The police alleged that the accused was found in possession of a two-wheeler, which had been stolen from the parking area of a mall in Industrial Area, Phase I. The accused was arrested. Further investigation is underway. TNS YOUTH ARRESTED OVER FAKE NUMBER Chandigarh: Haryana resident Sumit was arrested near the Airport light point for using a fake number plate on his fourwheeler. A case under Section 341(2) of the BNS has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. The accused was arrested and later released on bail. A case under Sections 305 and 331 of the BNS has been registered at the Sector 36 police station. TNS CITY RESIDENT DUPED OF ~4.5L Chandigarh: Ashok Kumar Sharma, a resident of Dhanas, alleged that an unidentified person cheated him of Rs 4.5 lakh by impersonating one of his acquaintances. A case under Sections 318(4), 319(2), 336(3), 338, 340(2) and 61(2) of the BNS has been registered. Investigation into the case is underway. TNS Chandigarh, July 19 The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has initiated the process for the e-auction of 79 commercial properties to be allotted on a leasehold basis. Interested bidders can pay the earnest money deposit (EMD) online till July 23, following which the e-auction will be conducted from July 25 to August 4. According to a notice issued by the Board, the properties include shops and other commercial units located in Manimajra, Sector 40-A and Sector 61 (Kajheri). All properties will be allotted on a leasehold basis. Interested participants can register as per the guidelines available on the official website of CHB www.chbonline.in and http://www.chbonline.in, and on the Government eMarketplace (GeM) portal. The website also provides the sector, location, reserve price, EMD amount and auction conditions of each property. According to CHB officials, the online auction had been introduced to make the allotment process more transparent and competitive while enabling wider public participation through a fully digital system. The complaint alleged that the accused established physical relations with the victim several times after allegedly making a false promise of marriage. — TNS Panchkula, July 19 A 36-year-old woman, Sudha Devi, carrying her fourmonth-old child, was mauled by a pack of stray dogs in Rally village here on Sunday morning. When she was taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, she was advised to go to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, where she finally received medical treatment. Sudha, a domestic worker, was on her way from Rally village to Sector 12 for work when she was attacked by around eight to nine stray dogs. Eyewitnesses said the dogs first tried to attack the child, but Sudha shielded him. The dogs then bit her on the left leg. The panicked woman raised the alarm, following which passersby rushed to her aid and drove the dogs away. The Dassehra Ground, located in front of the Government Elementary School in the main market, has become a glaring symbol of the worsening situation during the rainy season. The area resembles a dumping ground, with heaps of garbage and filthy water spilling onto the roadside, making it difficult for pedestrians and vehicles to pass. Local residents and shopkeepers say they are fed up with the unhygienic conditions and the foul smell but have nowhere to turn for relief. I had to visit the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh, for further treatment.” Drive against illegal ice cream vendors Chandigarh, July 19 The Municipal Corporation (MC) on Sunday conducted an early morning enforcement drive against illegal ice cream vendors operating in Sector 20. During the operation, the Enforcement Branch impounded 53 rehris found violating prescribed norms and occupying public spaces without authorisation. The action was carried out to ensure the smooth movement of pedestrians and vehicles, maintain public order and curb unauthorised vending activities. To ensure transparency and accountability during the enforcement drive, the entire operation was recorded using body cameras by the staff. Rain is likely to continue over the coming days. According to the Meteorological Centre, the week is likely to begin with a generally partly cloudy sky, accompanied by thunderstorms and light rain. Temperatures are expected to range between a maximum of 35°C and a minimum of 25°C. From July 21 to 23, the forecast indicates a generally cloudy sky with thunderstorms and more substantial rainfall. During this period, temperatures are likely to dip, with the maximum temperature expected to fall to around 30°C on July 22, while minimum temperature may remain between 23°C and 24°C.
