LUDHIANA | WEDNESDAY | 10 JUNE 2026 This is my farewell film Nora Fatehi represents India in Subhash K Jha H AI JAWANI TOH ISHQ HONA HAI is David Dhawan’s last film. David is saying adieu to filmmaking after Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. “Bass abb bahot ho gaya. I am 76. I’ve made 46 films. Most of them were successful. I hope my new film too will be liked. I am sure it will be. I’ve poured my heart and soul into it. I’ve always believed entertainment is the primary reason for cinema to exist,” says David. He’s often been asked to change his formula. But David never felt the need. “Why fiddle with the bonnet when your car is running smoothly? The David Dhawan formula has always worked. Why should I change it? My guru and mentor Manmohan Desai also had his style. When he tried to move away from it (in Aa Gale Lag Jaa), he was rejected.” After Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, David Dhawan says goodbye to filmmaking Where does David place Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai in his repertoire? “Are you asking if it is my favourite? Right now, yes. All my films are my favourites. Even the less successful ones like Yaarana and Mr & Mrs Khiladi. I’ve always put myself with the audiences in the movie theatre and made what they like.” About making films with his son, David says, “Varun is very talented and hardworking. If he wasn’t, I wouldn’t work with him. On the sets, we are totally professional. In fact, I am stricter with him than with other actors.” So, what does David want to do now? “Play with my grandchildren. Spend time with my wife, which I never did all these years while working round the clock. And yes, watch lots of movies. No, not my own.” The milestone moment Katy Perry, Justin Trudeau make first red carpet appearance together at Tribeca Festival Pop superstar Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made their first official red carpet appearance together at the Tribeca Festival. Perry emphasised that the project is dedicated to her longtime supporters. “I’m doing all of this for my fans because they are the ones that have helped me along for all these years, over 18 years, and it’s just such a fun thing to encapsulate,” Perry said.
