Chand Mera Dil Subhash K Jha Riding on the visibility he gained from Bads of Bollywood, Lakshya is stepping into a more introspective space with his upcoming film Chand Mera Dil. The film marks a turning point — less spectacle, more emotional depth. In this candid chat, he reflects on his journey. Chand Mera Dil releases on May 22, almost a month after your birthday. How did this birthday feel? This one felt different. There was a quiet confidence rather than celebration. It wasn’t about the day itself, but where I stand right now. With Chand Mera Dil releasing so close to it, it feels like the start of a new phase — almost a reset, but one I’ve worked towards. What are the USPs of the film? At its core, it’s an honest love story. It doesn’t try to be loud or over-stylised. Its strength lies in simplicity and emotional truth. The characters feel real, relationships are layered, and the storytelling is intimate. It’s grounded, yet still cinematic. Are you a romantic at heart? I think I am, just not in an obvious way. I’m not overly expressive, but I feel deeply. For me, romance lies in the details — consistency, showing up, the quiet moments. This film helped me understand that side of myself better. You’ve done action and now a romance. Which do you prefer? Both excite me, but differently. Action brings adrenaline and a physical high, while drama demands vul- nerability. Right now, I’m drawn to roles that explore emotional depth — stories that stay with the audience. How did Bads... impact your career? It gave me visibility and credibility. People began to see me beyond potential and recognise what I could deliver. The conversations changed — there was more trust and better opportunities,. You began with a Karan Johar production and now return to one. What is that like? Working with him is a masterclass. He has a sharp instinct for storytelling and performance. What stands out is how invested he is — not just in the film, but in you. He pushes you while making you feel secure enough to take risks. Deol revealed how the scene evolved through spontaneous ideas, including his suggestion to add a layered twist using Chanda’s multilingual abilities. Released in 2009, Dev.D remains a bold, modern retelling of Devdas.
