Addressing a public gathering in Tarn Taran town in support of Karanbir Singh Burj, the party candidate for the Tarn Taran by-election here today, Warring cautioned people against any emotional exploitation. He pointed out that now the people of Punjab have seen the rule and working of all the three governments --that of the Congress, the Akali-BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party. "You are in the best position to make the right choice," he told people, adding, "it is the Congress which takes along all sections of people and works for the peace, progress and prosperity of everyone." The PPCC president asserted that the days of the AAP government in Punjab were numbered as it was now on its last leg. Besides, he added, the party was in such a pitiable condition that it had to outsource its candidate from the Akali Dal, which has already been rejected by the people of Punjab. "You can well imagine the plight of the AAP that it did not have anyone from within the party to fight the byelection and had to import it from a party that has been rejected by the people long back," he pointed out. The PPCC president, while appealing to people to elect the Congress candidate Karanbir Singh Burj, promised that it will be the beginning of a new era for the progress and prosperity of Punjab. "Let us make a beginning from Tarn Taran now and take it forward across Punjab by 2027," he appealed to the people. Mayor calls for plan to remove waste from Jabbal Road dump Tribune News Service Amritsar, October 26 Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia on Saturday inspected the massive garbage dump that has accumulated along Jabbal Road over the past several days and directed officials to prepare a comprehensive proposal for its removal. The inspection was conducted along with Municipal Corporation Health Officer Dr Kiran Kumar and lasted for nearly an hour. The Municipal Corporation has estimated that around 70,000 metric tonnes of waste has piled up at the site after garbage dumping at the Bhagtanwala landfill was temporarily suspended. The mayor instructed officials to formulate a detailed plan for clearing the site and to initiate the tender process once funds are arranged. The waste will be disposed of through bio-remediation, like at Bhagtanwala dump. According to officials, dumping at the Jabbal Road site began nearly 12 days ago after the approach road to the Bhagtanwala landfill became unusable due to damage. With the landfill road now repaired, garbage disposal operations will shift back to Bhagtanwala starting Sunday, the mayor confirmed. "The Jabbal Road dump, where approximately 70,000 metric tonnes of waste has accumulated, will be scientifically treated and cleared through a new tender. A pro- posal is being prepared for this. The Bhagtanwala site will soon resume normal functioning now that the road to the landfill has been rebuilt," Mayor Bhatia said. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation has also identified several secondary points across the city where waste accumulation remains a concern. These include about 250 metric tonnes of garbage at Ranjit Avenue E-Block workshop, 150 metric tonnes at Verka, and 40 metric tonnes along Ram Tirath Road. Although garbage lifting operations have been carried out multiple times at these locations, irregular collection and operational lapses have led to repeated waste build-up.
