The incident, which occurred between 10:00 pm and 10:50 pm on Thursday, left the area shaken though no injuries were reported. According to the police, the assailants fired 13 rounds before fleeing the scene. Several bullets struck the main gate and outer walls of Daljeet Singh’s house, located on the outskirts of the village near Anandpur Academy. Police teams responding to the incident recovered empty .30 bore and .32 bore cartridges from the site. The absence of CCTV surveillance in the vicinity has complicated efforts to identify the perpetrators, though investigators are continuing both technical and field-based inquiries. Based on Daljeet’s complaint, the police have registered case on Friday. The FIR names nine residents of Lakhan Kalan as accused — Pavitar Singh, Simran Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Arwinder Singh, Monty, Karan, Ramasra Singh, Honey, and Deepu. They have been booked under the BNS, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. ASI Bhupinder Singh has been appointed as the investi- gating officer. Police officials stated that the investigation is proceeding from multiple angles, including possible personal or electoral rivalry. Kashmir Singh said the attack may be linked to electoral tensions, though the authorities emphasized that no official conclusion regarding motive had been drawn, and verification was ongoing. Expressing concern that these establishments are hurting religious sentiments and disturbing the sanctity of the area, members of the temple management committee, along with community representatives, submitted a memorandum to the SP Phagwara, , demanding the immediate closure of the shops. Temple committee president Bhajan Bhati, along with Councillor Jasdev Singh Prince, Babbu Sudhir, Raj Kumar Raju and KK Sharma, stated that the community had been objecting to the presence of the liquor vend in close proximity to the temple and the opening of a chicken shop on January 5 has intensified public anger. They said hundreds of devotees, including women, visit the temple daily and alleged that the activities around these shops were disrupting the peaceful environment and hurting religious sentiments. The committee members stressed that commercial activities such as liquor and meat shops near a place of worship were unacceptable to devotees and urged the authorities to relocate these. Nawanshahr, January 9 Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress general secretary in-charge for Punjab Bhupesh Baghel on Friday claimed that once the Congress government is formed in Punjab in 2027, it would make a special provision to restore the MGNREGA in the state. He said if the BJP government did not revive it till 2029, the Congress government that would be formed at the Centre with Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister would revive it. He was addressing a ‘Save MGNREGA’ rally at Balachaur in Nawanshahr. He reiterated that the Congress was committed to the welfare of the poor. He accused the BJP government at the Centre of only working for a select few friends like Adani and Ambani. Baghel alleged that the real intention of the BJP government was to scrap the scheme. “The new law replacing the Cong leader Bhupesh Baghel addresses a gathering. MGNREGA was just a façade to deceive the poor and the marginalised”, he said. The court remanded the accused officer to two days of vigilance custody. Officials said the remand would allow the Vigilance Bureau to examine evidence, question the accused and verify the allegations levelled in the complaint. A Vigilance spokesperson said the action was initiated following a complaint filed by a resident of village Issarwal, Jalandhar. The complainant alleged that after his parents were booked, the accused ASI demanded a bribe in return for extending help in the case and Phagwara,January 9 The Punjab State Scheduled Caste Commission has summoned District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) Jalandhar, Gurdarshan Singh Kundal, on January 14 after taking suo motu cognizance of a protest related to the long-standing dirty water drainage problem in village Nagar of the Phillaur constituency. The action follows media reports that highlighted administrative negligence and the growing public safety concerns in the village. According to a letter issued to the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, the commission’s Chairman, Jasveer Singh, exercised suo motu powers after learning that untreated waste water was flowing onto public roads instead of being channelled through drainage systems. Our Correspondent Dasuya, January 9 Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal on Friday visited village Galowal in Dasuya to review development works related to the Holy Bein and listen to the problems of local residents. Dasuya MLA Advocate Karmveer Singh Ghuman and Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain were also present. A meeting was held in which officials of various departments, administrative representatives and a large number of villagers participated. Detailed discussions were held on the development of basic infrastructure along the Holy Bein, road construction, drinking water supply, damage caused due to floods and soil erosion, and future development plans. Addressing a gathering, Seechewal said the demand for a road along the Holy Bein had been pending since long. Fulfilling this long-standing demand, the government has approved the construction of a nearly 7-km-long road from village Saidowal to Bhoosa Bridge along the holy Bein. The project will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore and is expected to benefit dozens of villages. He further said an important gate related to the Holy Bein, which had remained pending for a long time, has also been cleared. The tender process for the construction of this gate, to be built at a cost of around Rs 3.5 lakh, has been completed and work will begin shortly. On the issue of drinking water, Sant Seechewal said water tankers had been provided to villages facing acute shortage. Villages that are still left out will also be provided tankers soon to ensure no resident faces hardship.
