How can the Union government ignore the reality that losses aren’t limited to farmers — ordinary people have suffered too? Who will compensate their losses?” Taking direct aim at CM Bhagwant Mann, Singh asked: “Has Punjab’s reputation fallen so low under your rule that Delhi feels compelled to sidestep the state to send relief? Does bypassing the elected government strengthen democracy or undermine it?” Singh demanded both BJP and AAP government end the blame game and guarantee the instant release of relief to those affected.
