The incident unfolded at Washington Hilton, where nearly 2,500 attendees had gathered, moments before the President’s address. According to officials, a man attempted to breach a security checkpoint near the ballroom and opened fire, triggering panic inside and outside the hall. Hours after the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed relief over the safety of the US leadership, stating that “violence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned”, while extend- ing his wishes for their continued safety and well-being. Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice-President JD Vance and several Cabinet members were escorted out under heavy security, with authorities confirming all continued on page 9 New Delhi, April 26 The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday petitioned the Rajya Sabha Chairman, seeking the disqualification of seven MPs who recently left the party and joined the BJP , alleging that their action amounted to “betrayal” of the people of Punjab, democracy and the Constitution. Addressing a press conference, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said the party had invoked provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, which dealt with anti-defection, and urged an expedited hearing in the matter. “After consulting constitutional experts, including Kapil Sibal, we have submitted a petition requesting that the membership of all seven MPs be terminated. I am confident that the Chairman will take an early and just decision,” Singh said. The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
